Boonen has taken a great start, that's for sure.
I think most goals for March can be met, but it won't be easy |

Our Team
The Favourites
*** Daniele Callegarin (Team Type 1), Marco Marcato (Vacansoleil), Daniele Pietropolli (Omega Pharma).
** Fabio Felline (Katusha), Marco Frapporti (Colnago), Mikel Nieve (Astana).
* Oscar Gatto (Farnese Vini), Robert Gesink, Simone Ponzi (Liquigas).
The race
7km to go
Farnese Vini's Oscar Gatto is leading the race for more than 50 kilometres, but is about to get caught at the summit of the last hill, with only 7km to go. Callegarin, Pietropolli, Scognamiglio and Ascani are the ones that close the gap to him as the first ones.
Thomas Dekker and Robert Gesink are present in this group of 36 riders, but because of a low fitness, they are in the last part of the group. And as the group breaks in 2 smaller groups before the summit, they loose their chance for a good result.
Finish
Gatto and Pietropolli have a small margin to the chasing group of 22 in the descend towards the finish. They get caught 2km before the finish, when last years winner Daniele Callegarin sprints passes them. But Callegarin mistimed his sprint and stalls, and gets passed by 1 rider: Emanuele Vona from Androni Gioccatolli. Probably nobody expected him to win, so it's a huge surprise. Callegarin takes the 2nd place, followed by Pietropolli. Dekker is the best from our team, in 27th place.

Word from the DS
Considering it's the first race of the season for Gesink, you can't expect too much from him. But finishin in 36th ain't good. Oh well, with a weak team, we had no expectations here. Off to the Strade Bianche!

The race
56km to go
The BOTD consisting of 7 riders have started another Strade Bianche, with the peloton 3 minutes behind them. Most known riders in it are Leonardo Pinizotto (Alitalia) and Italian champion Danilo Napolitano (D'Angelo).
52km to go
With 52km to go, Robert Gesink wants to test himself and he attacks out of the peloton at one of the steep climbs (15%!). The other favourites are confused"what to do? Joaquím Rodríguez and Fränk Schleck hesitate a bit, and decide not to counter.
12km to go
Gesink closes the gap to the 7 leaders and drops them at one of the steep climbs. But the peloton doesn't let him ride away, so he gets caught. As he knows that he won't stand a chance in the sprint, our Dutch leader attacks again, with 12km to go at the last Strade Bianche.
Finish
2 riders can counter the attack of Gesink: Daniel Oss (Liquigas) and Luca Ascani (D'Angelo). At the next hill, Ascani attacks and Gesink can't follow. The D'Angelo riders must have the day of his life, as he manages to stay out of reach of the chasing group. He enters the historical centre of Siena, and also at the last steep climb, he stays in the lead. It's the biggest win of his career!
Daniele Pietropolli (Omega Pharma) takes the 2nd place, beating Carlo Scognamiglio (Colnago) in the sprint. Gesink finishes in 15th place.

Well, at least Gesink tried to make something out of it. But his fitness is increasing towards the Tirreno.
