You know what's crazy, I just reread the start of this story, (not all, of course ), but this is your first story If every story you'll make is going to be like this, damn! |

I suspect consider how long it's been going, it may be his only story, unless of course the game breaks because of how far through he gets

Probably you are right. When the moment comes that I decide to stop this story, then I probably won't start a new one shortly after. I'm the kind of guy that wants to to it right, not to start and stop stories all the time (no offence to anyone, just how I think about it).
But for now, let's continue with a report of the 3rd and 4th stage of the Tour de Méditerranéen!

Stage 3
The Tour de Méditerranéen continues with the 3rd stage from Carnoux-en-Provence to La Farlede, over 127 kilometres. And just as yesterday, the stage ends in a mass sprint. Today, the Acqua et Sapone boys do it all right and Mirco Lorenzetto easily takes his 3rd win of the season. Igor Abakoumov (Landbouwkrediet) surprises with the 2nd place, folloed by yesterday's winner Marco Frapporti. Matti Breschel had some problems in finding a good wheel, and has to settle with the 8th place.

Stage 4
The most difficult part of the hilly 4th stage from La Londe Les Maures to Biot is the last kilometres. That goes uphill with an average gradient of about 8%.
No wonder that Matti Breschel has set his eyes on winning this stage. The team works very hard for him. irst, together with Landbouwkrediet in catching the BOTD, and in the last few kilometres, to form a sprint train. Niki Terpstra and last lead out man Lieuwe Westra do a terrific job, so Breschel can launch his sprint 800 metres before the finish. And with a great jump, nobody can follow him! It's already the 3rd win of the season for our Dane! The 2nd place goes to Steve Houanard (probably, EPO, just as irl ) and the 3rd to Samuel Dumoulin. Johan Coenen stays in the GC-lead.

Word from the DS
So after 3 stages with mediocre results, Breschel did what he is very good at: winning a tough uphill sprint! Tomorrow is a different day, with the finish at the Mont Faron. Although in this form, Matti can hang on with the best climbers for a long time!

Stage 5
The Tour de Méditerranéen ends with a finish at the summit of the Mont Faron, the famous climb (5.3km at 8.5%) outside of Toulon. When the riders arrive at the foot of the climb, 2 members of the former BOTD still remain in the lead: Clément Lhotellerie (Cofidis) and Mathieu Sprick (Europcar). The 2 have a lead of about 2 minutes, with Petronas and Movistar doing the pace in the peloton. It lasts untill 2km before the finish, for a rider to attack out of the peloton. French climber Thibaut Pinot launches a fierce attack, that nobody can follow. He starts to close the gap to leader Lhotellerie and passes him with only 200m to go. Matti Breschel surprises by finishing in 3rd place, but it won't be enough to win the GC, as Pinot takes the double today. Also a great result for Martijn Maaskant with the 6th place.

Word from the DS
With 1 stage win and the 3rd place in the GC, as well as the points jersey, we canbe very happy about the first race this year in Europe for the team. With only the Tour de Haut Var to go, the team already looks ready for the cobbled season!

We stay in the South of France in the region Var for the Tour de Haut-Var. It's a hilly 2-stage race, with Joop Zoetemelk as the record winner with 3 wins. Last year, Cyril Gautier started a great season here, with the GC-win.

Our team
The favourites
*** Matti Breschel, Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis), Simon Gerrans (Dexia).
** Paul Martens (Rabobank), Gianni Meersman (FDJ), Thibaut Pinot (AG2R).
* Guillaume Blot (FDJ), Ryder Hesjedal (Saxo Bank), Jérome Pineau (Saur).
Our goal
A stage win.
Stage 1
The first stage from La Croix Valmer to Giraud is the easy one of the 2. The route is mostly flat, but the last 2 kilometres are ascending with an average gradient of 5%.
We work hard to make it a mass sprint, but make a huge mistake there. The lead out men are out of energy too early, so Matti Breschel is in the lead way too soon. He tries to keep his speed untill the finish, but he stalls with 300m to go and gets passed by winner Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis) and Gianni Meersman (FDJ).
Results
1 | Samuel Dumoulin | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | 3h49'29 | 2 | Gianni Meersman | FDJ | s.t. | 3 | Matti Breschel | Petronas - Monster Energy | s.t. | 4 | Guillaume Blot | FDJ | s.t. | 5 | Anthony Roux | FDJ | s.t. | 9 | Thibaut Pinot | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | 10 | Paul Martens | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. |
Stage 2
The 2nd stage around Draguignan is the most difficult one. It contains more than 3000 height metres, thus considered as a hilly stage.
Matti Breschel wins the first 2 Intermediate sprint, and collects 12 bonus seconds, meaning he is tied with Dumoulin in the GC. In the last 30 kilometres, there are many, many attacks by the puncheurs and some sprinters (also GC-leader Dumoulin). But in the end, the stage ends in a mass sprint.
A bad daily form is the reason Breschel can't compete for the win and has to settle with the 11th place. Dumoulin wins the stage, and the GC, followed by Meersman and Federico Canuti (Liquigas).

Word from the DS
A good first, and a bad second stage. No stage wins, but still the 3rd place in the GC. Satisfied with it.
