I don't see how anyone was disagreeing with Ruben
Anyway, I have to make one correction to my previous post: ember was right about Contador's descent
Here are the times for each separate section
0-18kms (flat)
Contador 20:02
Wiggins 20:20
Armstrong 20:29
Cancellara 20:39
Klöden 20:39
18-25kms (flat)
Cancellara 8:01
Wiggins 8:12
Klöden 8:14
Armstrong 8:22
Contador 8:23
25-28.5kms (climb)
Contador 8:25
Klöden 8:43
Wiggins 8:48
Cancellara 8:56
Armstrong 9:11
28.5-37kms (downhill)
Cancellara 7:46
Contador 8:17
Wiggins 8:29
Armstrong 8:31
Klöden 8:24
37-40.5kms (flat)
Cancellara 3:12
Contador 3:24
Wiggins 3:24
Klöden 3:24
Armstrong 3:27
As you can see, Contador started too fast, won a lot of time in 18kms, paid for the effort by losing most of it in only 6kms, then climbed faster than the others as expected, beat the GC contenders on the descent and everyone was pretty tied on the descent with the exception of Cancellara.

Watched the non-commentated race on Universal Sports website. You could hear Wiggins swearing when his bike went belly up.

Wasnt there also the wind conditions in the final part of the course that benefited the likes of Cancellara, Ignatiev, Millar, and Larsson (earlier starters) but disadvantaged the GC men?

you can't compare contador's tour tt victory with this one. that was during a 3 week race where cancellara is obviously going to suffer more because he isn't as strong in the mountains.
if contador had riden today he would have gotten no-where near cancellara. |

yes ..yes and yes. I was fool enough to start this debate..what I mean was..Contador TdF stage win wont change a fact that Cancellara is almost irrestrainable in TT. |

I'm not so convinced of that. A Contador in top shape would have been surely 2nd... |

Nice to see names like Zirbel, Moerenhout and Konovalovas doing well.
I'm very tired of the Norwegian media's hyping of Boasson Hagen now. Before the TT, former riders said "less than top 5 would almost be disappointing" and other stupid stuff about a medal being realistic. He was hoping for around top 10 himself, and then possibly to kick on towards a podium in a year or two. He is really just a competitive and shy guy, not really setting a big target for himself.
After the race, he said his legs were just gone today. He saved himself a little for the RR on the last one and a half laps, but he was already around 3 minutes behind by then. This should hopefully calm Norwegians down a little bit. Sure, he is the best talent we've ever had, but he's not capable of beating two out of Cancellara, Wiggins, Larsson and Martin to get a medal. In 5 years, who knows, but not this year. Too many actually thought so before today...
I look forward to seeing him in a race like Tirreno-Adriatico next season. That should show us where he stands in harder stage races than Poland/ENECO tours. Also, his improved diet and stamina should make for a better classics season. In this year's MSR, he was dropped on the Cipressa, I think (just before Armstrong), probably because 300 kms were too much. Also, he struggled with stomach problems in long races, these are apparently all gone now (see: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....ost_231353)
I like him, and hope he can win even bigger things next year, but some people really have no sense of proportions.

2nd? no, last. He don't have the punch to beat the other favorite.

You guys are all underestimating Contador. He has been a time trial specialist his whole life
He already beat Evans and Klöden when he was 22 years old...
Against every other known TT specialist he has a head-to-head advantage, except for Cancellara..
But keep living in your fantasy world where Contador cannot TT outside a Tour. |

Sarah Düster was supposed to ride her first WC this year, but the german cycling federation forgot to subscribe her so she won't be able to ride this year. Kinda sad for her.

The tempo has slowed, most of the favourites are back together again. |

Damn it, Johansson has problems with the bike AGAIN!
Looks like she'll make it back to the pack again, though.
