I agree that Breschel should maybe be there instead of O'Grady, but based on last year's performance, Arvesen deserves his spot. The way he pulled the peloton in the Alpe d'Huez stage was amazing!

Same with O'Grady. He didn't show anything last year either.
Experienced? Sure. But there's several other experienced riders on the team.
Indeed, like I said if O'Grady was in the team they don't need Arvesen and vice versa, because they are exactly the same. Riis said he chose Arvesen because he could captain the team on the road. O'Grady can do that! Honestly though I don't know why people said it was between Matti and Kurt. Arvesen has deserved his Tour Spot, not over Matti, but over Stuey. If Riis wants to elect a rider because he has more experience but wouldn't be able to do aswell as Matti, then go ahead, make a terrible decision. Geez!

I don't think O'Grady and Arvesen are that similar. Yes, both can captain theteam on the road and are experienced, but Arvesen is better at climbs and in the TTs, and O'Grady is better in the sprints.

If you want to detail it like that, then no, they're not that similar, I'm not even gonna argue with you about that (eventhough I don't completely agree). But from Riis' criterias on how he selected the Tour team, they're the same.

Because Kim Andersen said before the Tour de Suisse that 8 riders were certain and the 9th would be either Arvesen or Breschel, depending on their performances in the Tour de Suisse

Yeah I am familiar with that one, thank you . What I meant was that it was never between Kurt-Asle and Matti, because in every other team when you win three stages like the ones Matti did the last month you would have secured a tour spot. But not here, hence was Kurt-Asle somehow in the Tour team no matter what.
Oh, and I believe it was Matti himself saying it was between him and Arvesen.

I belive that final was decided as squad for TTT..O'Grady is great there...and Arvesen is absolute "Letherman" man for any job.

I can't really see how Breschel offers anything new to the team in this tour. They want the yellow jersey in Monaco, and then defend it. The TTT is their next goal, before moving on to more mountainous terrain. In the second and third week, they might join a breakaway or two, and apart from that hopefully defend Fränk or Andy's jersey.
Arvesen climbs better than Breschel when on form. Arvesen is currently in very good shape, right on course for the tour. He's a better teammate on any terrain and he captains the team well. Arvesen is in the top-end of the field when in breakaways as well, I don't think Breschel is a better breakaway rider than him. He sprints a little better, but that's it.
O'Grady is about the same level as Breschel when on hilly terrain, as well as in sprints and breakaways. His better TTT skills and inevitable experience makes him a better choice, for me, than Breschel.
He is a great talent, but as I said, I think the other nine cover everything the team needs in this Tour. |

You think you can fight them with logic and coherent arguments?

It's almost impossible to make A_Schleck and Mike happy..(Go Matti!)
As my light cycling knowledge remember.., team was decided when they trained for TTT |

They have no chance in the TTT anyway.
Unless they drop the Schlecks somewhere along the way.

I'll give it a go. Fighting bad logic is similar to fighting doping. I haven't lost faith in either cause yet |

I think the one thats most surprised by this is Arvesen, as he said after Mattis victory in TDS that he should go to the tour when in his current form
