I think the race was perfect for him pre-cancer, when he was a very Bettini like rider. Now that he has lost the ability on the hills that won him LFW and the worlds I see no way he could. |

I have to say that High Road/Columbia is a much stronger team than I had previously given them credit for, to protect Cavendish and bring him to the line in a race with that profile. |

he wasn't the sprinter with the most stage wins, or the most consistent, or even the fastest at the Giro

so far he's been competitive at every race he's entered this year, having a 31% rate of wins in sprints stages

He's got 10+ (maybe less but it's still early season) already this year
he's got 5 wins already this year

well i seem to remember them winning 2 each. seeing as he was only 21 and it was his first GT
well I seem to remember him winning less than Bennati. seeing as he was only 23 and it was his first Giro

and if he races for another 10 years at that ratio then he'll easily get more wins then the 189(or whatever it is)

I'm glad you did this, because I was reading some of Ringo's posts from the last few days my phone and the age thing was bugging me terribly (but not enough for me to painfully tap out on an alphanumeric keypad). I still can't believe that the error on the UCI website last year is still with us, Cav was born in '85, not '86.
Yes he has done very well for a young rider, but it would be foolish to think he will be inducted into the pantheon of cycling greats on a fairly tame MSR victory (obviously the sprint was impressive) and a few GT sprints alone. That's not to say he won't do it, because he obviously has a long time to go in his career, and he is a very talented rider. I just think its time to look at this victory with a sense of objectivity fellow Brits! And I don't just mean fans, anyone who's visited the cycling weekly website should know what I'm talking about.
just to correct isso he has 6 wins already this year

All the bashing of Sporza commentators on the last page aside, they are better then any other live cycling commentators...
They actually recognize riders, and know a lot about cycling, something that can't be said for most others |

Nobody has said they were bad, people has just thought it was funny how he reacted during the sprint.

Thanks, Waghlon. I'm just following your steps. And I think I deserve it, for the merit of a life dedicated to perversion. |

I didn't think Cavendish could have won it this year but more fool me. Don't know if it's been talked about (if it has sorry) but it seems Zabel's mentorship paid off. |

didn't watch the race, seems like the "high" pace let Cav win his first MSR. Good for him . This was really the sprinters' classics this year
and Haussler is really becoming fantastic B)

I was waching that funny commentator clip again..and then noticed what was happening with Hushovd..he was close at the barrier..and some idiot there was trying to take nice photo..he has reached he's hand out..
Haussler flying pass him..Hushovd is trying to follow..and then he should dodge under that hand (took head down for a moment).
Ofcorse I dont want to take anything away from Haussler and Cav. ..this guys was miles faster then others. But if this had hapened to Boonen or Italian sprinter..then good help us all..
Not a word from Hushovd..he knows that ..he wasnt able to follow ..but still..respect
