Haha, true, with the amount of bones you break each season it's a miracle you can still find time to ride your bike!

First race of the season for me is going to be on the 17th. It is a Pro 1/2/3 Criterium. They run every sunday of this month and I saw the results for the first one.
Some of the riders are quite well known: Daniel Holloway, Jackson Stewart, Dave McCook, also former Masters world Champions and some younger guys like Charlie Avis racing in Trek Livestrong Kit and an entire team of cat2-3 juniors.
Should be fun

oooo, we have an Italian amongst us now! Makes things a bit more interesting eh?
My aim for the season is just to crack in some serious training, serious racing, and if i get any results from that, then cool, but if not, oh well. Next year is my first "pro" year - as in, I'm racing and training full time, so this year is prep for that. If I can't hack some 20 hour weeks this year, I might as well give it up!

My first year as a Cat 2, will be on an elite team. Hope to help get some GC victories around the states and maybe get some free rain to get some good results! |

My goal this year:
Race as much as possible. Doesn't seem like much, but with a crazy busy spring ahead its going to be tough. |

what is cat 2,3,4 .....?
in germany you only have got kt (pro) a,b,c (you start there after u19)
in my first u19 year 2010 i want to finish the races,
take a top 5 at the lightweight uphill mountain time trail
and a win in a local mountain time trail
all in all i want to train more than 10.000 km (6200 miles) |

The Elite Road Categories here in the US (not sure about other countries) are 5 (for those just starting out) 4 (the fast 5's or the sandbagging 3's) 3, 2(the guys who can race with the pro's but not necessarily contest the win) and 1/pro (the guys at or near the top)
Sometimes, depending on the race, certain categories mix. Usually the Pros 1's and 2's (sometimes 3's) do the same race, Except in national level races like Tour of California or Gil, or Utah etc.
Additionally there are Junior Categories (u19) 10-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18 are the categories used at Junior Nationals. 17-18 is the category I raced (and Shifty) at Nationals and the minimum elite category you need to have in order to race nationals from 15-18 is 3. in order to race u23 nationals you must be at least a Category 2. I don't think you can race u23 nats if you are Pro-Continental or higher.
Additionally 2.0 there are a plethora of masters categories for old fogies.

i think in germany it´s easier:
you usually start in u15 and go through u17 and u19 and after the u19 you get a pro (kt-class) or start in the c-class.
winning a race or make many top tens you go into class b and from there into class a if you get enough top ten results.
if you are in a or b and do not get many top tens in the next year you are placed back in the next bad categorie
i hope i get a new much lighter bike this spring (my one is about 8,5 kg) so i am faster in mountain time trails ( the only thing i´m good in )

i don´t know yet because the first races are more than 3 hours by car and start very early and cannot drive there because i´m too young...

I raced a Pro/1/2/3 crit today, about 1.25 hours long.Highlight of the race was jumping into an attack at the last minute with several former Masters world champs, Daniel Holloway from Bissell and Trek Livestrong rider Charlie Avis. Either that or fighting for Holloways wheel with Avis and winning. Then I got pushed into a barrier by a lapped rider and dropped . I rode an hour on the roller this week!

1 meter snow is not bad...here snow is 10-20 cm high and because of the salt there is only frozen mud on the streets - so you cannot make something like skiing but also you cannot go ride your bike outside
