92. edition
Stage 18
Sulmona - Benevento
..after last mountain stage ..Basso seems to have seal the deal..but there is still lot to fight for ..one mountain stage and 16km. TT to ride..there is still open who will be 2nd. who is 3rd. Liquigas spronsors goals was to take Giro win and Giro points competition win..After Bennati crash..Basso has actualy chache to take this one also away from Valverde..
Rodriquez in breakaway..That is clear now..Caisse had Giro strongest team..but they havent used they potential. Looks like they are doing it again like every GT..they give to much for the leader ..and then Velverde as always isnt fresh enough in third week..
..Rodriquez had great strong ride today..but peloton is coming 12km. to go..and look who is doing this ..own team.
Last corner..before uphill sprint..no crashes please..we have lost already to much riders..Di Luca seems to be in perfect position..he is hunting second stage win..
..and here they come..Di Luca is leading..Scarponi seems to be biggest rival..Ivanov behind..Contador at the right side..
Scarponi taking over..Contador is closing that gap...
..but Di Luca had something extra..he takes second stage win..and Killer can show us again the same celebration ritual..
Contador managed to beat Scarponi before the line..
Basso still have theoretical chanche to take points jersey..he need aim to last mountain stage and TT

Stage 19
Avellino - Vesuvio
Last mountain stage..Contador is hugh favorite today..also we can expect Menchov and Basso strong ride..This 3 have been best climbers in last week..
Strong Breakaway group..including Paulinho, Ardila, Perez , Codol etc.
Yesterday was atacking Rodriquez..today Caisse sending Perreiro..before final climb..
Favorites..Di Luca and Schleck atacking first...
Martinez and Garzelli follows..this is just worm up..
Basso is testing a legs..he go's with Basso and Karpets..short one..back in group..
...breakaway group is out there..chasers group Schleck, Di Luca and Simoni follows..
..at the front..Codol launching atack..against fellow escapies..
Euskaltel raider Perez is starting to chase..
action in the main group..Basso and Contador has cought Schleck group..
Di Luca atacking again..only Contador and Basso can respond do that..Schleck and Simoni looks wasted. This one but Schleck GC podium place in danger..
Contador kick againg..Basso trying to ride this gap down..
..I was already wondering..where he is..Menchov is trying to join with strong duo
Moncoutie leading a third group..Valverde, Cunego, Di Luca, Schleck
..and Contador atacking again..Menchov is trying to counter..Basso already knows that counter to Contador will just kill your legs..he continous with stedy pace..
Contador fly pass..Paulinho..who has no legs left to help a team mate..Menchov and Basso are closing he's lead down..
...this is it for Menchov..Basso passes him..seems like Contador is clear now..only Codol ,Perez and Ardila left at the front..
Last km..has started..Codol leading..Basso with Menchov has just passed totaly cracked Perez..
..Codol will hold?
Close one..but Codol managed to keep the lead ..it's time to party for Acqua & Sapone - Caffé Mokambo team.
Basso getting closer and closer to take points jersey..
Same time when Basso success continues I am worried about other guys..Pellizotti is now close to drop out of top 30 (low morale)..but he has helped Basso all Giro.
Nibali loosing chanches to get into GC top 10...but had so far great tour good GC place and one stage win.

Stage 20
Napoli - Anagni
Last stage before final TT..uphill sprint..
Di Luca atacking first..has almost always. Killer has 3 stage wins already..2 uphill sprints and surprise hily long TT..
Then Martinez, Voecler..and Liquigas giving depressed man Pellizotti oportunity to go...
..and Nibali..same story..Giro is almost over..let's have a fun..
Pellizotti getting away..solo 12km.
Chasers group..Voecler, Nibali, Ballan , Karpets, Casar, Devolder, Weening, Siotsou
Into last km. ..now uphill.Pellizotti butting all out..chaser group is inside last km. and main group also there..
They are closing..Nibali looks good..but Rebellin is fastest man on that hill..
..and Rebellin passes Pellizotti just before the line..This was so close to get first stage win for Franco..Great day for Liquigas 3 riders inside stage top 10.
Basso still closing points competition gap down between Valverde 14 points left..but not enough ..just TT left..

Thank you..it is pure pleasure with top form (98) Basso..TdF wil be much harder when I have Kreuziger and dont know yet who will be the other Pellizotti or Nibali.
Do you use the "dot" button on the mountains? And also, how long has he been at top fitness? |

..Thank good Cyanide changed dot command with new game..earlyer it was pure cheating.
Yes I use it if I need to ride gap down...and when I need to go thru ..closer to the peak of peloton (specialy in downhill sections). When I am sprinter lead out man..
Giro was Basso season main goal..he started a Giro ..he had shape 87..at the third week 98 (after first week he had 20 sec. advantage..middle of the third 5min. perfect shape timing). If you looks other raiders..Valverde and Cunego started real well..based on spring classics..but they looked tyred after second week..and guys like Menchov and Contador was looking better and better every day
Second top form should be aimed for Vuelta..he should be out of shape when other favorites will fight in TdF.
Dont know about fatigue..
Pellizotti and Bennati is already tyred..like season is over already..Basso has something left

92. edition
Stage 21
ITT Roma
Final TT..Basso will go flat out..still slim oportunity to grab also point jersey..and why not enjoy top form.
Boom 19 (+1'14)
Ignatiev 13. (+1'06)
Giro breakaway king Devolder 12. (+1'05)
Pate 23. (+1'25)
Giro invisible man Millar 10 (+1'00)
Kiriyenka 18. (+1'14)
Larsson..best man today..he wins final TT
Zabriskie 3. (+32 sec.)
Sanchez 20 (+1'14)
Best Fränk helper Voigt 9. (+50 sec.)
First week butterlfy Popo 7. (+49 sec.)
Great tour..he is was clearly nr. 2 in Liquigas 6. (+48 sec.)
..Big guy doesnt managed to keep up after second week 5. (+42 sec.)
Pereiro didnt used he' s potential in Giro..man for TdF? 11. (+1'00)
Gibo was starting tour like possible top 6 raider..ended inside top 10..still I was happy to race with him..there is rumors around him that Serramenti wont extend he's contract..I am happy to have him..to be road captain after Noe possible retirement after this season.24. (+1'25.)
He crashed outside top 10..in the first week..Came back..and was even more focused ..atacked almost on every mountain and was taking 3 stage wins..great raider..14. (+1'06)
Cunego..still Lampre wonder boy is far away to take Giro win after 2004..1,5 half week he was top 3 raider and Giro win candidate..after that down-fall 15. (+1'07)
Fränk..great Giro..a little unfear that he is out of the podium..main reason..he was to much alone and wasting energy. Contador third week amazing mountain stages was pushing him out of the podium..great Giro 25 (+1'26)
One of two third week "comet"...4th. (+40 sec)
Contador..amazing third week..with helped him to podium..today he pushed Valverde to third place. Main question is..what next..next GT? 8. (+50 sec.)
He came here..to take Giro overall win..at the end he is lucky to survive in podium..he lost GC second place today..and he lost point jersey today. 16. (+1'10)
and here he comes..2009 Giro belonged to Basso..most stabile raider over 3 weeks..best climber...2nd. (+17 sec.)..and he takes even point jersey at Valverde with 5 points..

Your mountain ability is awesome, I stand in awe
Brilliant Man!!!
I don't even try the dot, I suck with it.... |

Ivan Basso - perfect Giro...ofcorse this was he's main goal and he would be very dissapointed if he had failed. Stability over 3 weeks..great tactic..never in panic...control. Also another sponsors goal point jersey...he get this after last stage..this was bonus..I did not planned this.
Daniele Bennati - Sponsors was expecting..there is our Giro point jersey winner..but they probably didnt look Giro 2009 profile. I was worried before Giro..Bennati didnt had good spring..and when Giro started he was just started to get into decent form. Then 3 stage wins (sprinters best)..and managed even hold points jersey few days. He crashed out of tour...ofcorse bad news..but also best timing (at the same day most of sprinters didint get inside time limit..and there was not anymore profiles for sprinters).
Vincenzo Nibali - Great job young man...second in under 25 competition (after Contador)...and close to be inside top 10. One stage win..and Liquigas rider nr.2. (beat Pellizotti with "mile". It's now up to him..Tdf or not..for me good to go.
Andrea Noe - Last Giro for our veteran and road captain. He was "iron man"..always ready to help..to go up front and pull hard flat-uphill doesnt matter..get water bottles. Protect the leader. Amazing team mate..and still be front Zaugg and Szmydt in final GC.
Daniel Oss - He was first surprise choise for Giro squad...and he also finished it. He was Bennati personal bodyguard..and flat stages helped to control the peloton...and I should count how many litres he was carryed a water.
Franco Pellizotti - Hugh dissapoitment..but this was part of my fault. He's first mission was protect the Basso has long has possible..and he was getting more and more depressed. I am still looking opportunity to give him anothe chanche to race ..where isnt Basso ..They have been always in same race..My hope TdF..but that wont be easy..there will be 100% Kreuziger and maybe Nibali.
Sylvester Szmyd - Biggest dissapoitment in our team..I was thinking to give him chanche to be climber jersey contender..after first breakaway day he didint like that goal anymore. Later he get depressed and didnt keep up even in easy hilly stages. Was feling like he didnt like to be in Giro.
Brian Vandborg - In good team there is not just stars..also we need good team mates to be succesful. He was biggest surprise in Liquigas squad to get Giro ticket..was hugh help in flat stages. Give everyhing in TTT (wich was disaster anyway). Later crashed out of the race..he isnt happy about Giro ..but I was always thinking: good pick for Giro squad.
Oliver Zaugg - Same story has Noe..good team mate. When we need guy to go uphill and fast this was Zaugg...and he has amazing stamina..to do this several climbs and every day we needed. |
