Nicholas certainly improved on the last two stages, which resulted in a Great third place on stage five |

@sutty68
One of the few podium finishes he can't complain about.

With my rediscovered legs I was feeling good ahead of the 25km long time trial around Bilbao to finish this year’s Tour around the Basque Country.
By the time I started as 52th ranked it were Taylor Phinney and Tony Martin who had clocked down the two fastest times. Excellent reference material.
It was straight away on the first climb that the German Dominic Nerz showed up in my vision ahead of me on the road. The talented German clearly not having one of his better days. Or maybe I was having a great day? The 2 seconds I had been faster than Tony Martin at the first checkpoint certainly indicated that.
Maybe I focused too much on the German Nerz who I caught up to right at the second checkpoint where I clocked the exact same time as Martin, but right after that climb my cadence completely collapsed as I became unable to hammer on the high gear anymore.
Completely emptied out I crossed the finish 55 seconds slower than Tony Martin and 40 seconds behind Phinney. Certainly not a bad effort, but I was disappointment in my own overenthusiasm.
All these times didn’t matter though as by the end of the day Polish time trial champion Michael Kwiatkowski blew the field away. Diving a full 47 seconds below the time of der Panzerwagen as the Pole took the stage win. Falling just short of a GC win as Jurgen van den Broeck stayed 22 seconds ahead to take his first WT title home with him.

Hopefully Thomas can win it some day both ingame and in real life. One of the few riders I still follow back from that epic Barloworld team.

After the Vuelta al Pais Vasco, Gianluca had come to the decision to not send me to the one week long trainingcamp in preparation for the Giro. Instead having me rest before the Tour de Romandie, the big last test before the Giro would start.
In Switzerland I would be joined by Jungels, Dekker, Bongiorno and Roussey who all would go to the Giro. The five of us the best climbers of our Giro squad, as the other half would be focused around sprinter Danny van Poppel.
As you might remember someone at Tissot their headquarters had decided that they expect a GC win in Romandie. Meaning I would have to beat men like Porte and Froome, something that would be completely impossible unless someone was going to mess around with the time keeping. (Which was done Tissot, so I might just be in luck!)
Personally I would already be happy with a Top-10 finish in the strong field here, hell beating Aziz Kastell would already be hard enough. Aziz was one of the better climbers here who also would be competing in the Giro. The other two names being Richie Porte and Tanel Kangert.

Andy almost scored his first win at the Strade Bianche, but he got beaten by Moser.
Bongiorno his potential is here;

Stage 1 | Le Châble › Bruson, 7.45 km
The 7km long time trial up to Buson would right away give me a proper indication on where I was in comparison with the other climbers in the peloton.
Wearing number 131 I started as one of the last riders, just as Aziz who had started 3 minutes ahead of me.
By the time I started Richie Porte had already blown away the entire competition, Froome looking like the only one left who might be able to challenge the Australian his time.
At the one and only checkpoint after 4km I was chasing Aziz by 10 seconds and Porte already had gained 29 seconds on me.
I had hoped to stay within 20 seconds in the final 3km, but the longer the climb lasted the harder it got to keep a smooth cadence going. By the time I crossed the finish I had lost 24 seconds on Kastell and 5 seconds on my teammate Bob Jungels. I could already imagine questions being asked whether he shouldn’t be our leader at the Giro d’Italia instead of yours truly. Cherry on my miserable pie was that I had to see how Aziz could work his way onto the podium and wear the first white jersey of this Tour.

@fernando97
With only one mountain top finish, Nicholas should be able to make up some places.
@sutty68
Thanks!

Stage 2 | Saint-Maurice › Renens/Ouest lausannois, 176.4 km
The tale of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde sprung to mind as I observed Bayung Grimshaw during the first half of stage 2. The young Australian carrying out his orders dutifully and even trying to make some small talk with me. (I simply stayed silent and moved up the peloton to get away from the little man.) Maybe because we were in a WT race he knew he had no chance of winning anything, and he was just looking for an opportunity to ride for himself during de De Panne?
I didn’t get a lot of time to conceptualize on the case ‘Bayung Grimshaw’ as it was after the second climb of the day that Garmin leader Talansky hit the asphalt together with Greipel. Reason enough for Team Sky and Team Giant to up the pace, rapidly gaining on the early breakaway (where we had Thomas Dekker) while at the same time killing any GC ambitions Talansky had. (Something I did not mind at all, as the result meant one less rival for the GC win. 1 down, 30 left to go!)
Good fortune seemed to be on my side today. After we caught the break it were the Russian trains of Katusha and Tinkoff who took over the peloton and took us in high speed to the final sprint. Not without leaving behind casualties though as the final 20km would proof hectic, with various falls. Among the victims where Evans, Craddock, Busche and Froome! I did not know what the man at Tissot headquarters was up to, but he certainly was proving he’s worth his paycheck. (Another 4 down!) Sky did not wait for their leader in pink though, instead right away switching to the card Porte.
As if to conclude a pleasant day (for me at least, and our team as we did zero work today) the rainbow appeared in front of our eyes. Though this rainbow was 183 centimeters long, weighted 75 kilograms and went by the name of Peter Sagan. The Slovak adding another WT stage win to his palmares.

Froome fails
1st stage wasn't very good but in 2nd stage some riders fall of the GC game.
And Andy developed into a puncher,right?
And Bongiorno could be a very useful rider.

Gracias Alberto.
