Giro d'Italia Week 3

That snow. Woah.

Descent neutralised is the right move, but the climb up to Gavia and especially Stelvio is the bomb!

Looks like Cataldo doesn't like the sound of the descent being neutralized

Anyone know if Pozzovivo is back in the peloton yet?

Haven't seen no camera shots of him

Just spotted him at about 10th in the group. Break about to be caught.

Apparently him and Evans stopped at the top of the Gavia and took a hot drink and a bunch of warm clothes.

Seeing Tinkoff Saxo and thinking about SKY's performances so far (Cataldo really being the only rider who's doing great and showing something), do you guys think that SKY would be capable of performing similiar trains at the Giro like they do at the Tour? I remember Froome, Wiggins and all sorta struggle in tough conditions. With Froome and Wiggins being so thin and SKY having generally a weakness to tough racing conditions (In my opinion, e.g World Championships), I guess they'd struggle quite heavily. Of course, pure speculation.

@Strydz: Luckily, they arn't really that far away mate. Grin Don't wanna climb the Stelvio under those conditions though, although it's mighty impressive.

I'd love to know how they want to neutralize this now without messing up the race.

Geniez doing the smart thing.

The conditions are impressive, I'd just prefer it to take on the Stelvio with at least a little bit of sun.

How will the neutralization look like? Will they be stopped after the descent and let go with the times recorded on Stelvio summit?

nacho63
Riders stopping at the peak to put some clothing on before the descent.

Spoiler

I think more than the tough conditions part of it would be the way that Italian climbs are shaped. Most of them are much steeper and with much less consistent gradients. The Sky train works best when it is a consistent gradient below 10% because then you can ride at the same level for almost the entire climb. With many changes it is hard to keep the same consistency and with steeper gradients the domestiques may not be able to get up in the same way.

I am quite curious on that myself, do the riders off the front get a free pass or do they get held up somehow?

This descent isnt neutralized at all where is the directors car???

question is do they know it's neytralized. Can't imagine all the radios working well in these conditions and with such mountains.

Yes, very interesting, thanks. Will be interesting to see if SKY are willing and able to solve this problem. Neither Froome nor Porte were successful at Tirreno-Adriatico either.
In any case, Cataldo doing great. However, all riders have built themselves a little monument today. Smile

EDIT: Samu on skis
