Skoda-Tour of Luxemburg – Stage 4

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/Koersen/Stage4_zps9a16bfe9.jpg

Our mission today was the same as our mission yesterday; taking mountain points. So our man in the breakaway was the same as yesterday; Rodrigues.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/Skoda-Tour%20of%20Luxembourg%20Stage%204/PCM0674_zps11f30b40.jpg

But that was difficult. We were with a breakaway of ten riders and there were many riders interested in the mountain points. Rodrigues wasn’t the best climber of the group so he didn’t get a chance to get any points. But still, this stage was gonna be interesting. Five of the ten riders rode away, and Rodrigues wasn’t one of them. He tried everything, but he couldn’t close the gap. But the peloton stopped chasing the breakaway. So what? But Rodrigues was 41st in the GC, 4”10 behind Boom. And the gap to Rodrigues’ group was 6”30! Rodrigues started to give everything. He could take the leader jersey!

Meanwhile at the finish, it was Gène who beat Hushovd in the sprint. But that wasn’t interesting for us. Rodrigues finished tenth at 4”47 of Gène. But was it enough?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/Skoda-Tour%20of%20Luxembourg%20Stage%204/PCM0676_zps77b9a518.jpg

YES IT WAS ENOUGH! He took the leader jersey with “37 seconds lead! WOW! This is great for us! We didn’t expect that. And looking to the stage of tomorrow he should be able to hold the jersey. We’ll give everything here to win. This is a great opportunity. Rodrigues also kept the mountain jersey and he’s also leader in the youth classification. A great day for us. Can tomorrow become even better?

The Rider: Yes! I didn't see that coming as well, but it's a great result! Grin Yeah, we'll say it to them that they have to help him tomorrow.

duxili: We'll go for the win. It should be possible. Wink

sutty68: You're enjoying it as much as I do! Grin

The last stage of the Tour of Luxemburg. And the most important stage. For us. We had to defend the leader jersey from Rodrigues. We were all nervous, but we knew that if he would keep him, and that was possible in this stage, that he would win a 2.HC race, not a very small race.

And here is Rodrigues at the start. Concentrated. He had an important mission. All I can say about the stage is that it was kinda boring. Why? Because nothing happened. A breakaway went away and we gave them room. After the first mountain sprint we were sure that we’ve won the mountain jersey. The gap was eight points, while there were only five points to get during the stage. With twenty kilometres to go, the breakaway had a gap of five minutes so they were sure that they would go for the stage win. Of course we’ve looked to their backlog in time, because we don’t want to make the same mistake as Blanco did.

Oss was going for the stage win until Vantomme found that he always wanted to be an astronaut and he went with a lot of more speed over Oss to win the stage. But what happened behind them? I wanna know! Who wins this year’s Tour of Luxemburg?

It was Rodrigues! HE DID IT! HE WON THE TOUR OF LUXEMBURG! Great win! We’re so happy with that. We didn’t see that one coming before we started here. It’s a nice surprise and a good way to the national championships. Wow, man, great win! And also important; this is the first time we achieved a sponsor goal! Our goal was to finish in the top ten, and WE’VE WON!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/Skoda-Tour%20of%20Luxembourg%20Stage%205/PCM0682_zps9bcd2221.jpg

As I already said during the stage he also won the mountain jersey.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/Skoda-Tour%20of%20Luxembourg%20Stage%205/PCM0683_zps98a974fb.jpg

And for sure he also won the youth jersey. We really did great here. (Funny fact: We’ve won more general classifications than stages so far!)

Today’s winner

A bit late, but here is the calendar for June. We’ve already finished the Skoda-Tour of Luxembourg, but it’s still on the calendar. May wasn’t a bad month for us. Fifth place in Tour de Picardie, and we did well in the two stages in the Skoda-Tour of Luxembourg in May. We were struggling a bit in the Amgen Tour of California, but we hope we can do better there in the future.

Contract news

All six riders who didn’t have a contract at our team for next season came to ask me for a new contract. Too bad I had to refuse three riders a new contract, because we don’t see a future in them. These riders are the Americans Antonio Webb and Frank Hill and the Frenchman Sylvain Pellerin. They were sad about the news, but they accepted it and will give everything for our team till the end of the season. Of course we’ll help them to find a new team. But we have also some good news. The winner of the Tour of Luxembourg Alexandre Rodrigues extends his contract with three years! Although there was interesting from among others Movistar he decided to stay at our team the next three years. That’s great news! The Spaniard Luis Freire and the Brit Edward Byrne both extend their contracts as well. Soon there’s also contract news coming about our new riders for next season!

Cheng Siu To won the Hong Kong national championship ITT! This was great! Our first national champion jersey in already our first year as a team! Okay, it wasn't too difficult, but you have to start somewhere.

After we slept great for around a week, we got some other great news. Because this happened.

What?!?! Did To won again? But this is awesome! He got both time-trial and road champion jersey of Hong Kong! Great!

Of course you're thinking, just as I did; this will be everything. But I can say a big no to you. Why? Well, take a look at this.

Three national jerseys! I guess you didn't expect that. Well, apart from the Hong Kong ones I didn't expect that eighter. But it's great for us to have the Portuguese jersey in our team. This gives us a lot of publicity. At the start of the season everyone was looking at Watson, Burton and Rogers, but now Rodrigues is our man!

Too bad, our riders in the other countries weren't able to finish high, but we're happy with these results! Here's a list with all the new national champions except from the Australian and New-Zealand ones because they have already been there in January.
