Gotta ask, what do you think of this rule that won't allow Movistar get Valverdes points this and the following seasons points? Don't know if it's been brought up earlier, but I just saw it today on Procycling.
To me it seems idiotic. I don't like the man, but he has done his time and his team shouldn't be punished for it for two additional years. You might aswell ban him for 4 years.
With the world tour access being partly decided by "sporting value" and with world tour access being more or less a yes or no from sponsors it is despicable not counting Valverdes points for Movistar. In fact I would tend to think it would be overturned if tried at CAS. Seriously you give a guy a ban for doping - end of story. Further punishing riders once they return is just wrong. It doesn't exactly give you faith in the system nor help riders think they will receive fair treatment from the governing body.
There must be at least the basic legal right even for cyclist.

Why should they remove his name from the rankings? He's still the official winner at Willunga and the offical 2nd in GC, he just doesn't get the points.
You misunderstood me. Not remove his name from the rankings, but rather give the points for 2nd place to the one in 3rd place. I'm not sure if they done this now, but it just seems weird to me to simply remove the points for 2nd alltogether. |

Marcel Kittel is possibly involved in a doping sacandal.
Apparently there was/is a blood doping network in eastern Germany involving many succesfull athletes. Apparently there's a list of 28 athletes. They mentioned Kittel, Pechstein and Nils Schuhmann so far.
It seems that they used some sort of UV radiation to manipulate blood samples. Apparently police has recorded telephone calls where doctors discuss this method and say that it can't be detected by doping tests.
That would suck if true.

Unfortunately that would kind of explain how he came out of nowhere, and became one of the best young sprinters in the world, when before he was more of a timetrialist.
I really hope it isn't true, because I like him.

Oh, well I guess they do that, although you never know with the UCI. It's as easy as to have a look at the rankings, but honestly, I can't be bothered atm.

That's a major blow to 1t4i if true. It's pretty much their only asset for a TdF wildcard, and the guy who should get them most wins. And, of course, a super mega blow to German cycling's renaissance.

Damn. There goes one of the next big sprinting hopes
*Scratches off Kittel*
At least we still have you, Guardini, Viviani and Degenkolb.
Well, Degenkolb is so much more than a sprinter, but that's beside the point.

That's a big blow for cycling, but especially for German cycling and 1T4i.
I guess that sponsor due to arrive in March may be having second thoughts. |

Matthews is amazing on an uphill sprint, but for a normal bunch sprint he's nothing special.
Not to mention he's not really a sprinter, he can climb, TT, etc.

I would add Appollonio to the list personally
Update on the situation : https://www.cyclin...estigation
Doesn't look good so far, but we'll have to wait and see what happens next.

Atleast now I know why. |

I really hope he hasn't been that stupid, German cycling is starting to recover with Kittel, Degenkolb, NetApp getting a wildcard for the Giro.
More for the sake of cycling in Germany, please let it be a bad dream.

Kinda sounds like BS, although I really dont know much about that method, and I want him/them to be innocent.
Also the Thurnger team-mate could be Tony Martin, although they weren't on the same team in 08, I believe.

What, there'd doping in East-Germany ?
Also, funny (and appreciated) that nobody has come up with arguments such as "he'd never do blood doping, no point for him, he's a sprinter". |
