Go Garmin!!

That would not change a thing about the fact, that you wish him good Giro (which is in May) when Roturn is reporting P-N in March Grin
I'll be back

I also take the good luck wishes for the Giro. Wink Although it will take some more weeks before reaching it. Wink
But at first another Paris-Nice stage. Last flat of this version.
Somehow neither the results nor the events were exported. Hopefully this won`t happen again in another race.

Paris - Nice Stage 3
Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire - Nuits-Saint-Georges
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-3-3.jpg
It`s the last of the 3 flat stages of this Paris-Nice variant. So Farrar and Bennati are forced to improve if they want a win here like Boonen or Fernandez, which obviously also belong to the big favourites.
With the small hill in the end it could also end in some breakaway action.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-3-4.jpg
After lots of attacks including Danny Pate and many others a big group of 13 riders got free and created a advance of 4min. Within this group Garmin rider Peterson, who is probably the best climber here. But also well placed GC riders such as Vantomme and Cardoso are here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-3-5.jpg
With 110km to go and 9'30 for the group it`s mainly Astana doing the pace and the gap becomes a bit smaller again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-3-6.jpg
But it needed the big pace of Team Sky with 60km to go to make a higher pace in the peloton. Yesterday Bennati totally failed in the end, but nevertheless they are doing some great work for him again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-3-7.jpg
With 5km to go the breakaway is caught and the sprinters are waiting for the final kick.
Bennati is placed perfectly behind his working team mates with Fernandez being a bit behind, then Boonen and Farrar with the worst placement of these 4.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-3-8.jpg
It`s Bennati today. No one was able to follow his strong acceleration and so he celebrates a big win. Very well done by the Italian.
2nd for Fernandez let him stay in the leader jersey. Farrar as 5th was again one of the fastest in the end but missed the right wheel due to the climb.

Dominating win by Bennati.. Top-5 is still good for Farrar with such a climb close to the finish Smile

YvesStevens
Ouch! Bennati was fast. Tsmoha is right, Farrar couldn't win imo here

Easy win for Bennati....nice top5 for Farrar...

Unlucky with Farrar, but still, 5th is a creditable finishSmile

also nice to see that Boonen doesn't win every timeWink

Thanks for the comments. Indeed Bennati was in his own league on this stage.

As you have noticed I had very less time in the last few days. Not at home at half of the weekend and lots of University stuff.
But here the next stage. Wink

Paris - Nice Stage 4
Crêches-sur-Saône - Belleville
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-1.jpg
It`s the first hilly rated stage, so maybe we see the first serious attacks here. But the distance from the last climb to the finish is still pretty big.
Next to the GC climbers also some puncheurs like Cancellara, Hermans or Martens and also riders like Van Avermaet or Pozzato are favourites for todays stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-2.jpg
8 riders are in the break of the day. Again Peterson is here for us. Other riders are Navardauskas (Saxo Bank), Irizar (Shack), Posthuma (Leopard), Hushovd (Katusha), Pidgornyy (Vacansoleil), Kaisen (Omega) and Engoulvent (Saur). In general a pretty strong group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-3.jpg
When the gap raised on 7min with 110km to go Astana sent 3 riders to do a higher pace. Long stretched the peloton is riding on the descents now and the gap becomes smaller again.
Either they are hoping for a great day of Fernandez to defend his jersey or they have big trust in Masciarelli, who already proved his good form in the Suisse classics.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-4.jpg
With ~80km to go Paul Martens makes a long way attack. He once won the Amstel Gold Race in a similar situation but there he wasn`t alone.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-5.jpg
Then a big shock for us. With 63km to go Sanchez is on the ground. He was always riding in the first rows but still he crashed. He doesn`t look too injured but still he has to reach the peloton first to keep his good GC chances.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-6.jpg
But with the help of Butler, Farrar and Pate he is back in the pack without spending too much energy. Good for us, so now let`s hope that he isn`t injured and can have a good ride in the next days.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-7.jpg
The breakaway is caught. Just Martens is able to stay away. His advance is still between 1-2 minutes with 30km and 2 hills to go.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-8.jpg
With 20km to go and on the last descent the advance is still 1'50 and not going down. Also a big surprise that Farrar is still here and not even suffering a lot.
Biggest problem now that Fernandez seems to be in the back of the group and Astana stopped their pace and no other team has enough riders to do it alone. Also Butler, Pate, Stetina and Peterson suffered much more than Farrar and can`t do any pace. Quickstep with Boonen and Van Avermaet or Katusha for Pozzato might have the biggest amount of fresh riders but aren`t doing anything.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-9.jpg
So Martens is celebrating another big win and is taking the leader jersey after this stage. Will be interesting to see if someone can get him out again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-4-10.jpg
Great ride by Farrar. 2nd today. No other pure sprinter had this energy in the end so Farrar will wear the point jersey tomorrow due to the biggest constancy. Boonen had a perfect position but totally cracked up in the end. Also Fernandez was happy to stay in this group and Bennati just finished as 7th.
Probably Farrar is showing that he is capable to perform well in Milan San Remo and is fighting for a spot there.
But the biggest loser today is surely Samu Sanchez. He lost 2'51 today together with his team mates Popovych and Busche. Just Hermans is now within reach for a great overall result for RadioShack.

That was a shocking moment, hopefully LLS is allright. Nice 2nd with Farrar, he was still pretty strong after the tough hills. Martens has a good lead now...
I'll be back

Well ... I hope that LLS did not have anything.
Good job of Farrar winning the group sprint.
Too bad Martens has taken advantage , a man can be uncomfortable.
Good luck for tomorrow,mate Wink
Come on Garmin!

Nice to see Farrar lead home the peletonSmile

A 2nd place is a good way to come back from a short break Wink The crash is the complete opposite, but LLS finished in Top-10 though.. so he looks good.
