I might be wrong Smowz, but I believe it was based on the different Continental Tours. |

Having gone back through a little history from last years transfer season, it worries me about the amount of mistakes made on transfer sheets in excel, and the subsequent re-sale, or loss, of riders who I think we can all agree it'd be nice to see ride throughout the season.
I propose we increase the penalty for lack of attention to ones excel file/formula (don't go changing them, or copying one box into another, it just mucks up your file and you'll lose lots of riders).
Last season, any mistakes of being over the salary cap at the end of the transfer window usually meant that one or two of the offending riders or new transfers were rebuked. This meant that guys like Greipel went to private bidding, and the team who had originally "bought" them lost their services for the year. However, does this really equal the damage brought into the transfer season?
How many times have you bid on a rider when a manager who is subsequently found to be over his (her? Waghlon?) salary cap come end of season. The rider he won in the bidding fight with you, he gets to keep. Is that really fair?
I'm not saying that this shouldn't happen, I mean it's illogical to not go over the salary cap for some managers. If you're looking for a replacement stage racer, and can only sell yours once you've secured the use of another one, then it'd be stupid to sell yours first, possibly losing both.
But, as one famous person once said (Waghlon?), with great risk comes great reward. Or punishment.
I would suggest that as addition punishment for retarded behaviour in this manner, the manager in question incurs the following:
A manager buys a rider.
The rider in question is, by the end of the transfer window, the 5th best rider.
The team is over the salary cap.
The manager (under current rules) loses his 2nd best, or 3rd best, rider along with the offending rider in question (so if one rider is incorrectly added to the spreadsheet, it is he who he "freed").
I propose to add:
The manager in question also incurs a penalty monetry punishment equal to the offending rider's wage.
i.e. The rider's wage is 200,000, the team is fined 200,000 for administrative reasons - such as; finding the rider a new team at such short notice; or paying compensation to the rider whose contract fell through.
I know it's not much, but if Wiggle had got it wrong this season, the penalty incurred would have meant I wouldn't have been able to enter the Wildcards I wanted to, or I wouldn't have been able to train Caruso.

What's wrong with the current system? Last year I went 2,000 overbudget due to mistyping Pineau's wage (hands up) and I subsequently lost Pineau (i think to the team who i'd outbid) and the 700,000 odd I'd had left for training. Was that not enough? |

Surely losing other riders is a greater punishment than a fine? And I think the teams that went over the limit werent allowed to train anybody anyway.
And Wacko you didnt lose that 700,000, you just werent allowed to use it

I wasn't aware of your second sentance. In that case, I withdraw my previous suggestion. I feel like there is adequate punishment. Just. |

So I get that 700,000 next year? That's better than I thought. I feel that maybe people should be forced to send in an early version of their excel file to eliminate mistakes (it would definitely help me). |

There is nothing to prevent you sending it to a "friend" or non-rival manager to check over. Think how much work you've just asked SN to do. That's twice checking every transfer sheet of some 40 teams.
And you don't get 700,000 next season. You only ever carry over a proportion of the previous seasons remaining funds. |

Id just like to point out that I was willing to accept transfer sheets before the end of transfers last year, and some managers did do so - and I checked to make sure it was all looking good.
Its how Waghlon avoided trouble - he sent me his Excel sheet on the last day, I noticed he was due to be over, so he was able to loan out Mouris at the last minute.
So last year, there was no excuses to be over. But rjc is right, its too much work for me to look through all teams - my main concern really is to receive the sheets of new teams in advance, as they are more likely to mess up.

I'm always impressed when people manage to mess it up.
The transfer sheet does it for you if you fill it in as you go.
Yes - I know - I'm now guaranteed to mess it up this year..... |

Dont bid wildly, always keep track of who you bid on, always note down when youve bought a rider, dont play around with Excel at all, and you shouldnt have any problems, yes
And yet, every year...

I had 2 excel files, my good one, with all my transfers. And one exact copy in which i added my bids, if i won, then i would just add it to my original. Caused no problems at all.

Well to counter your mistake, I checked each entry about twenty times to make sure I hadn't messed up anywhere.

I have a question. According to the rules, a team must finish with a min. of 20 riders. What happens with a team that ends up with less then 20 riders after going over their cap?

Well if a team has less than 20 riders, but can afford to have 20 riders, why would they not have 20 riders?
In this unlikely scenario, Im guessing theyd be forced to take crappy riders on at a 50k wage until the number 20 has been reached.

I actually ment: A team has over 20 riders, but ends the transfer season over their cap. 2 riders get sacked by you. They end up with 19 riders.
