Nah, without Contador Schleck II should win the Tour easily. There's no one even close to him, unless someone gives a huge step forward this year. But the only GC rider in age of improving significantly is Gesink, so yeah.
I'll gladly cheer Gesink instead of Schleckford. One's a nice guy, the other has an ego big enough to ride its own bike. Easy choice.

Don't remember where I saw it, but Basso was putting out similar wattages on the climbs at the Giro to Schleck and Contador at the Tour.
Having said that - it'd surprise me to see him ride so well at the Tour. |

According to AP, a verdict is expected by the end of next week. |

I read mid-February in various French media. :? The sooner the better, though. |

Apparently, the next monday the UCI is supposed to send a report to the RFEC stating whether Contador's excuse is to be believed or not. RFEC's final resolution is expected for 10-15th of February. |

As "AS" and "Marca" wrote the REFC will ban Contador for 1 year as no site was able to prove on which way the Clenbuterol came into him.
He would also lose his TDF win 2010.
I personally hope that the UCI claims for a 2-year-ban as I don`t believe in anything else than doping on purpose.

It's a flawed argument, though, as it's up to Contador to prove that he didn't take clenbuterol with the intention to dope.
Anyway, with a 1 year ban, we can at least be sure that he won't be in the Tour de France. If he had received a 6 or 9 month ban, he'd probably in the Tour since CAS probably won't be able to make a decision anytime soon.

This will end up in the CAS anyway, so it doesn't really matter how long is the ban imposed by the RFEC. |

It does have some significance.
As said above: If the ban is short, Contador will be able to ride when the ban expires, if CAS still hasn't made a decision - which is quite likely.
He may even race the Tour this year if RFEC's ban is shorter than one year. |

He may even race the Tour this year if RFEC's ban is shorter than one year. Why, oh why, don't they have preventive bans at CAS ?
I mean Bouyer (or is it Renier ? I always mix the both of them), couldn't race for years because his product hadn't been allowed, even though his disease is long time proved and he gets no benefit from his cure. But when it comes to a guy who's doped/is doping, like Hondo before, or Contador in a close future, the guy is able to race until he gets suspended ?
That goes way beyond any common sense... |

He will race the Tour this year as he is the biggest Spanish cyclist, so the RFEC's ban will be shorter than one year.
Anyone think they'll give him a ban that keeps him out of the Tour by lets him ride the Vuelta?

He may race the Tour, but he can't win it. The CAS has no reason to ban Contador for less than a year. |

Whether Contador rides the Tour or not is probably up to RFEC, not CAS |

Yes, but whether Contador, in case he wins the Tour, keeps it, is up to CAS. If he's suspended for one year, he'd lose the Tour, for 2nd year in a row.
That assuming that the ban would start the day he tested positive, though, but it's the most likely option, imo. |

But I think he can beat Contador :-)
Thank you Andy for everything!

Not exactly. The RFEC's disciplinary commitee has recommended a 1 year ban. Contador has 10 days to contest it, before the main RFEC organs issue the final ban.....which I'm hoping will be taken to CAS by either WADA or the UCI.
