Really good race, but unfortunately there were not many top riders/climbers. |

Funny how no one has any problem with Horner working for Van Garderen on the Alpe.
When it was Contador and Valverde, everyone was up in arms.

It is hypocritical but Horner and Van Garderen are likeable guys. Whereas Contador and Valverde are not. Similar to the public persona of Barry Bonds vs Mark McGuire

Thanks for proving my point of two weeks ago that people who only read anglophone cycling media tend to not see non-anglophones in a very good light.
Valverde is the nicest, friendliest guy in the peloton. But you wouldn't know that from english language media, would you? Horner's not exactly liked by non-american former teammates (or even current teammates). But you wouldn't know that from english language media, would you?
It's a double standard, pure and simple

It annoyed me, but more because he dropped off very early from the lead, so after not bothering to help his team mate he then helps a fellow American, that said he isn't a proven doper so it doesn't fill me with rage like Valverde winning something does.

Actually Horner has been caught back in the '90s as far as I remember.
@ABridgeTooFar: I wouldn't call Horner a likeable guy really, not from what I have seen of him. I don't know about Van Garderen and Valverde really, but Contador seems to me like a very nice guy.

If I remember correctly, he hasn't been caught, but he spent a season in Saunier Duval, and that's an equivalent of a positive test |

It depends who you are, and what you want to see, hear and find out.

Well when I saw it(Horner helping Van Gaarderen), I thought it seems a clear Radioshack against Contador thing. TVG was going well and was not that far from holding Contador off for second place - when I saw Horner drop back to help him up the last part of the climb like a Radioshack little effort to help TVG maintain that place. More likely Horner thought I will just help a young American out here.
I was half expected TVG to stick two fingers up at Horner but he was obviously knackered.
The whole race I felt we got a big Radioshack vs Astana thing, though I somehow think there will be more too it in the Tour (proper )

but to a certain extent you only read what's there and don't go trawling through other languages and magazines to find that out. Valverde is a proven doper (or if that's not enough proof, someone who fills his extracted blood with EPO) and that's fact.
Looking at it from my perspective, I didn't see it either time so I wasn't outraged either time. I know there are allegiances in the peloton, both of these apparently due to nationality, so it doesn't really surprise me, although these may have been a bit more obvious than usual.

Anglophone media = Biased towards Anglophone riders
Francophone media = Biased towards francophone riders
etc.
I don't have too much problems with Contador by the way, I sort of like him. I just don't like the way he dominates. Then again though i'm sure non-brits don't like Cavendish sprint domination.

You mean that Martin-Rabon-Renshaw-Mr."i only sprint in last 300 metres" thing?

x3.
The anglophone cycling media sometimes aren't worth the name, they only care about the anglophones, not the other equally good riders in the peloton. |

this is invalid. it would be stupid to sprint beforehand. This applies to nearly evey sprinter, although admittedly some don't have lead out trains.
