China is quite a lot closer to Equator though

Taihu isn't that much closer to the Equator than Spain or Italy, and they don't have a Gulf Stream to make their weather warmer, so the climate there is quite similar. No, the reason is that without any racing in Europe they have the chance to pick smaller European teams to increase the field quality.
