Stage 3
The 134 kilometres between Unley and Victor Harbor are pretty flat again. Only 1000 height metres, and a flat last part.
12km to go
The stage is pretty boring, as the peloton keeps in control and never lets the BOTD create a big margin. So Tosh Van der Sande (Omega Pharma), Alberto Contoli (Liquigas, 2nd day in a row in the BOTD) and Bradley White (UnitedHealthcare) get caught with just 12km to go. Mass sprint number 2!
1km to go
Lacking a pure sprinter, we try to make the most of it. Matti Breschel is in 10-12th position when entering the last kilometre. Kenny Dehaes is in the lead, leading out Mark Cavendish. But the Manx Missile is waiting to start his jump, and the others are starting to overtake him!
Finish
It's Bernhard Eisel who takes the lead with only 400 ----- 300 ----- 200 ----- 100 metres to go, and takes the .... No, like jack out of the box, Mark Cavendish passes his Austrian friend with an ultimate jump. Too bad for Eisel, but great ride by Cavendish. 3rd place goes to Ventoso, while Breschel takes the 11th.

Word from the DS
The most important thing that happened in this stage, is that Breschel took back 1 second. Off to the next one.

Thanks. You have to wait for Willunga Hill. Maybe tonight the 4th stage, but after that a 1 week silence, as I'm away for a holiday. And Breschel has 76 in Sp.

Stage 4
The 4th stage from Norwood to Tanunda is classified as hilly, and this is probably due to Menglers Hill. 2.7km at 7.3% with the summit 21km before the finish. But probably to far from the finish to surprise the GC-contenders.
21km to go
The story of the stage so far: 7 riders attack right out of the start and create a maximum margin of 7 minutes. Steensen (Saxo), Stannard (Sky), Pasqualon (Lampre), Crawford (Garmin), Tamouridis (Rabobank), Arashiro (Europcar) and Sutton (Astana) begin the ascend of Menglers Hill with a gap of 2 minutes to the peloton. Between the 7 and the peloton rides Juan Antonio Flecha, who tried to counter 30km before.
Ascending Menglers Hill, Matti Breschel! Our Dane gets countered by Michal Albasini (Red Bull) and David López (Euskaltel) and the 3 close the gap to Flecha. Meanwhile, Yukiya Arashiro has attacked out of the BOTD and is the first to crest the summit. The group Breschel follows at 1'15 and the peloton at 1'59. For sure, GC-leader Filippo Pozzato and his BMC-team have been extremely unaware of whatwas going on!
10km to go
Breschel and Albasini drop the 2 Euskaltel-riders at the summit, and fly past evry member of the BOTD, except for Arashiro. The 2 cooperate very well, and join the Japanese with 12km to go. Behind them, Pozzato tries to counters and is closing the gap to the 3 leaders, together with López. With 10km to go, they are '30 behind the 3 leaders (the peloton of 56 riders follows at '55), what is the sign for Breschel to attack again!
2km to go
Last years winner of the Tour Down Under increases his lead, and entering the last 2 kilometres, he leads the 4 (Albasini and Arashiro have been joined by Pozzato and López) by '33! The 4 are about to get swallowed by the peloton. It's look like the win is safe for our Dane, but what will be the time difference?
Finish
Matti Breschel takes the win in Tanunda, and also secures himself of the GC-lead! 24 seconds behind him, Francisco Ventoso finishes in 2nd place, followed by John Degenkolb. Sep Vanmarcke gets a great 4th place!

Did Matti decided the Tour Down Under even before Old Willunga Hill? He showed a great performance today, absolutely amazing! Now let's control the last 2 stages, to start with the finish at Old Willunga Hill in tomorrow's stage!

Thanks guys. But now you have to be patient. No more reports for the weak. The laptop goes with me at the holiday, but unless there suddenly is some internet or wifi in the vacationhome I rented in the Ardennes, there won't be reports the next week.
See ya!
