but both Boonen and Pozzato showed they had the strenght(both body and mind) on the hills, and Haussler showed that he didnt have it
Boonen couldnt attack when Devolder was in front, because he might be taking Pozzato(who outsprinted Boonen in E3prijs) with him and then QS might not have won...
Devolder alone in front 1min ahead of the pack = a 100% sure win for QS, if Boonen attacked and went to catch Devolder, a group might have been formed, something like Boonen Devolder Pozzato Flecha maybe some others( but not Haussler cause he got dropped on the hills ) and then the win for QS would have been far from sure :-) and Haussler/Gilbert/Nuyens/Hushovd etc wouldnt have got the chance to sprint for second place
fair point you got there but Pozzato didn't have the team tactics excuse niether the Rabo riders which spent all their strength when they shouldnt (though that was probably due to a question of bad luck).
my original statement refered to Haussler's riding which was really impressive this last weeks since we're talking about a rider which (as far as I know) doesn't have any relevant results in major classics

exactly so they didnt attack because they didnt want to take Boonen with them or simply because they couldnt and the best man was in front (Devolder) or with them(Boonen)
and I agree, Haussler has been riding impressivly in previous weeks but he himself said he wasnt as good in RVV as in MSR or Dwars door Vlaanderen or other races and that he was very happy with his second place, so why doubt his own words |

well Boonen has a talent to be beaten by his team-mates: Ronde last year, Milano San-Remo 2006 by Pozzato or the stage won by Steegmans in Le Tour 2007.
That's true, however didn't Boonen lead out Steegmans in 2006 (Gent).
Not that it matters.
Also nice to see that Haussler isn't saying "oh i felt good" etc. He's saying next year he has to work on when to peak his form, he thinks he's not feeling as good as he did.
The stage you're referring to was in 2007, Doddy, and Boonen didn't lead out Steegmans. It was simply a matter of Steegmans being in a stronger condition than Boonen. So much so, he couldn't come round his lead out man on the day the Tour went into Belgium, a stage he'd obviously want to win. You can see his frustration as they race to the line, before a forced smile takes over. He later claimed it was a 'gift' for Steegmans, but I think otherwise
And on the matter of 'Haussler was strong/weak', I actually have to go with Reuben on this one (a little).
Why? Because I believe that he could of been dropped at any moment in the latter stages, providing the leading group hadn't been messing around and failing to organise a proper chase. Now, obviously Haussler is in great form, and is able to race a lot better at the ronde than previously, but he would never have won the race (if Devolder hadn't been in front) and isn't likely to in the future unless he improves his climbing considerably. |

Last time defending Haussler..15 year for now..who will remember that Boonen and Pipo was stronger then Haussler (maybe Ruben)..statistics shows 2. Haussler..and they never will think..damn this guy was weak..and what he have here Milano San Remo 2nd. damn what a disaster month in 2009 for Haussler

Nah, he just needs to be on form and injury-free, which hasn't happened for him at Katusha (or however you want to spell it). Remember P-N last year, when he was on form, no Boonen, and the sprints suited his powerful style.
A problem with his back as well as a dodgy left knee have caused him problems this year, but he'll be back. |

Cyclingfans says that "Big breakaway group containing Boonen, Brown, Haussler, Quinziato, Burghardt, Hincapie, Cancellara, among other big names."
Even if its early that could be the winning group. They sad yesterday that it would be windy. |
