If it is anything like what has gone already then this schedule will be good indeed Wink

Haven't followed this story for a time but I'll try to pick it up again. Nice report from Le Tour and of course I'm happy with Mollema on third place. Only one stage victory isn't very much but at least you won the green jersey. Good luck with the upcoming races! Wink

YvesStevens
a lot of races on home soil, that will give him extra motivation

baia
Great report for Le Tour and with some great pics aswell.. Wink not the best Tour for Cannondale but at least Sagan brought the green home.. with Sagan going to SKY, the team really needs a strong rider now... any news about Betancur?
That calender fits Raphael really nice.. i´m sure he will be successfull..Wink

@sutty: Thanks man. Let's hope so. Smile

@MrUfo: Thank you. Sure hope that everything will run smoothly with the second half of the season.
I have actually compiled lists of attained races in the second opening post and I marked some of them bold, and I honestly think that those are sort of the best posts. So if you want to catch up but not necessarily have time to read everything, I suggest you may try at least the bold ones. Smile

@YvesStevens: Some love from local tivosi-(girls) should definitely motivate him even more. Cool

@baia: Thank you. Of course those "great" pics look rather dull compared to your story. Wink Of course, there'll be one or two new signings, however there won't be one really big signing. I'll get to that later in the season. Smile

Clasica San Sebastian
Clasica San Sagan!
i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/2014-03-2413_31_32-Greenshot_zps29209ddb.jpg

Cannondale’s Peter Sagan, fresh winner of the green jersey, confirmed his stellar mid-season form by winning the Clasica San Sebastian this year ahead of Simon Gerrans and Luis Leon Sanchez. The Slovakian sprinter profited from some great team work and a suiting finale, in which Cannondale held the pace pace high in order to keep the race close. His sprint then was a performance of a class at the coastlines of San Sebastian.

I returned to racing once more after my small visit to the National Championships in late June. I’m back for good now and prepare for my late season highlights. Here in San Sebastian, I merely raced to gain some form though and help Sagan. Initially there were quite a lot of clouds on the sky, but as we came closer to the coasts, the sky lifted itself. A strong wind often changed direction and either made cycling here a joy or a torment, and keeping a big, 12-men group upfront in control, so that they didn’t get too far away, wasn’t that easy once more.

While we did some work earlier on in the race, Movistar, BMC and Lampre were remorseless in the second part, when they began to hunt the break of the day. At 35 kilometers left, Alejandro Valverde attacked and caused some hectic in the finale. The recent Tour de France winner had a unique, stellar season so far and of course would have loved to include this race in his palmares as well. However, Marcato and I did our job well enough in the finale 10 kilometers of the race to catch him. When we caught him eventually, Marcato and I kept the pace high, kept the race closed for any late breakaway attempts, and therefor Sagan had a truly delicious finale served up for him as meal – and he enjoyed it by winning the race!

Trofeo Matteotti

A day after Cannondale’s victory at, we had once more a reason to celebrate. Marco Marcato got rewarded for his selfless, tireless work throughout this campaign with another race perfectly suited to him. He did a great job and snatched the win in Pescara. I myself performed a late attack at 10 km to go, mostly in order to keep the pace high. I was caught at around 700 meters left, so there's a little bit bitter after-taste. Marcato took advantage of the race events and launched his sprint impeccable in the last meters in order to take the stage win. I'm quite happy for him, though I hoped for a Top 10 result for myself. Coming in 11th will have to do though. At least after two days of racing, I feel like my form has improved.

World Tour News

Also a quick heads up from the Tour de Pologne. Sergio Henao won the race and claimed two stages win along the win. Can this considered a bit of a consolation after Team Sky missed the podium? I doubt it.

WTF? Only been gone few days an dfrom Sagan being injured for classics your in San Sebastian lol great job Shonak definately the quickest reports on this site both your story's have been great and quick.

SSJ2Luigi
ah Luis León Sánchez, hoping that he can do even better in real life at Clasica Smile

Shonak
@baia: Yup, two good days and Raphael helped both times. You'll see lots of him action from him in the remaining season. He is surprisingly close already to the rider I intended him to become. Smile

@atlanta: Haha. Well this story is all about speed. I write the reports with the intention of quick reading and the possibility to dig deeper if people want to, and I choose the races with that in mind as well. It took me some time to adapt the formula to road racing but I think I got it figured out for stage races too by now.

@SSJ2Luigi: Well, the race suits him perfect so I imagine he can win it for a third time. Personally I'm hoping for one of the Izagirre brothers to take the Clasica in one of the next years.

We come into August and I visit the RideLondon-Surry Classic. A lovely race, which turned quite unexpected fast, but maybe that's still my legs searching for rhythm
Arnaud Gerard from Bretagne - Séché Environnement won the RideLondon-Surry Classic in a fantastic performance over the last 300 meters, finishing the sprint way ahead of everybod else. Moreno Moser finished 6th after a lead-out by yours truly.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Visconti/RR_07_2014/2014-03-2500_16_59-Greenshot_zpsfc992bb6.jpg

I myself came in 15th, so I’m all good. I feel like I came into form as many riders have dropped in the hills around London. I was a bit surprised by the unexpected speed throughout the race and there were several attacks, so I got a bit nervous. Hopefully I’ll get used to competitive racing soon again.

Next race will be the Eneco Tour, one of my mid-season highlights.

Eneco Tour
Visconti – Who’s that guy?!

Eneco Tour was probably the stage race I was most interested in contesting this year. Right now, I feel like it suits me the best and the after effects of the two Grand Tours may be felt for many riders. But my legs, they feel fresh and they are ready and I was eager to impress. It’s another beautiful race in Belgium for what it’s worth and it soon ended up becoming a dream of mine.

With bonus seconds at the finish line (10,6,4 sec) and intermediate sprints (6,4,2 sec) and my bluntly obvious weakness in Time Trials, I had a bit of a daring plan to have a decent GC position ahead of the finale stage, which featured the infamous Muur van Geraardsbergen.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Visconti/RR_08_2014/2014-03-2501_01_04-Greenshot_zps3c9197b8.jpg

Stage 1 was a short prologue and I ended up losing already time. 27 seconds on the stage’s winner Taylor Phinney. Certainly neither Prologue nor Time Trials, or as a matter of fact anything involving me fighting against clocks, is not particularly my strength. I may have to work on that in the future, but for now… let’s race.

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Visconti/RR_08_2014/2014-03-2515_33_06-Greenshot_zps2842fde8.jpg

An utterly flat stage was featured as the second one and Cannondale delivered quite a surprise there. We were alert and ready in the finale and I had massive great legs. As a result, I had to watch out for Sabatini’s backwheel, to protect it. There were some cobblestones early on but none of them was a factor for the stage’s finale. There Gatto leaded the bunch after Kristoff and Boasson Hagen made surprisingly attacks 5 kms from the race. We kept ourselves up there, but Sabatini was already suffering in the wind. When he headed into the finale corner, Cannondale seemed to go clear and I was right there behind Sabatini, and then I just moved passed him. I kept myself in front of everyone. And I passed Fabio there and just felt unstoppable for a moment there. I was trying to go fast and I was going damn fast.
And I won the stage! A massive day I thought. A quick joy overcame me, but when I looked back, I felt incredible bad: Sabatini finished 2nd. I felt like I just stole him his victory. I was at a loss for words and was saying sorry and sorry over again. I couldn’t be happy anymore at the table. I’m young and I was always proud to be teamplayer. Now I just felt like a guy with a knife, ready to stab his teammates… I slept badly that night; did you ever do that after a victory?

i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Visconti/RR_08_2014/2014-03-2515_33_57-Greenshot_zpsfe2070fb.jpgi1291.photobucket.com/albums/b543/Sh0nak/Visconti/RR_08_2014/vis_podium_zpsb58008ff.jpg

There were no goose bumps, no joy, not the feeling I appreciated so much in my young years. I refused to do an interview after the stage, it didn't feel like this was my stage win. It should have been Fabios.
But when I woke up, and looked out of the window, that odd feeling, that regret was gone and I could smile as I realized I had won a World Tour stage the previous day.

With this great feeling, I proclaimed a bit of a free role at the team briefing in the morning. The DS and my teammates agreed and so I was free to attack on stage 3 and I took advantage of that. I wanted to grab as many bonus seconds as possible since I knew that it was unlikely we would make it to the finish anyway. With Leukemans and Iglinksiy I was in the break of the day on a horrible, rainy day. I managed to get 12 bonus seconds, and after the many small hills I put behind me, the peloton catched us eventually. I had invested quite some energy and effort for those few bonus seconds in the moody weather of Belgium, but it was a hard day’s work and I was satisfied with it. Greipel ended up winning stage 3.

The moment I got caught.

Another stage with a few slight and small hills was featured the next day, but honestly it was a rather flat one again. I had to go again for some bonus seconds as there was an intermediate early on in the race and I powered myself really out for 6 seconds because Greipel’s Lotto Belisol team chased me hard each time I made a push for it. In fact, I did way too much for some lousy bonus seconds. I could have used that energy easily later on. But done was done, and maybe it was a lesson that I needed to learn.

I wasn’t part of the break later on, but they got caught 10 kilometers from the finish. Another german wins the stage this time, Marcel Kittel. Meanwhile, Edvald Boasson Hagen collected enough bonus seconds himself to take over the leader’s jersey from Phinney.
