Monthly Interview: Ian Boswell
We are here with Ian Boswell of the team MTN-Qhubeka. The second year pro rode with Sky in the first half of last year, before the British team disbanded after a doping scandal at the Giro. Ian’s name was cleared of any wrong-doing, and he soon signed with MTN-Qhubeka. The young American has won both stage races he taken part in this year: The Tour of Oman, and Tirreno-Adriatico.
Interviewer: Congrats on your win of Tirreno - Adriatico, did you celebrate a lot already?
Ian Boswell: I certainly did, I probably celebrated too much. Three weeks is a long time to celebrate.
Interviewer: Winning such a race on World Tour level is a big achievement; do you think there will be more to follow this season?
Ian Boswell: I sure hope there will be more; I will give it my best shot.
Interviewer: What hopes and expectations do you have for the Tour de France this year as a season highlight?
Ian Boswell: My current goal is a top five, but it all depends on who shows up at the start.
Int: In retro perspective, how would you describe the Sky doping from your point of view, how did you experience the events and what impact did it have on you on a professional and personal level?
IB: It was a very sad and crazy time; lots of fans were calling for the whole team to get bans. It wasn’t a fun time, and I don’t think I will live it down.
Int: The move to MTN seems to have paid off by now, with them reaching World Tour level and you as one of the key riders. The contract runs until 2016 and quite a lot could change in that time, any worries concering the team's development or your own along the way?
IB: I don’t really have any worries. Alex (Zulle) is doing a great job with our training and coaching us.
Int: What was your sweetest victory so far in your young career?
IB: I’d say my second victory. It was a long solo win in the Tour of Utah. I got caught by Acevedo, but then dropped him with 5 km to go. It was awesome.
Int: You are bringing MTN to a spot where they never thought would be possible. This might bring many teams to wish to have you... will you ride for other team at the end of the season or will you fulfill your 3/5 years contract by MTN?
IB: I currently plan to ride out my contract barring something drastic happening within the team.
Int: You have a release clause with MTN which releases you if the team does not ride in WT in next 2 years. I see you are almost the only rider who brings points to them, isn´t this a little too much for you?
IB: I’m really not the only rider scoring points. So far, we have 6 guys who have scored this year. Also, Stybar, Ciolek, and Thomas will all bring in large point totals.
Int: That concludes our interview, thank you for coming Mr. Boswell.
Ride of the Month: Mark Cavendish Milan-San-Remo
The Manxman showed his improvement on hills, taking his second monument on a route that he thought was too hard for him.
Surprise of the Month: Ion Izagirre Paris-Nice
The Spainard shocked the cycling world, taking the French Stage Race with a solo win on stage 7, and then defending his lead in the final Time Trial.
Rider of the Month: Fabian Cancellara
"Spartacus" had a great month, taking 4th in Paris-Nice, 2nd in Milan San Remo, and 1st in E3, and De Ronde. A deserved award for Cancellara.

Tour of the Basque County Preview
We bring a relatively weak team to the race, as most of guys in this race are building up to the Giro. The main contenders for the GC are: Sagan, Gilbert, Moreno, Contador, and Quintana.
Stage 1 is a hilly race that features three passes of a cat 2 climb. The last climb of the day tops out with 4.5 km to go.
The Race
Three riders formed the break at the gun. The riders: Haga of Argos, Fairly of Garmin, Tjallingii of Belkin.
On the second time up the big climb, Piedra and Acevedo went on the attack. It is 1 minute to the duo of Spanish speakers, and another 3 to the break.
The two were quickly brought back into the bunch. On the last passage of the big climb, four riders got away from the rest. They were: Kangert, Vannedert, Quintana, and Anton.
With 20 km to go, Haga is the last one ahead of the bunch. He has a 1 45 gap to the Belkin-led bunch.
At the foot of the final climb, Bardet went on the attack, and we let him go in search of Haga.
At the summit of the climb, Bardet has caught and passed Haga and is soloing to a stage win and the yellow jersey.
The Frenchman takes a beautiful solo win! 40 seconds later Acevedo crosses the line leading in the bunch. Haga takes a deserved third place on the day. I finish in sixth.

Post Race Comments- A tough day for me. I struggled today to keep up with Gilbert. I not in near as good form as I was in Tirreno, and I think a top 5 will be tough. Tomorrow is the flat stage, and I won't make a report.
See You Then- Ian

Tour of the Basque Country Stage 3
The third stage of the spanish race features a three km long summit finish with an average gradient of 12%. My goal is to be on the podium today.
The Race
The day's four man group got away after the first climb. The riders: Piedra of Caja Rujal, Offredo of FDJ, Txurrka of Oakley, and Ignatenko of Katusha.
With 35 km to go, Quintana was already attacking, and he got away for a short period on a short cat 4. He was brought back in the descent.
It didn't take long for Quintana to attack again. This time no one even tried to follow the Colombian.
With 10 km to go, Ignatkenko is 1 15 ahead of the BMC-led peloton. Quintana has been brought back at this time.
As soon as the riders hit the final climb, Sagan accelerated up the climb, taking Gilbert and I with him.
With 1 km to go, Gilbert is cracking behind Sagan's pace. However, I'm pulling him back, can I get past the Slovakian in time to take the win?
I can't as Peter Sagan takes his second stage win in a row and the leader's jersey. I take second with Gilbert third 11 seconds back. Costa finishes fourth and former leader Bardet finishes 1 01 back.

Post Race Comments- I wanted a podium, and I took second. I can't really ask for more than to finish on the same time as the leader's in this race. All of these road stages are really suited to Sagan. Tomorrow is another hilly day, and I hope to retain my GC spot.
See You Then- Ian

What are Sagan's stats?
