TdF Stage 5 -- Cholet - Chateauroux

img832.imageshack.us/img832/4755/5tdfprofile.jpg

img34.imageshack.us/img34/1884/5tdf1.jpg
The pack is splitting up with 30 kms left, due to strong winds

img713.imageshack.us/img713/5194/5tdf2.jpg
Andy Schleck is caught in the back

img171.imageshack.us/img171/4206/5tdf3.jpg
Wiggins, Kreuziger and Nibali also lost contact, but they get back to the front soon after.

img706.imageshack.us/img706/1064/5tdf4.jpg
Haussler wins the sprint

img153.imageshack.us/img153/2998/5tdf5.jpg
Our 3 riders at the front. We prioritized protecting VdB instead of going for the stage, so Feillu was completely finished when the sprint started.

The pack split up Pas de Peyrol, this is the second group. Riders who are in this group: Menchov, Wiggins, Kreuziger, Sanchez, Andy and Fränk, Nibali among other others.

img43.imageshack.us/img43/6449/7tdf2.jpg
We are doing all we can to keep the lead, only around 35 riders in the front.

img707.imageshack.us/img707/2695/7tdf3.jpg
After Pas de Peyrol the lead is around 2 minutes

img860.imageshack.us/img860/9779/7tdf4.jpg
But at the last climb the lead is just over a minute. We increase the pace even more.

img560.imageshack.us/img560/1557/7tdf5.jpg
Getting stretched over the top

img593.imageshack.us/img593/8259/7tdf6.jpg
And the lead is again around 2 minutes

img218.imageshack.us/img218/7005/7tdf7.jpg
Feillu was sitting at the back of the pack on the downhill, and therefore couldn't do anything in the sprint.

img859.imageshack.us/img859/6711/7tdf8.jpg
Haussler wins the sprint, Feillu gets 0 points.

img823.imageshack.us/img823/7010/7tdf9.jpg
Group no. 2 finishes "1'40 behind.

Thanks Smile

But is was more the lack of concetration from the other rider, than my skills, which made VdB move up to 4th.

No other teams wanted to do any workd on Col Peyresourde, so we take the responsibility. Right now I'm very happy I chose to bring so many climber. Rolland, Sicard, Pinot, Voeckler and Gautier all did a great job on this stage

img222.imageshack.us/img222/4133/9tdf2.jpg
Nibali, Menchov and Wiggins further behind, all lost contact on Peyresourde (probably due to the one-lane roads).

img845.imageshack.us/img845/6330/9tdf3j.jpg
Only 30 riders left in the front group, which would decrease to 20 over the Aspin. Van den Broeck has great legs, but it is too far to the line from the top, so I won't waste any energy on attacking.

img819.imageshack.us/img819/7623/9tdf4.jpg
Sanchez wins the sprint, VdB is 4th

Yes, the differences hasn't been that big yet. I think there were over 70 riders left over Tourmalet, so the pace wasn't that high.

img543.imageshack.us/img543/7315/11tdfprofile.jpg
Perfect stage for a break away, which Arvesen proved in 2008. But, actually there was no break away at all, so the pace over Col de Portel was extremely slow.

img859.imageshack.us/img859/5168/11tdf1.jpg
First time we use Gautier in a sprint so far

img695.imageshack.us/img695/8313/11tdf2.jpg
The uphill sprint could suit Gilbert, but I think he is going too early. Feillu has Davis on his wheel

img691.imageshack.us/img691/7427/11tdf3.jpg
Feillu goes with 1.2 kms left, but Davis has higher speed.

img15.imageshack.us/img15/5316/11tdf4.jpg
EXTREMELY close finish where Davis passed Feillu in the last metres. We can comfort ourselves with Haussler bad result.

Feillu has higher speed than the others in the end, but he can't stop Haussler from winining, still he managed a second.
