Apparently the organization changed the route and there are 17km more than what was planned.

Right now they're 15km from the finish and the peloton has split up.

Edit: Gilbert dropped on the 3km long climb with an average of 9%.

Edit: Steve Cummings wins ahead of Van Garderen, Contador and Tony Martin.

What's up with Sky today Grin ? Doing brilliantly so far.

Kessiakoff already better then the last season?
Injuries and sickness instead of good results last season.
Hope he will be at least as good as 2009 season with some good giro results and Tour Romandie.

Really promising for Germans with Martin and Klöden in a good position for the TT. Hope Martin wins the overall Banana

Cummings is really a bit surprising there. Great to see VanGarderen there, too.

If the ITT isnt too technical I think Martin will win by a landslide.

No chance for Vandevelde. Hagen is way better at short ITT's and besides it's a course with 2 steep hills so pulling a minute back on Gesink on an 18km hilly ITT is pretty complicated.

I think Hagen can do it. But Vandevelde? No.

Pretty sick.
Gesink did NOT attack at the foot of the climb. He went with 2km to go.

47 seconds in 2km .. and outside the top 5 the rest on a minute

IN 2 KM .... wtf

Well the kilometer before that was only 6% so it wouldn't be the best way to burn a good amount of energy. The last two kilometers had an average slope of 13,5% and obviously that would create bigger gaps. Not to mention that the field isn't the strongest here either, Hagen finishing second says alot.

Anyways, how did the stage turn out? I didn't get to watch it unfortunately. It does seem pretty weird that there are only 14 riders within 3 minutes at the finish line. There must've been some sort of other factors that caused the massive gaps as well?

Because of the wind just 30 riders were in the first group when the climb started. Especially Sky, Garmin and Leopard used the wind to get rid of other favourites. So many good climbers of other teams had to work hard to reach the front again. Especially Pinotti had bad luck, who wanted to go for the overall win as he said yesterday.

That somewhat explains the strange results, 47 seconds on Hagen over 2 kilometers of 13,5% isn't that amazing. It's still a nice win by Gesink and he's definitely gonna be a conteder for the big Tours this year, just don't overdo it.

I really hope Tony Martin takes the win in portugal, Contador winning it one week after being cleared woul just suck. Plus I'm german, so go Martin

Sky was setting a wild pace on the flats which caused split in the peleton. I'm pretty sure Gesink suffered a little bit there Wink

Fuglsang and Vinokourov were in the 1st group too. They lost 2 minutes. Vandevelde lost almost 1 minute...

You are not making a valid point here. Just because EBH is doing better than expected, doesn't make Gesinks performance anything less

Maybe you should consider giving credit where credit is due...
