EA-Sony Ericsson Cycling Story (2010)
cunego59
What a pity! Nevertheless, 2 days in yellow is quite good. As you mention PCM2011, will you continue this story there?

Yes Grin As soon as I finish out this season and when PCM11 is all patched up and when the PCM.Daily 2011 DB is out.

Tour of Britain Stage 4 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Profile-3.jpg
The motivation to get up and race today is non-existent. After losing the yellow jersey and having half of our team withdrawal due to fatigue, the rest of the tour is going to be hard to get through.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Breakaway1.jpg
Talansky attacks in the first kilometer since the first two stages showed he doesn't stand a chance in a bunch sprint.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Catch1.jpg
But to many other riders have the same tactic and he is back at square one.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Breakaway2.jpg
Attempt number two, ends in the same fashion as the first try. From there the race slow down while breakaway riders almost seemed scared to make another move. Finally, 30kms later another move ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Breakaway3.jpg
This time it is just 5 riders, they are Christopher Newton, Johan Van Summeren, Andrew Talansky (again), Constantino Zaballa, and Petr Benčík.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/CaughtOut.jpg
But soon it is only 4 because Talansky is stuck in no man's land.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Wind-1.jpg
As the peloton enters the 15kms the wind picks up out of nowhere. Gaps in the peloton emerge. Larsson in good position is safely at the front, but Blaz Jarc and Benjamin Cujnik who are 2nd and 3rd in GC are caught out.

Talansky can only think what if ... as Johan Van Summeren and Constantino Zaballa sprint towards the line. The peloton was to worried about the wind gust that they forgot about the breakaway.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Finish-2.jpg
Zaballa takes the win, as the disfigured peloton is trying to close down the random splits before the line ... But it's irrelevant when we find out the race officials decide not to calculate the peloton time splits.

Interview - Andrew Talansky
Q: You had a very eventful afternoon, any comments?
A: I wish I hadn't wasted my energy on those first two breakaway attempts. Because I would of had a great chance for my first win in a sprint between Zaballa and Johan.

Nice try anyway. Maybe you succeed on one of the next stages!

Mresuperstar
Update: I will be leaving on vacation July 15 for a week, so I will try and finish the Tour of Britain and World Championships before I leave. And I'm debating on doing a mini-story while I'm gone and post the story when I get back. So when I get back it will be the final month of this story, PCM.Daily Favourite Team Contest, and I might do a small mini-story for PCM11.

Tour of Britain Stage 5 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Profile-4.jpg
The day has finally come for Larsson's to get some time back. The climb lasts 1.7 kilometers at a gradient of 6%, so getting all the time back is not a option.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Start.jpg
Cold and rainy day as we set out from Rotherham, England.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Breakaway-2.jpg
Alexander Boyd starts the morning attacks in hopes that the breakaway will make it to the finish again.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/YellowAttack.jpg
Fast forward now to 25kms to go, race leader Hayden Roulston makes the first move from the peloton. Not really a surprise though with the 9 breakaway riders leading by 4'30'', he has to make a move to save yellow.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Chase-1.jpg
With the finish in view, the road is mess with riders jumping off the front one after another. Larsson holds his position waiting for the favorites.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/5kmtogo.jpg
And with 5km to go the move is made by Johan Van Summeren, Larsson counters. The breakaway riders still lead the way ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/LarssonAttack-1.jpg
The climb is now ahead and Larsson can see all of his competitors.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Finish-3.jpg
But the climb isn't long enough or big enough to create a difference. And the man that started the day finishes the day, Alexander Boyd. But the real winner of today's stage is breakaway man Malcolm Elliott just narrowly gets into yellow. Larsson finishes 14th today, but moves back to 28th overall in GC.

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: Now that you are all dried up, what is your opinion of how today finished?
A: After being in the saddle for 4 hours, with heavy rain the whole time, today was just miserable. And at the end of the day my metal concentration just wasn't their to finish off the stage. And it didn't help either that HTC fail to bring back the breakaway riders. Overall it was just a hard day. And as a heads-up don't expect anything from me in the last two stages because I will be resting for the World ITT Championship in a week.

First of all, you Andy Schleck story looks great! I'm really looking forward to that.

And I'm also excited to see what Larsson can do in the WC. Do you play Sweden?

I'm "assigned" the USA squad, but will be following Larsson in the ITT. And I will sim the road race.

The Andy Schleck mini-story gives me a chance to report some different stages than I'm use to with this story, since the climbs in the CT don't even compare to the ones in the GTs.

Tour of Britain Stage 6 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Profile-5.jpg
The first of two flat stages to finish off this disappointing tour. Larsson is just trying to stay out of trouble now with his sights set on the World ITT Championship next week, so our only option is "sprinter" Talansky.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Breakaway-3.jpg
Fredrik Kessiakoff, Bernardo Colex, Giorgio Brambilla, and Lars Wackernagel are able to get away today. At the first sprint point they hold a 4'45'' gap.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Chase-2.jpg
But the peloton doesn't let them get any further away than that, it looks like the sprinters will have their way today.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/20kmtogo.jpg
And with 20kms to go the 4 riders are picked up and put back in their place. And the sprinters migrate their way up to the front, Talansky feeling great today talks Larsson into giving him a lead-out.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/1kmtogo-2.jpg
Larsson on short notice is able to position Talansky around 30th on the road, and leaves Andrew to fight for himself.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Finish-4.jpg
At the front it is Edvald Boasson Hagen from Team Sky that picks up his second stage win of the tour ahead of Krzysztof Jezowski. And Talanksy wasn't lying today about feeling good either, he comes to the line 20th. His best result in a while.

Interview - Andrew Talansky
Q: Very surprising to see you break the top 20, what did you do differently today?
A: First I would like to thank Larsson for the help to reach the front, and after that I don't know what happen. It was a different feeling passing a few riders, rather than being pasted by them. So I guess I will have to try for a top 15 for tomorrow's stage.

Nice to see Talanksy improving. Hope he can do better on the next stage. Is that already the last one?

Last one of the tour, then comes the WC. After that the team has 4 races in October (Jayco Herald Sun Tour, Paris-Bourges, Giro del Piemonte, and Japan Cup) then it is on to season 2!

Tour of Britain Stage 7 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Profile-6.jpg
The final stage before we are off to the World Championships. Talansky will look to better his 20th place finish from yesterday with the help of Larsson.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Breakaway-4.jpg
Gutsy breakaway man João Cabreira, jumps out in front of the original 8 man group, 110kms from the finish.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/20kmtogo-1.jpg
This man has some nerves, he has been riding for 90kms by himself while the other breakaway riders are being caught by the peloton.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/10kmtogo.jpg
But with 10kms to go his long day comes to a end but not without a reward, the KoM classification is his. The sprint trains take over the front, Larsson has Talansky in a perfect position.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/5kmtogo-1.jpg
5km to go, Talansky couldn't ask for a better spot.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Sprint1.jpg
The sprint opens up, Talansky is right there.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Britain/Crash.jpg
But wait ... Stephen Cummings hits the ground hard, but Team Sky is more concerned with Edvald Boasson Hagen sprinting for the line.

Interview - Andrew Talansky
Q: I thought yesterday was a surprised, but 6th! What's going on?
A: I told you guys a while back that you would have to wait until I got in form. Well, I'm in form. Another great lead-out by Larsson, and on a side-note I wish him the best of luck at WC ITT, thanks to him we can take something positive on for this tour other than his stage 1 win.

My game is bugged and didn't give out points for the mountain or sprint classification, so I used a rough estimate to get the top 3 riders.

The favourites have already been listed by the media, and Larsson is projected for a top 3. While Fabian Cancellara comes in with odds 2:1. Another contender Larsson should fear is fresh off his Vuelta win, Alberto Contador. He will either be extremely tired or at top form.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/1-PeraudStart.jpg
It's Peraud lucky day, as he will be the first rider out of the start house.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/2-Peraud.jpg
Peraud mine as well enjoy the scenery because his times are going to be destroyed by the favourites to come.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/3-Plaza.jpg
The first man to put up a good time is Ruben Plaza. He uses the few climbs on route to post a 1h05'27'' at the finish. The opening time to beat.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/4-Sanchez.jpg
Samuel Sanchez of Spain is the next man to challenge that time when he beats both of Plaza's time checks. But at the finish Sanchez falls apart and Ruben holds on by 7 seconds.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/5-PeraudFinish.jpg
Now back to Peraud who finishes with a time of 1h06'57''. After crossing the line he hops into the team car to talk to pump Larsson up. Gustav has to wait another 3 hours before he has to go. And all the other favourites will be on the road in front of him as well.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/6-Cancellara.jpg
Speaking of favourites, Cancellara is the first one to test the legs. At the first check point the crowd can't believe their eyes. He fails to beat Sanchez's leading time by 4 seconds.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/7-Nabali.jpg
Farther up the road Italian Vincenzo Nibali proves the experts right when he sets the time to beat at 1h05'22''. Beating Plaza by 5 seconds.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/8-Martin.jpg
Tony Martin leaves the start house soon after Cancellara.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/9-Contador1.jpg
Then comes Contador a few riders later.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/10-CancellaraFinish.jpg
But now back to Cancellara, who after a slow start comes back to easily puts up the real time to beat, 1h04'51''.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/11-ContadorCheck2.jpg
While Martin can't break Cancellara times, Contador does at the second check by an overwhelming 39 seconds.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/12-LarssonStart.jpg
Larsson makes his way to the start, while it now looks like Contador could be the man to beat.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/13-Larsson2.jpg
No time to stop and play tennis today, Larsson is on a mission.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/14-ContadorFinish.jpg
Contador comes to the line ... and shatters Cancellara time by 48 seconds!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/15-EBH.jpg
And it is a even bigger set back for Fabian, he is pushed into third when Edvald Boasson Hagen beats him by a microsecond.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/FinishCheckPoint1.jpg
Larsson is under the first check point, just 3 seconds behind Contador.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/16-LarssonCheck2.jpg
Larsson is now at the second check point, and has caught J.Brajkovic.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/FinishCheckPoint2.jpg
It's unbelievable ... Larsson picks up 16 seconds and leads Alberto by 13 seconds with 13kms to go!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/17-Larsson5kmtogo.jpg
With 5km to go he is about to pass another rider ... the time he needs to beat at the line to become the next World ITT Champion is 1h04'03''.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/WC%20ITT/18-LarssonFinish.jpg
AND HE DOES - 1h03'33''. Gustav Erik Larsson is the

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: How does it feel being a World Champion?
A: I can't even put it in words ... The best I can come up with is Amazing. I would just like to thank the team training for putting me in the best form possible today, and it really showed.
