After 2 decisive days in Cataluny we head into the final 3 stages, which are all made for sprinters. Cavendish, Farrar and Freire will search for their revenge as Valverde took the win in from them in the second stage, the only stage that ended in a mass sprint so far
Five riders got away in the day's main breakaway, which was going to be a quite important move in today's stage: Garcia Da Pena, Lloyd, Aerts, Schroder and Ladagnous. Diego Ulissi also attacked from the pack but he never joined the leading group and he was eventually brought back. And the escapes managed to spoil the sprinters' party as they entered the last 20 kilometers of the race in a lead of 5 minutes in front of the pack, where no one was interested in chasing them down until the last 50 kilometers of the race since neither of them was a threat for the GC
With just 13 kilometers left from the stage, on the last uphill section of the day, when it was clear that's going to be between the escapes for today's win, Aerts attacked. Schroder and Lloyd tried to keep it up him and they also got away from Garcia Da Pena and Lagagnous. But they had no chance to follow Aerts' wheel there and they were joined back by the other 2 escapes
Aerts had no problems keeping his advantage over the 4 chasers and he brought an important win for Omega Pharma - Lotto. 34 seconds behind him, Schroder won the sprint for the second place in front of Ladagnous
In the pack, Columbia and Garmin where the leading trains, with Davis also following the Columbia one, while Freire and Vigano got in the slipstream of the Garmin train. Maaskant was faster than Eisel and he put Farrar in a better position than Cavendish, but he lost the sprint in front of Freire, while Vigano came third in the pack's sprint

Lovkvist isn't eligible for the youth rankings and as I said there are only 2 stages for sprinters left

At the same time with Volta a Catalunya, the Criterium International is being held in France. Bradley Wiggins will lead Team Sky here, while his main rivals for the GC are going to be Leipheimer, Samuel Sanchez and Kim Kirchen. Today's stage is the only one made for sprinters, and the main favorites are Veelers, Veylandt and Swift
As you probably already guessed the game crashed again and this time I don't even have a picture with the winner.
It all came down to a sprint, but the only sprinter that managed to survive the last climb with enough power in his legs was Julian Dean. Bbox dominated the sprint but in the last kilometer it all came down between Dean and Kirchen. Even though he wasn't the strongest sprinter, Kirchen proved to be the strongest in the end and took the stage win. Only 62 riders managed to finish in the leading group, Kloden and Brajkovic being the most important names that lost time today

For the next days we are going to ride in 4 races: Volta a Catalunya, Criterium International, E3 Prijs and Gent - Wevelgem. The next one up is E3 Prijs and this time all the big names are present, which didn't really happen so far in the cobbled classics. Boonen, Devolder, Pozzato, Cancellara, Nuyens, Ballan, Burghardt, Hincapie, Hoste and Gilbert are all here to challenge Flecha and Boasson Hagen, who so far got 1 respectively 2 wins in this type of races
In the main breakaway of the day there weren't any cobble specialists and they didn't last for too long. 75 kilometers before the finish, Rast and Gardeyn went away in what was a more important move than the previous breakaway. They had a max advantage of 2 minutes but they were eventually caught with 40 kilometers left by a group dominated by Quick Step
A few kilometers after Rast and Gardeyn were caught, Flecha attacked from the leading group. He managed to get quite easily away as the Quick Step riders, except Devolder and Boonen, didn't have a lot of energy left
After a few moments, a chasing group of 5 riders was made behind Flecha. Cancellara, Hoste, Gilbert, Nuyens and Boonen were there, but Flecha was already almost one minute and a half in front of them. Ballan, Devolder and Pozzato were caught in a second chasing group
Even though it was Cancellara who always pushed in the chasing group, it was Boonen who got away, on the penultimate hill of day, from the others and joined Flecha in front, who wasn't looking as strong as he looked when he made the attack. Nuyens couldn't keep it up with the chasers and he was caught by Ballan, Pozzato and Devolder who were now really close to join Cancellara's group
Flecha and Boonen passed the last cobbled section of the day with an advantage of 1 minute over the chasers which pretty much secured them the first 2 places today. But the bad news for Flecha is that Boonen kept pushing away on the cobbles and the Sky rider hardly kept it up with him
Devolder joined the chasing group on the cobbles and even got away from them in an attempt to join Boonen and Flecha in front, while Ballan and Pozzato were only a few seconds behind now
10 kilometers before the finish, Boonen flew away from Flecha, who had no chance to keep it up with the Belgian Champion. He had now to defend the second place in front of Devolder who was coming really fast, getting quite easily a gap in front of Cancellara and the others. Pozzato and Ballan joined the main chasing group, with the first one also getting away and Hose being the only one trying to keep it up with him
Boonen wins E3 Prijs and he looks settled for a 4th Paris - Roubaix win, but before of the that we have Gent - Wevelgem and Ronde van Vlaanderen. Flecha hanged on to the second place today, while Devolder rounded up the podium.

Today's the penultimate opportunity for riders like Cavendish, Freire or Farrar to save their race in Catalunya. So far, Valverde won the first mass sprint, while the second flat stage went to a winning breakaway
And it looks like today it's going the sprinter's way! The Sky train, made by Lovkvist, Downing and Vigano was the fastest, while the Rabobank one with Langeveld and Freire was also pretty close. Farrar and Cavendish were also following the Rabobank train, while Valverde was again trying to involve in the mass sprint
But Downing failed to launch Vigano properly and it was Farrar, who came from the Rabobank train, who took the lead. Freire was right after him, while Vigano and Cavendish were trying to keep it up as well
In the last kilometer of the stage, Freire took the lead from Farrar, while Vigano seemed to have secured the third place in front of Cavendish, Davis and Renshaw
Freire took the stage win, while Vigano not only that secured the podium, he also took the second place from Farrar in the last meters of the stage. Cavendish and Davis followed them to close the top 5, while Valverde had again a strong performance, finishing 10th, even though at the 1 km banner he was in the 7th position
There was also a crash in the pack in the final kilometers which involved around 10 riders, the biggest name being Jurgen Van den Broeck, who was 15th in the overall rankings. Contador didn't go down, but because of the crash he almost lost the contact with the pack. In the end he got the same time as Freire and there are no changes in the top 10 GC as we head into the final stage of the race
