My first real race back from my broken collarbone and the first one on my new bike. I finished 5th in the juniors criterium in San Jose, attacked 4 times then tried a lead out for my teamate(which turned into a 5 attack when I looked back to see my teamate wasn't on my wheel. I pretty much did everything except win but it was the most fun I have had in a long time. Then I did my elite category race and chilled at the back posing for photographers until the last lap when there was a crash which I dodged and moved up to 50th. I only raced to finish the second one.

I did a 10 mile TT today (the usual once per year affair), and smashed my PB of last year. At the end of last year - with aerobars on a standard road bike - i did a 24:59 time. Which i was pretty chuffed with. Managing to break 25 minutes for me was good. Today, i went out before the actual event an hour before because i couldnt actually do the event time, but close enough so i can compare times to the results, due to little change in the weather conditions. Basically i smashed/ripped/destroyed that old PB. I didn't use aerobars, just wore away 2mm of teeth enamel as i did a 23:42. An improvement of 1 minute 17 in a year. Not too shabby. Next week i'll be using the aerobars again. See if i can't knock a bit more time out of it.
10.1 miles - 00:23:42 - 25.57 mph / 41.15 kmph

Racing in american looks far better than over here, you have better road surfaces for sure, and much wider roads to use. I'm often racing along a road thats designed for one car, and there are four riders next to each other. Four riders who can't ride in a straight line. Four riders who often end up in a ditch/pile of brokenness.
I wish there were more town centre crits in the UK, as they are far more exciting for the crowds and racers.
Yes, only one ten mile TT a year usually. Mainly because i can't be bothered, and because im usually racing more.

Wow, not bad at all without bars! What is your course like? I actually looked up a TT time from May that was pretty hilly but same distance, but you got me by about a minute. Nice riding! |

The course record is 20:14 set by Richard Prebble on 4th May 1995.
The record since they started recording all the times on computer is 21:46 by Tim Wood (www.echelon-cycles.co.uk) on 15th June 2006.
So as you can tell, its a slow course, quite rolling.
The times from that night were standardly slow:
1
N.Biggs VC Montpellier 00:22:52
2
N.Slim Leisure Lakes RT 00:23:00
3
S.McArdle Cheltenham & County CC 00:23:40
4
J.Mansfield Cheltenham & County CC 00:23:46
5
S.Willis VC Montpellier 00:23:59
So i'd have come in 4th place had i actually done it

Hi Guys
Bit of help please.
Currently have a mountain bike but looking to trade in for a road bike.
I'm not a serious rider but would like to increase my riding after recent knee problems.
Want a good bike but not wanting to spend an obscene amount of money.
Anyone have any recommendations for me please?
(I'm UK based if that makes any difference at all?) |

Prices go up for UK - 1.2 is quoted as £500 on the Trek website, you'll be doing well to find it cheaper in the UK
EDIT: Cheapest Trek 1.2: https://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/id3917...39179.html
Just to help you show that we get ripped off over here B)

Find a good bike on the internet that you would like to purchased and you think you can afford, then go down to your local cyclist-mechanic/store, and ask what he could get it to you for, proberbly he would be able to get it for you at a good price and if something gets broken, it'll be easier to get him to fix it compared of internetstore.

You can get most road bikes with either a Triple gear (3 rings in front, 9-10 in back) or a Compact gear (2 rings in front, 9-10 in back). Note: Most high level bikes (as in full carbon) only come in a Compact format. |

I'm not sure if they have European listings, but at my shop we always tell people to go to Craigslist for used bikes. |
