Ithink that you have to rise the dificulty, because this season you even better roster than last year.
Wich difficulty are you playing with?

Squire
I always play on hard. The Tour of California is easy anyway, as I finished 1-2 in the GC the first season. The other riders are not in good shape that early in the year, and I targeted the race with Leipheimer.

I have a good roster, yes, but none of the new riders can win big races except maybe Kreuziger. I think I can get realistic results with hard difficulty, as I did last season.

Maybe I'll raise the difficulty next season if this one goes too well Smile

Don't think you should except if you dominate everything this season, but like you said, you got very realistic results last year and in enjoy it the way it is now. I want to see Lance in the rainbow jersey so come on with P-N! Pfft

08.03.2010: Paris - Nice

Stage 1
i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/profil1.png
Fontainebleau: 9.0km

Tactics meeting
The opening stage in Paris - Nice is more like a time trial than a prologue, with it's 9 kilometers. We don't bring any particular time trial specialists to France, but Armstrong should be able to get a good start to his campaign for the overall victory.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/1-1.png
The Swiss champion Fabian Cancellara took the lead early on.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/1-2.png
Tony Martin was one level above Cancellara today, taking a provisional lead by 6 seconds.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/1-3.png
Lance could do nothing with Martin's time. The veteran finished 9th, 12 seconds down on the German stage winner.

You must wait until the second stage.. He's not the time trial champion you know Pfft

Agree with what you say. I think the story is most exciting if the readers know there is a chance of winning, even if I don't always win, as is the situation with hard difficulty.

Stage 2
i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/profil2.png
Auxerre - Le Creusot: 197.0km

Tactics meeting
Stage 2 is a challenging 197km hilly stage. It's probably too hard for Ciolek to be present in the sprint, so we have to count on Armstrong or Popovych today. The downhill finish should suit Popovych's strengths. Ciolek will get his chance tomorrow.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-1.png
A breakaway went clear, but no big names were part of it. It was reeled in before the final climb.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-2.png
Sylvain Chavanel was the first to attack on the final hill, 20km from the finish.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-3.png
Several more attacks followed. Lance Armstrong went with Valverde when the Spaniard made his move.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-4.png
That was a wise thing to do, as Valverde and Armstrong got a lead of 30 seconds over the top. 16km remained of the stage.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-5.png
Andy Schleck was in the chasegroup with Discovery riders Hincapie and Popovych. They were closing in during the downhill.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-6.png
With 4km remaining, the chasegroup connected with Armstrong and Valverde. There were 15 riders one minute in front of the pack, but no sight of Tony Martin and his yellow jersey.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-8.png
On the run-in Armstrong led out the sprint. The only worry being, there were no Hincapie or Popovych on his wheel, just a strong-looking Alejandro Valverde.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/2-9.png
Valverde took the win easily, with Armstrong just getting 4th. All the 15 riders in the final breakaway got the same time, which gives Evgeni Petrov of Garmin - Slipstream the leader's jersey.

Stage 3
i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/profil3.png
Mâcon - Belley: 199.0km

Tactics meeting
For the first time under my leadership, Discovery will try to make a sprint train. Apart from a few hills in the beginning, the stage is dead flat. We'll make sure it ends in a bunch sprint, so Ciolek can get his chance.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/3-1.png
The Discovery train was set up really well, and George Hincapie was in front at the start of the sprint. Eisel and Ciolek were nicely tucked in behind him. The Liquigas guys were also going well. We had to watch out for Bennati.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/3-2.png
But suddenly Tom Boonen came from nowhere! He was fighting with Ciolek for the win.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/3-3.png
There was no contest. Boonen won it easily. Still a great result for Ciolek, who beat all non-superhuman riders quite comfortably.

Stage 4
i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/profil4.png
Grenoble - Gap: 222.0km

Tactics meeting
The last stage before the time trial is a long and tough one. Especially the first half of it. The downhill finish is yet another good one for Popovych, so we hope he does better than stage 2, which was also a Popo stage. Armstrong should have no problems keeping his GC position today, but we want a stage win, which our Ukrainian rider delivered in this race last year.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/4-1.png
Unfortunately, Yaroslav Popovych crashed on the long descent midway through the stage.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/4-2.png
He was paced back to the peloton by Ciolek, Eisel and Van Goolen, but he used so much energy that he would struggle to feature in the final.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/4-3.png
15 km from the finish, Sylvain Chavanel attacked on the flat.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/4-4.png
Shpilevski (Katusha) and overall leader Petrov (Garmin) tried to follow, but the Frenchman had a solid gap of 40 seconds.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/4-5.png
Chavanel's an excellent descender, and he held on to some of his lead until the finish.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/4-6.png
In the end he won the stage by 24 seconds over the peloton! Chavanel takes over the yellow jersey in the race which usually is his main event of the season. Second stage win in a row for the Quick-Step team.

Stage 5
i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/profil5.png
Gap - Gap: 31.0km

Tactics meeting
Apart from the mountain top finish tomorrow, this is the most important stage of the Paris - Nice 2010. The time trial has quite a nasty climb up to the second time check, which could do the climbers a favour. It should suit a rider like Valverde well. Lance Armstrong is one of the better time trialers in the race, so betting on him in yellow by the end of the day won't give you a lot of money.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-1.png
Young Rigoberto Uran set an early best time.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-2.png
Which the slightly older Thomas Lövkvist beat by 13 seconds.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-3.png
None of the early starters had any chance against the machine from Switzerland though. Fabian Cancellara powered through the time trial 1'19 faster than Lövkvist.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-4.png
The winner of the stage one time trial, Tony Martin of Columbia, could only get a provisional 2nd place, 36 seconds down.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-5.png
George Hincapie did a good ride. Big George came in 1'14 behind Cancellara, and held 3rd place so far.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-6.png
Our leader Lance Armstrong overtook Hincapie's 3rd place, but could do nothing about the two leaders Cancellara and Martin. Nevertheless, Lance was looking good for the yellow jersey.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/5-7.png
But Chavanel had other plans. The home favourite fought a great battle against the clock, and kept his yellow jersey by three seconds!

He sure is. It's too bad he's not contesting the classics, and he doesn't seem to target the overall in any small stage races either. He's just picking up time trial wins here and there. I think 5 of his 7 wins last season were time trials, the others were stage wins in Paris-Nice and Eneco Tour.

What a waste of an absolutely superb rider.

Stage 6
i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/profil6.png
St André les Alpes - Isola 2000: 168.0km

Tactics meeting
It's the queen stage, the only mountain top finish in the race. The last 30km are uphill. We're going to take the old-fashioned Discovery approach by tempo riding up the mountain and let Armstrong attack off the wheel of the last teammate. He will face a fight with Valverde for the overall win today. None of the two remaining stages after this one should provoke any big gaps.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-1.png
Well onto the final climb, with 12km remaining, the breakaway riders Pauriol and De La Fuente had 3 minutes over the main field. Morris Possoni of Columbia was just a little bit behind these two.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-2.png
In the peloton, our Discovery team didn't perform as expected. At the 10km mark, only Remy Di Gregorio was left to pace Armstrong. All our other climbers had disappeared. At least Popovych should have been there, but maybe he was hurting from the crash two days ago.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-3.png
2km later, Armstrong launched his attack! With 8km remaining, the breakaway in front had a 2 minute lead.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-4.png
Lance Armstrong never really got any big lead, only about 35 seconds. With 3km left to the top, overall leader Chavanel was about to brigde the gap. I really hadn't expected him to be so strong on the mountain.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-5.png
Chavanel joined Armstrong, while riders like Valverde were not far behind. The breakaway was not far in front, either.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-6.png
Armstrong had to gain time over Chavanel, so at 1.5km remaining, he kicked again as the Frenchman was joined by more riders coming up. The 30 second gap up to the breakaway seemed to be too tough to close, though.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-7.png
Remi Pauriol of Cofidis had left his two breakaway companions, and was on his way to a great mountain stage win.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-8.png
Armstrong didn't have the legs to get away with his attack. He was caught by Valverde as they approached the line. The two climbers caught Possoni (Columbia) just before the finish.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-9.png
Nobody could reach Pauriol, who even had time to celebrate his win.

i884.photobucket.com/albums/ac43/christian_gr/2010%20paris%20nice/6-10.png
Valverde took 2nd, with Armstrong and four others finishing in the same time as the Spaniard, including the yellow jersey. Chavanel had done a terrific race to defend his lead!

I just noticed that you are using 2010 shirts for most teams but your not using the Footon shirt. How come?

Squire
Because it's not Footon, it's Fuji. Pfft I'm using new shirts where the name permits, e.g. Saxobank, Quickstep and Cofidis. Teams like Columbia - High Road, Garmin or as you noticed, Fuji, should not have jerseys with another team name, I think. Maybe I change the team names if I play another season. Smile
