And another from my stable of bikes. 2012 Giant TCX Cyclocross that I built up from a bare frame I got of eBay with spare parts. In this pic she has her road tires on. Absolutely love riding this bike.

Gonna have my first Track riding experience in May.... at the Lee Valley VeloPark Cool Really looking forwards to a coached session, going with my Uni club. Looking for fun but also hoping it can kickstart my enjoyment of riding which i'm struggling to get back after injury.
Plus it will check off another 2012 Olympic venue for me. Done Box Hill (Road Race), Done Richmond Park (TT), Done Brands Hatch (Para-Cycling), Done Central London (Triathlon), Done Eton Dorney (Rowing), Done Weymouth (Sailing) and Done Copper Box (Handball).

My first track experience was interesting. Pfft I crashed 4 times, just because I was so scared about not being able to take my feet off the pedals or brake, it's not actually so bad when you think about it, but that was before I had the hang of my road bike, so not having brakes scared me. Pfft Personally the road is much better for me though. Smile I'm not in the slightest terms a sprinter. Wink

You'll absolutely love it! The track is great fun and once you get some confidence on the boards you can rip out some crazy speeds

First ride back after some horrid weather. Get 3ks down the road from home and l break a spoke on the back wheel, which then causes the wheel to buckle. Wasn't to fussed. Knew it would be a quick fix down at the bike shop. What l didn't realise is the pedals suddenly locked themselves up so they could't turn, so when l went to ride back home, as l pushed off and clipped in with my right foot, the pedals didn't move and l did a somersault over the handlebars. Not particularly fun.

I'm thinking about buying this bike.

You guys think it's good? I need some expert opinions since I'm a mountainbiker and thus don't have a lot of knowledge of racebikes.

I would say its enough. You don't need a highend racebike, if you just start cycling on the road. Of course lighter bikes giver an advantage, but in the end it comes down to the rider that rides it. You would never guess how often i get overtaken by people on mountainbikes or even on casual all-day bikes. The most important thing for me, is how the bike fits you and what Chainrings you have(f.e. a Compact front chainring, if you have more hilly terrain). I think, that most of us are not on a level, where we need those 200g less weight.

All in all, I would say, that Trek is a quality producer and that there are cheaper bikes out there, f.e. the Specialized Allez. I would suggest, if possible, to go to a local shop(if you have one) and test out some bikes. F.e. I once had a BMC Grandfondo. I loved it, but I also tried out a Bulls bike and a Cube. But I decided for the BMC, since it felt better to me, whilst everyone I know told me to choose the Bulls bike, since those bikes are pretty much awesome. What I want to say is, that it depends on you, if you like it or not.

Thanks mate, appreciate the advice. I know there are cheaper ones, but this is one of the few with Tiagra and not Claris. I think for €700 the Trek bike is a good buy. Most bikes around 500-600 euros are Shimano Claris, for a bit more money I can have Shimano Tiagra, which is better according to the experts Pfft.

I've done a session on Manchester Velodrome a couple of times. It's good fun.

Did some riding this weekend on roads I hadn't done before. 4 Strava KoMs and a bunch of Top 10s Cool One of them I've now gone tied 1st on a hill with speed bump segment that I created a while back, but lost the KoM a couple of months ago. The person who took it clearly then created a new segment just for the steep part of the climb, and I beat him outright on that Pfft

Since I'm more of a runner than a cyclist, I don't spend too much time on the bike. However, as strenght training, how long intervals do you reccomend when doing low-cadence reps of 40-60rpm?

I've read people advicing anything from 3x6minutes to 3x15min. My knees are a bit iffy right now so squats is out of the question for now.

Shimano goes like this
11 sp Dura Ace, Ultegra, 105
10 sp Tiagra
9 sp Sora
8 sp Claris
Tiagra is a big step up from Claris, 10 speed compared to 8 which means better cross compatibility if you want to upgrade along the way, I have sampled the Tiagra (basically the 5600 105 shifters) and it shifts very well and durability is quite good from what I have heard.
That Trek would serve you well and warranty wise if something goes wrong with the frame you should be covered, another bike around that price range should be a Giant Defy but not sure if it would be Tiagra equipped. It certainly is worth spending the extra $ getting the Trek

What paintwork did it come with? I really like the Cube road bikes myself, friend who works in a bike shop let me test ride one a little while back and it was a great ride, it was in black & green and just looked cool.

Well... that depends on if you want a general answer or something more tailored to your situation, fitness levels and competition status. The variation in advice could be put down to differences in opinion and\or the principle of individuality; since workouts need to be tailored to the individual for both safety reasons and to ensure the threshold required to induce adaption is crossed (principle of overload).

I am going to ride the Hadeland/Ringerike Gp next weekend anyway! I am really looking forward to it, as I was sick last year. I haven't ridden much in the army until now, so I will definitely not fight for a result, but I have been running a lot and my shape is good, so I hope to follow the peloton as long as I can. Wish me good luck! Smile

Good luck Nils Erik, always nice to hear from your races so I hope for a nice report. Smile

As for interval training; Not much experience with low cadence, however 3x15min sounds to me like it isn't much interval training actually and denies a bit the purpose of intervals. Even with low cadence I imagine it's best to make shorter intervals but actually end up with more and make them tougher?
