This was a really big win for Menchov and you could tell he was rightly chuffed with the win. Great win - really confirms those previous Vuelta wins - I think this was a real tough one to beat Di Luca in his form.
When Di Luca was 5 seconds up after the first check - I think my eyes popped out of my head I was like whaaa... But Menchov rode cool - just like he did when he was defending in other stages or riding that brutish 60km time trial in the middle.
A classic battle of a punchear against the power climber - with the sub plot of Sastre and the Liquigas duo a little up the road buzzing around.
As I said previously Astana - Lampre both flopped somewhat - I hear some of the Astana bunch were displeased with the final time trial. Now I am not Astana bashing here - but when I saw Leipheimer and Armstrong tiptoeing round the course I thought to myself come on guys try and get a good result at the end your great TTers you could win this stage. I mean look at Popo and Brajkovic - they went for it and got top 10 finishes.
As ever - we all can have suspicions about drugs scandels (especially with those previous) regarding most of the protagonists - its not going to go away. It would be niave to think its only French, Spanish and Italian riders who have been doping as has been commented on elsewhere - lets not string up the likes of Di Luca, Garzelli, Scarponi, Basso, Petacchi I say chapeau to them for giving such a great race.
Onto to dauphine and the Tour de Suisse and then the showdown in the Tour De France - can't wait. |

Without fall Menchov would have gotten the stage win as well.
Without Sprick crashing infront of him, Wiggins would have won the stage. |

That is why I said that it would only happen if Menchov crashed badly, not just a normal crash like today's.

His reaction was great, especially taking it was Denis Menchov who led it out this way. That's not very usual.
Great Giro, thought for a second Di Luca could rob Menchov after the first time check, but Menchov is the deserved winner here. Also I've won a great deal of respect for Di Luca during these three weeks, inspite of all the shit surrounding him as a sportsman, he is incredible.

Somehow, 4 of the riders in the top 20 still found a way to be tied on GC 2 vs 2

Great end to a very exciting race, not the outcome I would've liked, but there you go...
I was a bit disappointed that Eurosport didn't show the podiums
Edit: Also, Gilbert & Voeckler 1-2 yesterday! |

Ok..Giro is over..and I am a little tyred off Ruben and Alexkr00 Menchov hype..
Why fans always should make ok rider abominable for me?
Feelings : Menchov takes Giro lead (ok fine..someone will beat Levi)..
Week later: Please Di Luca (I dont like him) beat that Menchov to shut up those guys.
I am not even start with Hagen..damn Norweign fans you have destroyed great classy ..young rider reputation.

yeah but some people were talking just about crashing.
Anyway he got the win in the end and that's what matters. But if he would crashed badly... I don't want to think about that

Not just nice, but GREAT video. It is very rare you can see in film the team spirit of cyclists as it is such a unique sport where team works together, but a single rider wins. |

If he had fallen in the early parts of the stage, I think the consequences would have been far greater. Because it was so late, he got to the finishline on pure adrenaline, and didn't feel any pain or stiffness from the fall, but this could have been a problem if he had like 10k left.

not really pain, I think that the fear to push too hard in order not go down again, if he would have crashed earlier

Well, he would have lost his rythm, which would most definetely cost him time, and whether or not he is in pain, he would get a bit stiff.
