just watch out for Peter Velits, U23 world champion 2007, 12th at Tour de Switzerland, today he was better than kreuziger, gerdemann, knees, perreiro...
he is one of the men for next years for sure...

Also LOL@Gerdemann's result.
I hate that pretentious sniveling self-appointed-best-rider-ever asshat who stops at nothing to win. He's screwed over so many people to get his career to rise that it's just too funny to see him fail
That, plus he was a below average prospect until he started working with Checchini and suddenly went from half-decent climber to great time triallist/stage racer. I don't like dopers. Much less the very obvious ones. |

As far as the main contendors are concerned the first mountain stage really just sorted out who were the pretenders.
The man to beat: Alberto Contador (and his Astana brigade)
The contenders (finishing 21 seconds behind Conta):
Cadel Evans ( at 3 minutes)
Andy Schleck (at 1 and 3/4 minutes)
Frank Schleck (at 2 and 1/3 minutes)
Denis Menchov (at 5 minutes!)
Carlos Sastre (at 2 minutes 50)
Leipheimer/Armstrong (30 secs/2 secs)
Brad Wiggins/Vandevelde (at 40 seconds and 1 min 20 secs)
Vlad Karpets (at 3 mins 40 secs)
Tony Martin (at 50 secs)
Nibali (at 1 min 50 secs)
The pretenders (finishing 1 minute and more back from Conta):
Astaloza (grinder, will probably still make top 10!)
Efimkin (top 10 last year - will he have to work for Nocentini?)
Leon Sanchez (Caisse's GC hopes probably up in flames)
Kirchen (still coming back to best form i guess - still not really a contendor)
Kreuzinger (big disappointment)
Gerdemann (see previous posts)
Pererio (did he really win a tour)
Devolder (never a grand tour man)
Cancellara (ok stupid commentators only)
Rogers (in grupetto!) |

Rogers crashed today 30 km from the finish, I guess he said "oh fuck it" and dropped back to the gruppeto

He has lost 8 kg and has started training only on the road |

Yep, and he climbed well in the Giro, especially on stages 4 and 5, and in the Cinque Terre TT. |

Yeah, I thought he was climbing on top form in the Giro... Even at that level he had improved massively...
I was just as amazed as everybody else yesterday. Although I already knew that he was better, I didn't know that he had improved that well.

Wiggins was for some reason very angry after the stage today, which is a very strange reaction to doing such a fantastic ride.
Several favorites were extremely angry that Contador attacked with the help of the draft of the motorcycles for about 2kms, which is conducive to a penalty, yet the ASO did nothing.
Andy Schleck was very, very angry with it. Riis said that they wouldn't complain, because it wouldn't change anything anyway
