Groenewegen managed to make up 13 points after the intermediate sprint, where Matthews didn't participate, which was won by Dylan, followed by Laporte, behind a 3 men breakaway.
Drama would unfold in the last kilometers of the stage as there was a major crash in the pack as we went into the tunnel for the last time. Among those that crashed: Michael Matthews. Although this would probably not effect the GC, it will certainly put Bling's green hopes in doubt
It's not how they would have wanted this to unfold, but none of his rivals are going to pass up on this opportunity. Jumbo lead heading into the last corner, but EF are doing an impressive job with their train as well
Grosu left Groenewegen in an ideal position in the final kilometer, but the Dutch rider did not have the legs to keep up with the other sprinters. It was Laporte who accelerated in the last meters to take his second stage win of the race and with it the green jersey as well!

Primoz Roglic and Jumbo to part ways
After two second places at the Giro d'Italia, Roglic will look for his maiden Grand Tour victory in another team. The Slovenian will be riding for Deceuninck - Quick Step starting next year. It's interesting to see exactly what the his's role will be in the team though given that they also announced the signing of the riders that accompanied Primoz on the Giro podium this year: Dumoulin and Lopez.
Replacing Roglic at Jumbo will be Pavel Sivakov. The young Russian rider has showed some very promising skills in the last couple of years, but due to Ineos incredible set up, he rarely had the chance to ride for himself and shine at his true power. The team believes he has what it takes to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Denis Menchov and be victorious in Grand Tours.

Wow, I was thinking Sivakov would be a Menchov type replacement and and then I read further and you mentioned it. Hopefully he does well, maybe you could look for an Oscar Freire too Quickstep are going to be crazy strong next year though. Kind of crazy that those 3 riders are going to be on one team.

Yeah. It's quite insane. I just got one of those e-mails that Deceuninck will increase their budget for next year and then went to check on the transfer page to see this. But it doesn't stop there. They also got Ackermann (top 3 sprinters in the game) Naesen (tied for best cobbler with Van Aert) and Fuglsang. It's insane.
They have a 5 star index rating for next season. "At least" they let Woods and Viviani go.

Quite a lot of Jumbo rider managed to survive the last climb of the day in the main group. Among them: Eduard Michael Grosu. Van Baarle and Van Aert took control of the race as soon as the last flat section of the race was reached
Van Aert did an amazing lead-out for Grosu, who also had Roglic looking after his back wheel, and nobody in the group came even close to matching their speed. This resulted in a fantastic result for the team as they took all the places on the podium with the Romanian champion taking the win

Given his current condition, Groenewegen opted not to defend his title. Instead it was Danny Van Poppel who came here as Jumbo's leader, but having rode his last race at the National Champions, he was clearly off the beat.
Despite a good team work, Van Poppel was not able to compete for the podium today, with Michael Matthews taking a consolation prize after losing the green jersey at the Tour in dramatic fashion as he took quite a comfortable win today.

This year's edition of the Tour de Pologne kicked off with two mountain stages and ended with quite a long time - trial which made it a race for Grand Tour riders.
Kruijswijk carried onto his Tour form and took the win in both mountain stages. The second stage also brought him the GC win as he managed really put the hammer down and create some serious gaps between the favorites are they were spread across the road.
Victories don't come often for Kruijswijk so he made sure he enjoyed these

Thanks. I'm thinking about doing some sort of challenge with him and try to win the KoM jersey in the other Grand Tours too.

Are you going for a podium as well, to see how he will cope with that at a GT?

Sadly, I don't think he has what it takes to run a successful GC in a Grand Tour, as show in last year's Vuelta where he even dropped out of the top 10 towards the end.

Despite a very rough team time - trial, where Jumbo missed the top 10 in the stage, Danny Van Poppel would move into the leader's seat after the 5 stage with an impressive record: never finishing lower than 2 in the individual stages.
The last would prove to be very difficult and defending the leader's jersey was no easy task. But with the fantastic team work from Van Aert and Van Baarle, who kept the gap that Kristoff had managed to make on the cobbled hills at minimum. Kristoff was not able to catch the last one of the escapees and him missing on the extra bonus seconds sent the overall win Van Poppel's way.

Tricky flat finishes and plenty of hills made it for some very entertaining racing in Norway. Cofidis seemed to have trouble deciding who should be their leader. And having made the decision earlier might have just brought them the overall win.
Chaves won the queen stage, but some time lost due to bad positioning in the previous stages meant he was out of contention for the overall win. Magnus Cort was one of the two riders that joined Chaves at the top of the finishing climb and he moved into the overall lead. He lost it in the next stage, before gaining it back with a fantastic attack in the final stage of the race.
Cort ended his race in style

And everyone delivered, from chasing the breakaway, to the sprint train, to Teunissen's final sprint which he won in front of Van Aert to bring Jumbo the first two places in the race.
The rain did not seem to bother Jumbo

Roglic is set to lead what might very well be his last race for the team. But with this being the last Grand Tour of the season, it's hard to say who will be able to keep up a good form throughout the race. The freshest one of our GC riders is definitely De Plus, having raced only a little over a week in Italy.
Chris Froome seemed happy to give leadership over to Thomas at the Tour de France? But will he do the same at the Vuelta? I don't think so. And then there's Bernal, the only one of the big riders for whom the Vuelta is the only Grand Tour of the season. He surely have been preparing this race very well.
Lopez came very close to winning the race last year, but with two Grand Tours already under his belt this season it's hard to see him improving on last year's result.
Unlike last year, Dumoulin took a break from the Tour de France and could be looking at the Giro - Vuela double as a response to the Tour - Vuelta double Froome did last year.

The Mitchelton duo of Nibali and Quintana are riding their 3rd Grand Tour of the season. Despite being the first team to start today, their team - mates brought them not only in safety to the finish line but with a decent time too: 15 minutes 3 seconds
Tom Dumoulin did a fantastic job of leading his team today, as they smash Mitchelton's time: 16 seconds faster. Dumoulin surely must have his eye on finally winning the race that opened up his appetite for Grand Tours
Led by the world time - trial champion and fresh Tour de France winner and Chris Froome, last year's red jersey winner, Ineos failed to beat Sunweb's time, but they came very close: 2 seconds slower. Same time as Movistar
Jumbo did well today, but not well enough to get on the stage podium. De Plus led the team to finish line as they finish in fourth, 5 seconds behind Sunweb

Completely flat stage for the second stage of La Vuelta. And we are on for a mass sprint. Jumbo are there to set up things for Van Poppel. UAE are putting up a great fight though, they are most definitely hoping Gaviria can bring here the same type of success he brought in Il Giro
We had a very close finish between the four strongest sprinters in the race and it was indeed UAE's Gaviria who repaid the excellent work of his team - mates with a victory

No KoM jersey has been awarded for the first two stages of the Vuelta, but today we will finally get one. And it will be a real one as Jack Haig will take the jersey after winning both of the first category 1 climbs
Simon Yates and Laurens De Plus got away from the pack on the last climb of the day. Yates was strong enough to push one last time before the summit to leave De Plus behind, who was caught by another group of attackers on the downhill
Simon Yates held on to take the win, but did not get a gap big enough to win time as well. His brother, Adam finished second, while the bonus seconds for the third place put De Plus at top of the overall rankings, with no Sunweb rider present in the leading group

Didnt get the stage win, but moving into the GC lead is nice. Roglic doesnt look at his best right now, or is he still waiting to peak?
