Of course I wasn’t included in this one, so I will just give you the results. After training me and a few of the other riders from the team went to the course to watch it, but it didn’t go very well for the Danish riders. I hope I can do something about that in three days.

Jonas’ Corner
- World Championships Special II
The day after the time trial we were off on our normal training programme. I have never ridden a circuit as much as I have ridden this one. But I want to keep do it. I want to know every little rock and every little whole in the road, eventhough I don’t think there are any. I want to know how to cut each bend perfectly and above I know where I want to be on the home stretch.
I have never been as focused as I have been these six days since returning from that race in France, which I have forgotten totally about by the way, because I’m so determined not to have anything else on my mind but to pull off the perfect race here in Copenhagen. It will probably be the only time in my career I have an opportunity like this. To race in the World Championships in my home country. I’m starting to imagine how Ballan might have felt last year. This year it’s going to be me.
It’s unfortuneate that it’s already this season that the Worlds are held on Danish soil, because I would have liked a few more season to grow even stronger. But this is where it’s at and I have to deal with it.
I recieved a lot of phone calls on September 27, the day before the Day. A lot my old team-mates from GLS called me to wish me luck and also a lot of my current team-mates from High Road. Those who weren’t at the World that is. I don’t think the ones who are want me to win ahead of them.
Tomorrow is the day I have been looking forward to for almost a year now and there’s no doubt it’s going to be the biggest day of my cycling career. I have though so much about this day so long now. During the spring season I didn’t want to ride too hard so I wouldn’t have any power left in September. My whole year has been focused on riding a great road race at the World Championships and tomorrow I’m going to find out just how strong I am.

2009 World Championships in Copenhagen – Road Race
It’s here. The most anticipated day of my short cycling career. I will never get a chance like the one I have today ever again. I have the chance to win one of the most sought after jerseys in the world of cycling. I have been training so much and thinking so much about this day for so long that I haven’t stopped to think if I’m even capable of wining, or even capable of competing with the best professional cyclists. Surely the season I have had has given me the confidence needed and especially my victory back in May in Rund Um Den Henninger confirmed that I’m strong enough to win the Rainbow colours at some point, so why not today. I feel a bit more seasoned after Tour of Poland and it’s like I’m in the same state of mind like riders as Bettini and Greipel when I’m out on the road. So mentally I’m ready. My physical condition is great aswell. It’s hard to get in peak condition at this point of the season having raced since January, but I’m so close to my peak that it is going to feel like I am at my actual peak. I have made the perfect preparations. Now it’s time for me to execute my plans.
The race has a total of 285 kilometres and it is raced on a circuit of exactly 23,8 kilometres, which the peloton will go around a total of 12 times. It’s the longest race of my career ever, I was a terrified by that thought.
A break of 7 got away in the early stages. We had Niki Østergaard in it. Riding with him were Jonathan Bellis (GBR), John Devine (USA), Karsten Kroon (HOL), José Ivan Gutierrez (SPA), Uros Murn (SLV) and Romain Feillu (FRA).
Their gap to the pack topped at 13 and a half minutes with 130 kilometres to go. At this point, France and Germany moved to the front, working for their captains Mathieu Drujon and André Greipel. Meanwhile I was wrapped up by team-mates.
My legs weren’t good today but not bad either, and I know I’m in great shape so I was feeling confident as I was sitting comfortably in the pack as riders began dropping off. Kyle Gritters, Alex Rasmussen and Mark Cavendish was among the ones to do so. With still about 100 kilometres to go. That sounds a bit like me at the World last season. Not this year though, I felt like just taking off, but I knew that would kill of my chances so I didn’t do anything. The plan was to wait for some of the other favourites like Cancellara and Gusev to go and then counter. I felt like I could take anyone in the sprint. Guys like Freire, Boonen and Hushovd would be no match today.
With just over two laps remaining Flecha attacked and quickly jumped across to some of the breakaway riders, who were split up at this point. Feillu had gone solo and Niki and Bellis were dropped by the others. Flecha made contact with Devine, Kroon, Gutierrez and Murn after entering the last but final lap. But he was slowed down by them and he was quickly caught again. Feillu was the last from the break to be reeled in with 30 kilometres to go.
Entering the final lap of the 2009 World Championships I had made my way to the front of the pack. If anyone moved I would be on their tails right away.
I waited and I waited for quite a few kilometres but no-one were liking the prospect of taking off on the relatively flat route and go for a solo win. I just stayed near the front and entering the finale I grabbed Hushovd’s wheel at the front of the pack. I was in a great position and I was going to smoke Hushovd, I had no doubt. France led the pack into the sprint.
But then out of the blue as we were going up the final small rise the defending champion Ballan attacked with a powerful move. I countered him right away with a Dutchman trying to bridge up aswell.
I had no problems keeping up with Ballan, but as I looked back I could see the pack right up my alley, I didn’t have gap yet, In fact I only had a very slim lead over the pack right before the sprint.
The pack was stretched out though so my hopes were that none of the really strong guys would be right behind me. So I opened up the sprint I have prepared for a year now.
But I had a very fast guy in my wheel, Bernhard Eisel was locked in on my wheel. Having used a lot of energy on the attack there was no way I could hold the Austrian off and blew past just as I could eye the finish line. There goes the Rainbow colours.
A lot of thoughts flashed through my head in a fraction of a second. I wanted to just stop sprinting because Eisel was definitely going to win this. But I quickly came to my senses and tried to make my way into the lane of Eisel to at least come away with a silver medal. Drujon and my High Road teammate Greipel were coming up on me. I was losing out on the podium aswell. But with a last-ditch effort and the lactate making my legs numb I kept pedalling and just managed to hold off Drujon to take a silver medal.
I rode up to Eisel and congratulated him on the win, but I could feel nothing but dissapointment.
I recieved a lot of pads on the back from a lot the other riders in the pack but I didn’t really sensed it. I was in my own place dominated by frustration until I was called up on the podium, where I recieved my Silver Medal in front of my home crowd. At that point all the frustrations were gone and then it occured to me. I have won a frickin’ Silver Medal at the frickin’ World Championships in Denmark!

Yeah if I want to. Because of the Worlds position in the calendar you can easily win it with a 75 hill rider in peak condition. It's all about form.

Yeah, maybe it will be boring for you to plan a new season almost like the season your playing now.
It will be fun to see JAJ in a GT if he is going to ride one of them next year.

The Giro. A_Schleck is subconsciously pouring out his man love of Andy Schleck by having Jonas follow andy's career path.

Paris – Tours
We are very close to the end of the season now. The team has just four races left. This one and Sun Herald Tour, which is underway as we speak and then Milano-Torino and Giro di Lombardia where I’ll take part in both and I will one of the favourites for those two races as I’ve come out of the Worlds in great form and with a silver medal in my suit case. The dissapointment is gone and I will be back there next year. Hopefully the route will be a bit tougher.
Our captain for this race was Greipel, but things didn’t really turn out the way they should. Long story short, an attack from Flecha and Breschel caught everyone by surprise as they attacked with 20 kilometres left of the race and never looked back. Breschel never caught up with Flecha though and had to settle for 2nd.
Now I’m off to Italy to finish off my season in style.
