That is sad, but success and Rabobank were the opponents for the long time in cycling.

Waking up this morning, and the first news I read is that Rabobank stops sponsoring the professional mens and womens teams....... Fock!
I'm currently waiting for the press conference (broadcasted live at Dutch television) to find out why eactly. But I can't help having the feeling that "they know more than we do" Else you don't make the decision to "fire" more than 50 cyclists and other team members.
And why also the womens team? They have never beenlinked to doping, not even because of the world domination by Marianne Vos....
Luckily they continue their sponsorship with the offroad (mountain bike and cyclocross) team, as well as the other cycling projects, also BMX.
10 more minutes before the press conference starts....

Real classy Rabobank, announce youre not continuing next year .. on October 19th. Nice way to screw over a load of riders and team staff, if they now have to hunt for other teams when there is no space left.
You've read my mind, one of my thoughts as well.....

It seems they will honour the contracts, presumably going to ride in a plain kit next season
Bizarre that they end the Women's team aswell though, considering that theyre keeping various others.

It is a risky sport to be attached to and with all the Armstrong press of late which has hinted at things in Rabobank's past that can't be good for business.
Just goes to show why we really need revenue sharing from TV takings - greater stability and less reliant on business decisions.

Rabobank doesn't believe cycling is fair and clean. Of course as a bank, they know all about that.. |

The case against Barredo probably has something to do with it as well.

As mentioned before, the riders will keep their contracts for next year. Rabobank won't be visible on the shirt, however they will keep to their contract. |

just saw the press confrence: long story short,
the don't belive that the sport can get clean on it's own.
and for the rabo crew: by contract law they still finance the crew till 2016 (end of contract), the crew just isn't riding with the rabobank name... |

Rabobank's main reason is actually they don't trust the UCI anymore in keeping the sport clean, because of what's happened in the past..
Dumb reason but understandable. Past is past... but I can get you don't trust the UCI. Hell, who does? |

Its aa tactic. Its a tactics vs the uci. If sponsors start dropping cos the uci is corrupt, they cant just go 'we cant stop doperrs' and make out is not there problem. |

Rabo stop sponsoring the mens and womesn team because of the image of cycling in relation to doping... but keep sponsoring MTB which is much worse?

If Rabobank thinks that cycling is not a pure and honest sport, they should have stopped sponsoring 10 years ago. Now the young guys are getting punished for something they don't know anything about. Like Lars Boom, Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema |

Their investment there compared to the road teams would be miniscule. Assuming even reasonable levels their mens and women's teams probably cost 12-13 million combined (just guessing, I'd be interested if anyone knew the exact figures). The MTB team probably costs under a million and because it is followed less and definitely has a much lower media profile so any doping suspensions there are far less likely to harm the brand.

Interesting. Do you have a source for that, because I'd like to read it? I was just going off ~11 million for a strong men's team and ~1 million for a women's team.

I would not be so optimistic that doping is the thing of the past, we have still riders caught and still many strange results also these days.
