francopell: Thanks
JuanMotr: Thanks, much appreciated.
TimoCycling: You read his biography, too?
Wild Dog: Thanks
Daggen: Yeah I've thought about that. But my English isn't good enough for being an English author. I could write in Dutch, but then the public is quite limited Thanks for the compliment! |

Paris - Nice 2013 - Stage 4/5
I'm incredibly happy, what a performance!
- Robert Kiserlovski 07/03/2013 -
The first mountain stage of Paris - Nice. The first battle between El Pistolero and Cannibal 2.0!
Contador fell mid-race, fortunately for him, no team decided to use it against him.
Contador certainly came back, and when the altitude started going upwards, he launched an attack. Roberto was sticking to his wheels.
One man was still up ahead, Contador and Roberto joined him just before the sprint. That man was Kiserlovski.
Both men looked at each other and Kiserlovski took profit from it. He took a deserving stage win, while Roberto won the duel against Contador.

The General Classification was finally getting into shape, and the best were on top, with a mere 19 seconds separating them. It proved to be a beautiful battle yet to come... |

TimoCycling: They'll definitely battle it out in the next stage
Jakstar22: Let's hope the mountain TT is in favor for Roberto. He doesn't like TTs but a mountain one is still different.
JuanMotr: Maybe he could've won, yeah But all he cared about was Contador so he stuck to his wheel quite long and only sprinted away from him in the final 400m |

Paris - Nice 2013 - Stage 6
With only 19 seconds between Contador and Roberto, this proved to be a very exciting day.
The two enemies were riding side by side the entire race, not letting each other out of their sights.
On the hill close to the finish, Contador decided to act, try to increase his lead.
Meanwhile, One breakaway rider was still out there, certain of the win, Tschopp.
A small group, containing El Pistolero and Cannibal 2.0, were headed towards the finish, sprinting for some boni seconds.
And it was El Pistolero who made it, with a few inches!
Roberto Velásquez:
It was a hard day, Saxo Bank layed a hard pace all day long. I didn't have any energy left in the sprint. Contador is just so strong, if I want to beat him here, I'll have to come up with something fast!

Paris - Nice 2013 - Stage 7
The previous day, Roberto had said he needed to come up with something fast. And he had...
It was strange, Roberto moving up way to the front with 42km left to go.
But only seconds later everyone knew what was up: Roberto Velásquez was attempting one of the greatest solos in years to grab the GC. With 41km left to go, Roberto was off, with a long road ahead of him.
It was mostly climbing and descending, and Saxo Bank was unable to bridge the gap.
Victory for Roberto Velásquez! His second of the season. His attempt to grab the win had been a major success.

Only the time trial was left. When I was following Paris - Nice in those days, I was going crazy. Roberto was becoming a hero, truly a cycling legend. I had the fortune of asking Roberto about his win:
Well, I needed to do something. Contador is impossible to shake, so I had to go from far out, when he wouldn't even try to stick to my wheels. I'm very happy with this victory, it was very hard near the end, I was really dying there. So now I hope I can perform well tomorrow, and wrap this race up! |

Paris - Nice 2013 - Stage 8
The time trial to Col d'Eze, which had been the finish for Paris - Nice for many years, between the 60s and the 90s. They had it re-installed in 2012 and again it would be the finish of the race, still going strong today.
We were unable to recover official pictures, they seemed to have been lost. However, we have the result and we have been able to track down a fan who still had digital pictures of that day. On one of those pictures we see Roberto climbing in his yellow shirt.
