Has Purito perhaps peaked too early again?
I doubt it. This is just not Purito's terrain.
This is more his terrain

If Valverde takes second place, Rodriguez could take it back on final mountain stage, I think.
Depends maybe Rodriguez can have other problems at Bola del Mundo (final mountain) and so Valverde can take the second place... |

Contador attacked in the 2nd cat climb with 50km to go. Valverde and RodrÃguez tried to follow, but they couldn't get him, and he got help of some team mates he had in the breakaway. He opened a gap on a Purito who refused to work until it was late, and by then he was mentally defeated.

Contador escaped on small climb, More than 40km out I think (didn't see the whole thing). Rodriguez died and will be third and Valverde now rode away from Rodriguez, going to Contador. |

Contador went in a break with 50km to go. Rodriguez and Valverde formed a group behind Contadors group. With 23km to go Conta attacked and went alone, the gap increased to 2.15 before Valverde attacked. Rodriguez tried to hang on, but blew up.
The rest is epic history.

The craziest thing is that Purito actually hasn't lost much to Contador on the climb. Like 10 seconds.
It's just Valverde who's amazing today.
