There's so many posts in this thread that you've made, in the past few days, that I feel I could just go "this" to, and this is one of them

I very, very much doubt anyone is willing to be "the new Hinault" (not that anyone would overlook Hinault's achievements - don't get me wrong).
I still don't get it a decade later, but even back in the days when cycling was hype (pre-Festina), very few of my mates had a clue about pro cycling or pro cyclists. Yes, they'd all hear about Jalabert or Virenque, but Hinault ? They probably knew he was a guy from the past, who'd win a couple of TDF, but that's it. Couldn't tell anything about his other achievements, etc. And that was about half way between Hinault's retirement and nowadays...
As mentioned in the article, the guy is a cat. 3. Amateurs are divided in 3 categories of racers, plus 2 leisure categories that can take part in races under some conditions. Cat. 1 are the strongest, I'm not sure how many there are, but probably around 2 500 or 3 000. Cat. 2 must have about twice those figures, and Cat. 3 is "the rest", probably as many as Cat. 2, probably even a little more.
No way such a guy would have ever stood a chance to turn pro in a random shitty pro team, even doping aside. |

You are right; but for me Hinault is the best French cyclist all time. In my opinion he's the one who came closest to Merckx. If you know something about cycling you have to know what Hinault did. I don't know if the French would rate Jaja and Virenque above Hinault... I think it has something to do with the media. In my opinion: how bigger the attention in the media, how less a rider has to perform to be forever in the mind of cycling-fans. I now think of Voeckler. What Voeckler did was enlarged 10X by the media. If Hinault cycled now and did what he did. He would stay forever in people's memory.
Roelandts has to wear a bandage for 6 weeks; he said he escaped something much worse.

Both Roelandts and Monier are very lucky to be alive, I hate it when a cyclist breaks something around the head or lands on their head now, a little part of me fears the worst ever since the Giro.
But Im so glad they are both on the mend

Forest of Arenberg in danger of being left out of Paris-Roubaix
That wouldn't be great, hope they can fix the problems in time.

Yes but there is a point at which you have to consider what is best for the riders. It is like those people who wanted the Giro to ride down the Monte Crostis, despite the fact that there were no railings in some of the worst sections.

No. The Crostis was safe, and even the riders admitted so. It was taken out of the race because the DSs were afraid that if they weren't babysitting their riders the whole way to Zoncolan they could start crying and lose.

I was about to write that
BUT: they only signed for 2 more years, until december 2014

Aranberg can't be taken out, it's iconic, when I think Paris Roubaix, Aranberg springs straight to mind

Added one year to more
Also Greg Van Avermeat signed 2 year extension deal with BMC.

Ste117 if my memory serves correct I think Arenberg was taken out of few versions of Roubaix for repairs, so it wouldn't be the first time I think. Although still, it would be a bit 'shit', but they can definitely make the route interesting even without it.

I don´t understand why van Avermeat extended, he could find a team were he´s the captain. At BMC he´ll be Nr.2 after Gilbert.

Some riders prefer to be number 2 than to be the team's leader. They can race without the pressure.

In the classics though, if Gilbert attacks and gets brought back then he can go. Great opportunity if he is aware enough. |

Anyway, BMC will be a huge force in the spring classics. Gilbert, Ballan, Hushovd, Hincapie, Burghardt, Van Avermaet and Evans (if he rides any) So this could be a great opportunity for Van Avermaet to win a big race, like Vansummeren did last year. |

Doubt Evans will ride any in any kind of form, he already wants to go for the Tour, Olympics and Worlds.

True, that's also a big classic (I already forgot he won it ).
Though, I was referring to the spring classics in my previous post.
