Stage 5 : La Seu d´Urgell - Torredembarra
After an amazing stage final yesterday by Contador and Armstrong we´re expecting another great sprint final today. The stage is predominantly flat so of course we hope that Goss can show his sprint ability there
This time the game didn´t crash but I´ve got some problems with the replay of this stage so again I´ve no screenshots, sorry for that. The stage wasn´t really spectacular! The escapes were in front for a long time but with 23 kilometres to go they were brought back to the peloton.Goss had some problems today and so it was up to Rabon who was still in the first part of the pack.He took the backwheel of Oscar Freire but he couldn´t hang on and so he became 8th in the end.The finish in front was closer between Ciolek,Traksel,Bennati,Cooke and Freire.Traksel was in front but then came Ciolek on the left side with a lot of speed and power and so the young German could get his stage win for Team Milram in front of Bobbie Traksel and Daniele Bennati

Stage 6 : Torredembarra - Barcelona
The 6th stage is the next flat one.We have to expect a mass sprint, maybe Goss can keep it up with the best today
Vazquez was in front of a small chasing group. He could get 22 KoM points today so he will get the jersey tomorrow
Behind him was a small chasing group with Saramotins but they were all caught with more than 25 kilometres to go
With only 7,5 kilometres to go Goss was still looking for the best positiion while other teams already had their sprint trains
It looks like Goss cannot sprint for the best positions,he has no energy left!
On the left side comes Vacansoleil with Traksel while Ciolek and Davis are also in this train
The sprint begins but Goss isn´t really fast,no chance for him today maybe tomorrow..
With only 500 metres to go Ciolek takes the lead while Davis and Boasson Hagen try to pass him but it seems that no one could beat the German these days
That´s it,Ciolek takes his second stage win in a row in front of Allan Davis and Boasson Hagen.Goss becomes 21th in the end

Stage 2 : Les Vieilles Forges - Montherme
The second stage is one of those that will decide this race. There are many KoM competitions today and in the end there´s a ascent where the favorites wants to attack that´s for sure.Monfort will make his move there, too but the question is if he can get a small gap to the great time trialists like Voigt,Menchov,Evans or Larsson?
Bak did a great job today collecting 20 KoM points today. He´s the winner of this competition!
As we expected there were no moves before the last cilmb started. With only 2 kilometres to go no one wants to start the final except Monfort! He´s the first one making his move today
Bakelants and Kiryienka went after him with only 1,8 kilometres to go
Next attacks by Menchov and Efimkin but if they still can reach Monfort??And where is Larsson??Is he already bushed?Same with Voigt and Evans, can they counter this moves?
Only 400 metres to go for Maxime Monfort!!!
And that´s it!!Monfort takes the stage win in front of Baskelants and Kiryienka. This is just great for our team.Menchov becomes 5th in the end but he lost 25 seconds to Monfort!Voigt even lost 42 seconds to the stage winner and his team-mate Larsson and Cadel Evans 49 seconds! If they could gain this time in tomorrow´s time trial??Well,Monfort is a good time trialists so it should be no problem for him to defend his leading position!

Stage 7 : Sant Cugat - Circuit de Catalunya,Montmelo
Welcome to the last stage of this years Volta Ciclista a Catalunya! It´s the last of 3 flat stages there.Maybe we can get a good sprint result today,we´ll see
Game crashed again!!As we expected there was a sprint final where Goss couldn´t take part in because of his tired legs!Rabon tried to sprint with the best but he couldn´t get more than a 12th rank!In the middle of the pack was a bad crash where Armstrong,Leipheimer,Klöden,Zubeldia,Luis Leon Sanchez were involved!Lance Armstrong lost many minutes and he also lost his 3rd overall position!!

Next one-day classic is Gent-Wevelgem!!
This race is full with great riders such as Boonen,Flecha,Cancellara,Pozzato and Chavanel. Our team there hasn´t any good cobblestone rider but that´s not dramatically ´cause our goal there is just to improve the shape.Eisel our best cobblestone rider will ride his one-day classics in April. It´s gonna be a great race to watch with many favorites so no one can be sure who´s gonna be the winner of Gent-Wevelgem 2010
Team Columbia for Gent-Wevelgem
Leigh Howard
Jan Ghyselinck
Vicente Reynes
Andre Greipel
Gert Dockx
Marco Pinotti
Hayden Roulston

Gent-Wevelgem
Here we go!207 kilometres full of pressure!Last year Boasson Hagen could win this race but he will not take part today!!That´s the first surprise for today. As I already told Boonen,Pozzato and Cancellara should be the biggest favorites.Especially the last two hilly sections with cobblestone chapters could be an exciting moment, but let´s start!
Andre Greipel was in today´s break as we planned. He´s advantage to the pack was 5-6 minutes
With 60 kilometres to go Greipel reached the first hilly section while he was still in front by 2-3 minutes
Behind the pack was fast and so they were divided into many groups.Boonen and many other favorites were in front
5 kilometres later on the downhill Greipel was almost caught by this first group with Boonen,Breschel,Chavanel and Cancellara
42 kilometres before the finish Greipel was caught on the second hilly section by a bigger group with Pozzato,Flecha,Cancellara,Breschel,Maaskant and Chavanel. What a pity, but still a great try by Greipel!
On the last downhill Cancellara made his move
Only Pozzato, the Italian Champion could follow him for the moment
Boonen was their first chaser with 30 seconds behind them
Behind Boonen were Flecha and Van Summeren in a group of 2
With more than 12 kilometres to go Pozzato couldn´t keep it up with Cancellara!Wow what a performance by Cancellara
5 kilometres left for Flecha who could get a small gap to Van Summeren maybe he can reach Boonen?
Last 2 kilometres for Fabian Cancellara and it seems that Pozzato cannot counter! This could be a great win for Cancellara
Congrats to Switzerland!Cancellara wins Gent-Wevelgem 2010 after an amazing performance
Pozzato comes 34 seconds after the winner to the finish, great second place for him
And third is Tom Boonen ,the biggest favorite for today´s race,Flecha couldn´t reach him anymore
Results
Ghyselinck gets an average 33rd position in the end;Greipel becomes 40th |

Stage 3 : Charleville Mezieres ITT
It´s the last stage after the great stage win yesterday by Monfort! He only needs a good time trial for winning the Criterium International 2010!!Larsson,Voigt,Menchov and Evans are still in a good position and Monfort has to give everything today
Grabsch couldn´t show his tt strength but that´s no surprise ´cause his shape isn´t at the maximum. He became 13th,41seconds behind the stage winner
Tuft came with a great time.He only needed 11´25 for 10 kilometres
Bak,the winner of the KoM competition, had a great day and he could beat Tuft´s time by 8 seconds!
Cadel Evans was one of the favorites for the overall but he lost many seconds yesterday, maybe to much??His time is good but he can´t beat Bak!He´s one second slower then the King of Mountains
Jerome Coppel was the biggest surprise today. He was setting a new best time beating Bak by 4 seconds!
Next one was Larsson the big favorite for today´s stage win.His ride was amazing and so he could beat Coppel´s time by fantastic 17 seconds!
His team-mate Jens Voigt came a short time after Larsson but he couldn´t attack the best time. And it seems that he can´t attack Monfort for the overall. In the end of the stage he is 3rd 19 seconds behind Larsson
It´s getting serious now!Menchov is the next one setting a great time.Well,he cannot take the lead he´s 22 seconds behind Larsson and he becomes 6th in the end
Kiryienka was Monfort biggest contender for the overall after the second stage. He really impressed us today with a good time but if this is enough for Monfort??He´s 9th,31 seconds slower than Larsson
Here we go!Last man on the road is Monfort and he shows a great time trial! No one could adventure his lead in the overall today! He even becomes 4th in this time trial with 20 seconds behind Larsson ,who takes the stage win in front of Coppel and Voigt

After a great month March we will continue like that in April. Our first race will be another one-day classic in Spain where Albasini and Peter Velits want to improve their shapes for the big classics like Amstel Gold etc....
After that we will see if Eisel could get some good results at Belgium or France.Ronde van Vlaanderen,Paris-Roubaix and the Scheldeprijs are great cobblestone races where Eisel with Matthew Goss as a great help wants to shine.
The next stage race will be also in Spain. The Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco is waiting for Michael Rogers and a good overall performance by him.In the middle of April we want to continue in Spain with a continental stage race called Vuelta a Castilla y Leon but our team-squad for this race isn´t for sure up to here.
After that, the great classics in Belgium and the Netherlands will begin with the Amstel Gold Race.Of course Albasini and Peter Velits want to shine there but if they can get a great result? We will see that later..
In the end we´ll race the Tour de Romandie, there we want to check Tony Martin´s form for the Giro,so let´s hope for a great month in April. |
