In the last 2 days I ahve done 7.5 hours witha total of 130 miles. Yesterday I went on a club ride over Trinity Grade, a hill you may have heard of from tour of CA. Then we rolled (at 23 MPH average) through headwinds on the flats and came back over the hills some 30 miles from the bottome of Trinity. all in all we did 80 miles in 5 hours with 3 major climbs and my average heart rate was 162. It hurt the whole way. Went out and did a shorter team ride today so of course I had to win some town limit sign sprints. I won 2. My coach, the top woman to ever ride for America, even led me out for one. We did 50 miles and I spent all day on the front.

Gone a bit cycle-crazy this week:
Monday - 75km
Wednesday - 120km including a Wolds (E. Yorks) circuit with two 14%ers
Friday - 174km, including the Moors (N. Yorks)
So, a well-earned rest now. Friday was 8 hours in the saddle, ouch my first 100-miler. |

Not bad at all! And an average of 162bpm is painful.
Can I ask your team and who your coach is, out of curiosity?
Also, anybody here train with power instead of HRM? I don't, mostly because it's not very feasible for me. |

My first race back from my broken collarbone was a local Time Trial. 10.9 miles of rolling fun. my time was 31:16. I dropped a waterbottle and had to go back for it and missed a turn on the open course as it was my first time and i was still 5th. I passed my 1 and 2 minute men by mile 6. Next time I could cut maybe 2 minutes off my time what with knowing the course and replacing a deffective waterbottle cage.
Also my beloved Bianchi now has a crack in the frame, so I rode my old Trek in the race.
I will be replacing it with a Specialized Tarmac SL.

Er why did you go back for it? Moreover, any TT under 25 miles you shouldn't even have a water bottle - there shouldn't be time to take a sip, it'll have no effect. |

I went back for it cause it was my water bottle and I had to ride home. It is a very low key event. the course is open, there is no registration, you just put your john hancock on the paper and at 6 the one guy who does the entire race starts rider at 1 minute intervals. Its not worth losing a waterbottle over. If it had been competative I would have left it but my coach isn't going to replace a bottle I lost at the local Friday Night TT course Next week I am going at least a minute better if not 2.

His point wasn't "why did you go back for it?" it was that in a timetrial under 25kms you shouldn't actually need a waterbottle on your bike, because the timetrial is so short, you shouldn't really need to take on any water and the water bottles are therefore just excess weight to drag around
I personally would have a water bottle because I like to drink a lot when on my bike.

Just did a 17 miler with a buddy of mine, took us around 50 minutes. Doesn't sound like much, but he's doing a century tommorow, and I was hurting like hell having been playing various sports non-stop over the previous week, also add in some difficult hills, and 50 minutes was a great time, had my own 3 miler back to my house at the end as well, with some more tough hills, so It was a very fufilling ride. |

I had to ride to and from the course. All in all some 40 miles with no water?
I will take my water

Bottles - i always end up taking 2 bottles on road races even tho i may not even drink once. Correct. A 3 hour race and i may not even drink. And i wonder why i dont do well. But on the other hand, when my team mates need a bottle, i always have one extra. Plus the extra weight makes it harder, therefore in a few years when i start caring about Premier Calender stuff ill be flying
As to racing on weekdays, everyone does. Circuits are on weekday nights mostly for us brits. You can fit an hour race into an evening, but often can't fit a 3 hour race in.
On another note, im stuggling with riding atm. Don't do it, don't race much, im just kinda getting a little bored with preforming well, but not well enough to get any good results. Yeah sure, 4th and 7th are ok, but still arent a podium place are they?

A buddy of mine just got his bike nailed by a car, he jumped off just in time. He's fine, but the best part is that because it isn't his fault the dude has to pay him for his bike, which is $3300 dollars (Madone 5.2) |
