Thanks!
Yeah, I've been lucky in that Lance, Levi and Klödi all have improved and doesn't look like fading away too soon. Millar, Hincapie, Popovych and Pereiro are on their way down, but it's maybe for the best, so my team is not too good. |

Yeah good signings. MAybe a bit unrealistic bringing in Gerdemann because hes a domestique which you have quite a lot of but the kreuziger signing was definately realistic because the big 3 might retire in a year or 2.

14.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
The year 2010 began with a 4th place for George Hincapie in the Santos Tour Down Under. Levi Leipheimer repeated his 2nd place from last year in the Vuelta a Mallorca as preparation for the Tour of California, which is our first target of the season. The route is the same as last year, which means the stage 7 time trial will once again be important.
Levi is aiming to win this race for the third time. He finished 2nd last year, but this time there's no Popovych here to take the win from his captain. Not that we blame the Ukranian, he was the strongest of the two, but this year Levi will be sole leader with a loyal team backing him.
There are of course some rivals for Levi's win in California, most notably the Saxo Bank trio F.Schleck, Devolder and Cancellara. Quickstep bring a good team consisting of Boonen, Pozzato and Chavanel, while the Columbia guys Martin and Kirchen could pose a threat. I doubt, however, that the other challengers have prepared as well as Leipheimer.

Well, I kind of regret signing Gerdemann, because he doesn't really fit in. But he is a signing in the Beltran/Azevedo mould, which is something Discovery/US Postal have done quite a lot. Would have been better if he was Spanish or Italian, though |

14.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 1
Sacramento: 5.4km
Tactics meeting
We're now back to serious business after the winter break. With his good form, Levi should be able to win the short prologue.
Fabian Cancellara was one of the early starters and set a good time.
Levi was showing off our new blue-themed jersey on his way out of the start house. He beat Cancellara by 5 seconds, which meant he had won the stage! He's well on his way to his third California win.

I've actually tried modifying the contract lengths in the editor but it fucks up the riders' average stats, of all things. Luckily, that was on another carreer.
I won't do anything this season except maybe editing the contracts if I can make it work, but I'll take that in another thread. It's no hurry anyway. |

15.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 2
Davis - Santa Rosa: 173.5km
Tactics meeting
Today we'll protect Levi's yellow jersey by making sure the stage ends in a bunch sprint. That's probably in the interest of many other teams as well, so we should get some help.
Tom Boonen won the sprint way ahead of all the others. The bonus seconds for his victory puts him in the lead for tomorrow. There was really nothing we could do to keep Levi in yellow, then.

16.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 3
Sausalito - Santa Cruz: 187.0km
Tactics meeting
This stage features two big hills, and we should see some significant time gaps. Discovery will just watch for dangerous attacks, and make sure Levi Leipheimer doesn't lose his good position in the GC.
Lots of moves went on the last hill. Here it's Voeckler leading the attacks.
On the descent towards the finish, 14 riders had made the selection. Discovery had Hincapie, Brajkovic and Leipheimer in this group, while Schleck, Pozzato, Chavanel and Gilbert were here as well.
Unfortunately, Stijn Devolder rejoined the leaders on the descent. He could be a dangerous man in the GC, considering his TT abilities.
Fränk Schleck began the sprint early. His teammate Devolder got his wheel, while Brajkovic and Hincapie were in Devolder's slipstream.
Schleck and Devolder made it an impressive 1-2 for Saxo Bank. All the 15 riders in the group got the same time, including Leipheimer.
Kim Kirchen led Cancellara and race leader Boonen over the line one minute behind the 15 in the first group. Stjin Devolder takes over the yellow jersey.

17.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 4
San José - Modesto: 168.1km
Tactics meeting
After yesterday's stage ending in a sprint in a small group, we're probably back to the bunch sprints today. The last half of the stage is dead flat.
All top sprinters in the race were there for the finish today. Boonen, Hushovd, Farrar and the Silence-Lotto rider Freire to the left and Feillu with Pozzato on his wheel to the right.
Once again Boonen was the fastest man in the pack. The Belgian champion took his second California stage win of the year. Just like the previous mass sprint Hushovd was 2nd. Boonen's bonus seconds moves him up to 16th, 28 seconds behind Devolder. He's about to sprint away the time loss from yesterday.

18.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 5
Merced - Clovis: 186.1km
Tactics meeting
Yet another mass sprint stage, as we can't let anyone get time on Leipheimer. The gaps in the GC are too small for that. We'll probably see another battle between Boonen and Hushovd.
This time Hushovd was the fastest and got his first win of the season. Tom Boonen in his lime green points jersey was 3rd behind Romain Feillu. Boonen's bonifications though, takes him within 20 seconds of the yellow jersey, so if he wins tomorrow, he will enter the decisive time trial as race leader. But maybe Hushovd will want to prevent that.

Stage 6
Visalia - Paso Robles: 216.5km
Tactics meeting
It's the last flat stage before the time trial. Will it be Boonen's third, Hushovd's second or can another rider chip in with a win?
No room for surprises today, as Boonen won his third stage. Pozzato made it a 1-2 for Quick-Step. Boonen also gets the yellow jersey, as the bonus seconds takes him to the top of the general classification.

am a PCM beginner, and indeed find your story very interesting. great great news writing. simple, yet straight forward and complete...and very exciting...simply awesome. like the "team meeting" part, it says a lot that a team success owes to the strategy they take before every stage. your story will definitely help me enjoy PCM (which am having so far).
keep up the good work! |

20.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 7
Solvang: 24.5km
Tactics meeting
Finally we're looking at some serious changes in the overall classification. For Discovery's sake, it's hopefully a change to the better. Levi is looking very strong at the moment, and should be able to take the race lead after the time trial.
Levi's teammate Floyd Landis rode a strong time trial, setting the best time so far.
The best young rider of the Tour of California, Tony Martin, took 4 seconds off Landis' time.
Martin's lead didn't last long, as Fabian Cancellara beat the German by 7 seconds.
Then it was Levi. Having prepared really well for what is "his" race, we always believed he could win the time trial, but him beating Cancellara by 1'01 was unbelievable!
Stijn Devolder, who over the past days has turned out to be Levi's main rival for the overall win, finished 1'08 behind our American captain.
Tom Boonen in the yellow jersey rode a respectable time trial, finishing 13th. He slipped down the overall rankings though, taking 8th place after the stage.

21.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 8
Santa Clarita - Pasadena: 143.6km
Tactics meeting
We continue with yet another flat stage before the nervous hilly stage which ends the Tour. Last year a breakaway won this stage, so it's not certain that it will end in a bunch sprint.
But a bunch sprint it was. Ballan won it in front of his teammate Thor Hushovd to make it a Lampre 1-2. Tom Boonen is obviously not climbing well early in the season, as the couple of hills made sure his legs were only good enough for a 6th place.

22.02.2010: Amgen Tour of California
Stage 9 [Last stage]
Rancho Bernardo - Escondido: 156.2km
Tactics meeting
It's the last stage and we're in a defensive position. Levi siezed the yellow jersey in the time trial two days ago, and somebody has to do something really spectacular to take it off him. He has practically won the Tour of California already. It will be nice if we also can keep our other good positions in the overall classification.
Stijn Devolder, 2nd in the GC, led the attacks on the last climb.
A leading group of 13 riders eventually got loose from the pack. We had as much as four Discovery riders there: Levi, Hincapie, Landis and Brajkovic. Sandy Casar attacked off the front of the group with 3km remaining.
A kilometer later, he had gotten himself a nice gap.
Nobody could catch the Frenchman, who won the last stage in California! Because of the absence of the Quick-Step duo Boonen and Chavanel in the first group, Floyd Landis moves into the top 10. Levi kept his overall lead with ease, and is the winner of the Amgen Tour of California 2010!

Without much difficulty, Levi Leipheimer sealed his third win in California after finishing 2nd to teammate Popovych last year. Discovery Channel stacked the top 10 of the overall standings and we also won the team competition quite comfortably.
Stijn Devolder performed well for his new team Saxo Bank and finished 2nd overall after a strong showing in the time trial. Tom Boonen did a good Tour of California, the Belgian winning three stages and thereby securing the points jersey.
The next serious race for us will be the Paris - Nice stage race, where Lance Armstrong will show his World Champion colours in front of the cameras for the first time. Stay tuned!

08.03.2010: Paris - Nice
The race to the sun makes for a few interesting debuts this year. Lance Armstrong will show off his rainbow colours for the first time in a big race, and we'll debut our new-formed sprint pairing Gerald Ciolek and Bernhard Eisel.
Unlike the 2009 version, this year's Paris - Nice has quite a few time trial kilometres. There's 40 of them in total, including a hilly 31km time trial around the city of Gap. That one will come on stage 5. Directly after the time trial comes the only mountain top finish of the race.
Of course, Armstrong will not be able to just roll away with the victory. Some dangerous riders are present, the most dangerous of whom is last year's winner Alejandro Valverde. Other strong names on the start list includes Andy Schleck, Zubeldia, Casar, Fuglsang and Chavanel, who always seems to hit top form in this race. Because of the added time trial kms, Michael Rogers should also be regarded as a candidate for victory.
