Le Tour 09: Stage 16 - Martigny - Bourg Saint Maurice

WTF, Menchov. Did he just stop training after the Giro? Suppose A) He was on drugs and B) got off them because of the speculation, that STILL doesn't explain why he's THIS shitty.

Why are people like you still allowed to live on this planet Sad the ignorance.

Ever thought of c) The Giro took so much energy out of him, mentally and physcially, that he couldn't recover in time?

It happened so often to Giro-winners/riders who did an excellent Giro.

Or he was never that convincing in the Tour to begin with? Only last year in a "weak" field...

Well, because Menchov often performs better in his second Grand Tour each year. I've read that's why he started in the Giro last year, because they were tired of him doing a decent Tour and then a great Vuelta, they thought that he would do a decent Giro and a great Tour. You can't argue that he didn't show up in great form in last year's Giro, too and had a great Tour last year. Now he's losing 16:40 on what was ultimately a non-decisive stage? Questionable.

That theorie is BS anyway. Because he once had a good Tour (5th) and then had a horrible Vuelta, eventually dropping out. The same year, as 2nd GT...

So. It isn't the first time his 2nd GT is worse than his first. All depends on how you ride it. Last year he rode the Giro as preparation. This year he rode for the win

= big difference

And in regards to "ignorant" people not being allowed in the planet coming from the guy that would defend Dekker to the death...I wholeheartedly and sincerely apologize for having an opinion. I should just leave posting to all-knowing people like you, kind sir.

Cue Death 1.2.3...

Actually, ruben isn't here, so I'll say it. Ruben was making a point, and by far the stupidest theory I've heard repeated over and over on this site is that if someone is arguing with you, you obviously think they are stupid. Ruben isn't attacking you personally (he can come across that way a lot of the time, but he never means it), he's just saying what he thinks, so back off.

Also, Ruben may have defended Dekker, but he did so when there was very little evidence and all of it was circumstantial. As soon as concrete evidence came out, he changed his views immediately. I'll leave it at that.

sigh... everyone go watch the giro. Particulary stages from the 60km TT, now watch Menchovs giro.

He rode one hell of a giro.

Also on the subject of Menchov, he did an interview with BBC Persia about a week ago in Limoges. Here is the translated article by the British BBC bit

I guess I got confused when he said that ignorant people like me shouldn't be allowed to be on the planet. It does tend to come across as personal.

But fair enough. I apologize to reuben for attacking him and if my questioning why Menchov is so off offended anyone.

Van Hummel has been like a joke this tour. But he has ridden by himself in his own tempo that many miles and make the time every day is impressive. He can be the first rider to ride almost the whole Tour de France as a time trail. Smile

He needs more air time though, didn't he do a top 10 on one stage?

He's not a joke. He is just an anti-climber.

Do you call Napolitano or Furlan a joke? Probably not. But they gave up, where Van Hummel went through.
If anything, he shows more character than many of the top classification riders. He doesn't know when or how to quit...

@deadpool, i didn't call him a joke.
Knasen did.

I was being serious, he deserves to get on TV after struggling his way through each stage

No, he is trying hard to reach paris, he isn't trying to get last... can't you see?

He IS trying to end last. He said that himself in an interview.

About Menchov, I agree with BenBarnes. All the speculation has had some effect on Menchov.

yes he is trying to avoid not ending. Like those who don't finish.
