He's considered that agreement null and void since Romandie when they weren't getting paid.

Valverde banned from racing in the Tour. Disgraceful, should be able to race until proven guilty. Italians just can't keep their pathetic noses out of other countries business. They shouldn't shouldn't have a say. The only reason he isn't riding the Tour is because of the Italians. I think that races should be kept in one country like the tour de France just in France because after all it is the Tour de France. |

1st. He HAS been proven guilty
2nd. He isn't riding because of the italians? Right they probably changed the Piti's DNA at Fuentes' lab with their magical pizza-baking skills
3rd. So by your judgement if I murder someone in Spain I should walk freely by italian streets is it? Camon man he got caught! it's ridiculous to discuss who should have caught him...

If he has been proven guilty why have UCI banned him. Valverde will be back if he gets banned. I just look up to guy, he is one of the reasons I started cycling. So it's hard to take. Valverde is an idol to me. |

They took Valverde's blood and compared it to a blood bag which they found at Fuente's place. The DNA matched.
That's more than enough evidence for me.
In other news, Botero has decided to end his career. |

if you're a cycling fan its a rite of passage to see your idols test positive. It happened to me twice in a tour (technically rasmussen didn't test positive though)

It's just one of the several rituals that those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat.
For example: Notice how most are convinced doping is marginal and limited to "a few bad apples".
Here's a hint: the majority of people always believed that. If you were to ask around right after the Festina scandal in 98, almost everyone would tell you that was the case.
Everyone will tell you now "how obvious it was at the time what the real situation was". Yet at the time they were convinced everything was fine.
Same in 1999 after the Giro.
Same in 2001 after the raids.
Same in 2002 after the raids.
Same in 2003 after the Manzano case.
Same in 2005 after all the positives.
Same in 2006 after Puerto.
Same in 2007 after the 2007 Tour
Same now.
They all believe now that it's all good.
In five years they'll all be telling you "how obvious it was in 2009 that everyone was doped".
People don't learn. They prefer to "see" an idillic world that doesn't exist, that has absolutely no basis of evidence to support even the chance that it might exist....instead of even considering the obvious reality.

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but for two stages in the tour race radios will be banned.
If the experiment works, it could become permanent. |

I don't think banning race radios is right. If they do get banned what about the commentators since they provide us with good useful information from race radio. I don't think cycling would be goos with out, but I have only watched cycling in the days of race radio. Im only 17 so thats the cycling as I know it. |

Do you think cycling will ever become a clean sport. I am fed up of all the doping scandals. i am fed up of people looking down at cycling saying it's a cheaters sport and that. |

Team Radios is whats being banned, where DS' give tactics to riders etc.
Radio Tour will remain i'd imagine

But thats sport, in football you get tactis from the manager, same in motor racing, rugby and plenty more. So why souldn't cycling keep it. I think having race radios makes it more interesting. |

Because racing with team radios is mind numbingly boring compared to racing without radios.

It's like Robots, attack now. Oh i'm calculating, oh noes we need the break back.
Without radios the riders will have to do the calculating, do i have to do this now, well if i do this now, this might happen.
Do football players have ear pieces in telling them what to be doing at all points. No, somebody yells at them.
I imagine riders going to team cars for orders.

I am actually really looking forward to those two stages
Bjarne Riis is furious though. He says that this might be a big decider of who is going to win the tour... |

Tme gaps could be bigger this year than in the previous 2 years. Personally I think Denis Menchov will win the tour this year. |

I'm happy because the first stage is July 14th, my birthday. That means the day will be exciting, and either:
A - Managers misjudge the gaps, and break survives
B - Managers chase too hard, catch the break too early, and late counterattacks by guys like Vockler make the stage a treat
I guessing (and hoping) that B is what happens |

or
C - The french riders put in a massive team attack and gap the rest of the peleton then battle it out for victory.
