I'm afraid you guys need to accept that the best person on the day doesn't always win:-
1. Vos appeared to be the strongest on the day but that doesn't guarantee victory (nor should it, life would be boring if it always went like that).
2. Arndt and Worrack must be very disappointed, two riders in the final five and they still couldn't get the tactics right to win (who do they think they are, the Schleck brothers?)!
3. Johannson just went too early (think Vos would have beaten her any way).
4. In my eyes, Cooke raced the with the best tactics. Yes on the day she was not as strong as Vos, but does that mean she should just get off her bike and give the race to her?
Least deserving world champion my arse (grow up)!!!! She raced well, played her cards at the right time and wanted it the most!!!

???
Couldn´t get the tactics right to win?
They tired down the others , 1 attack , 1 hangs on , most of the Time Vos and Johannsson chased down Worrack or Arndt (who are good if you look at the UCI standings , Arndt three times better than Cooke) everyone was tired like hell , but Cooke not (roaring at every GB rider , held the flag of Wales etc.) , isn´t it obvious? I wouldn´t describe "to be tired" with that words in ()

Also here the Italian team couldn´t get it right , like at the U23 race
Maybe tomorrow the Italian team will be the best team (But I would bet on Frank Schleck and maybe Schumacher)

The Germans obviously didn't get the tactics right to win because they er.... didn't win. |

I accept your point.
To be fair to the German pair they did try to play the one, two tactics. However, I did feel that Arndt could have attacked earlier once they had caught Worrack for the final time.
However, they still must be disappointed due to the strong position they had.
With respect to the comment about Arndt being 3 times better than Cooke in the UCI standings (whatever relevance that has?). I think that may have something to do with Cooke missing a portion of the season due to injury and the fact she concentrated on the olympics. However, you cannot argue with Cooke's record over the years which PROVES she is a valid challenger for the world champs.
Cooke was not in top form for this race, her main focus this year was the olympics, she had a plan and raced to it. You may not like the way she raced, however you cannot argue with the result.
If it's so easy to win races that way, then get on your bike and do it yourself. I for one would die on my arse if I tried.

The U23 winner is under investigation for high blood values.

Duarte's positive doping case to be re-opened
The new Under 23 road world champion, Fabio Duarte, may not be able to celebrate as much as he'd like after his win Friday in Varese, Italy. Like fellow Colombian Santiago Botero, Duarte tested positive for testosterone.
The result came during the Clasica de Girardot prior to the Tour of Columbia in July of 2007. Duarte has been adamant that his values were naturally at that level, and the Columbian federation said it would prove so before July of 2008. However, nothing appears to have been done. Furthermore, the UCI said it knew nothing of Duarte's case until Friday.
Duarte was selected by the UCI to ride for its mixed team in the Tour d l'Avenir earlier this year. He returned to Europe in the colors of the French Club VC La Pomme-Marseille, but he wasn't permitted to race as an amateur in France since he was also registered as a member of the Continental team Columbia ès Passion. Prior to the Tour de l'Avenir, he took part with La Pomme in some one-day races in Italy and the Tour of the Valle d'Aosta where he was forced to pull out due to an insect bite.
"We need to check," said UCI anti-doping manager Ann Gripper, admitting she wasn't aware of Duarte's outstanding anti-doping case until Friday. UCI doctor Mario Zorzoli said that a positive test for testosterone had to be confirmed by an IRMS test, as was done in the case of Floyd Landis at the 2006 Tour de France.
"We will re-open his case," Zorzoli told Cyclingnews.

Zorzoli, that's the doctor who confirmed there was nothing wrong with Dekkers blood values, so he is to be trusted |

I hope he doesn't. I can't stand the man, he has the worst personality in cycling. What a jackass. I'll take anyone winning before him. Literally anyone.
How many years until he makes a comeback?

Depends if he wins or loses.
So I'd give it a year

Its interesting how when Evans ride, no one likes him for his style. But when Cooke does the same damn thing, she is suddenly called a tactical genius. Im with Ruben on this one.
i've never called cooke a tactical genius and i've never disliked evans. admittedly vos made it more interesting but she should of tried to force the others to work. Cooke did what she needed to and nothing more(emphasis) while Ericsson did no chasing at all and no-one is complaining at her. I'm not against saying she rode like Evans or anything but 'least deserving winner ever' is absolute bullshit

The difference being that in these past 2 seasons Evans has actually attacked more than the vast majority of GC riders.
But it's fashionable to bash evans for wheel sucking so everyone conveniently forgets it.

I have to say, Frank Schleck seems very unsettled this morning.
And another thing ive just noticed is that the spectators seems to be scattering lots of pieces of paper :S A lot just got caught in Gilberts wheel. |

about F. Schleck. that german newspaper who said he sent 6981 euro to fuentes: its been confirmed by schleck's loyar. and there's more: at about 12 o clock Riis will give a press conference in Varese. rumors say hes going to say something with big impact on cycling.
this press conferance must be about schleck... italian police have searched the luxemburgian hotel, and schlecks dad's car has again been searched as well, again. |

No wonder he is unsettled. I don't think we will see Schleck feature too much today. Id be willing to lay a bet the he may not finish. |
