With the today’s stage the Vuelta is going to finish and everything looks to be settled. The team classification is won by Sky beating Movistar by half an hour. The mountain classification is won surprisingly by Egor Silin from Astana. The overall is won by Froome and Ghita wins the young riders classification. The only classification that can change is the points classification. Valverde has 17 points advantage over Froome though making it unlikely that it will change.

For the final time at the starting line

Froome and Valverde are easily spotted, Bouet and Ghita a bit harder

Despite it being the last stage, we still had a big breakaway. Rabon (Omega Pharma), Florencio (Katusha), Durasek (Lampre), De la Cruz (NetApp), Zaugg (Saxo Bank), De Marchi (Cannondale), Meintjes (MTN) and Chérel (AG2R) are the riders that will try to stay in front of the peloton. The 3 minute gap isn’t helping much.

the last breakaway of the Vuelta

Chérel is the first rider to go past the finish line but sadly for him, there are still 2 more laps to go on the final circuit. Argos, Orica and Euskaltel are the teams that have taken the charge of the peloton. The gap is down to 1,5 minutes.

two laps to go

We are into the last lap and the breakaway is still in front, only 44 seconds is the difference between the break and the peloton.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0389_zpse489d463.jpg
the end is getting close

The trains have appeared. Euskaltel is leading with their train for Lobato. Orica has a train for Matthews and Argos has a train for Degenkolb. Cristobal Riquelme, Navardauskas, Petacchi, Ciolek and Sutton are behind Matthews.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0390_zps39b0ee40.jpg
the trains for the final time

At 2.4 km the trains are still intact. Lobato is lead out by Tamouridis and Sánchez. Matthews is lead out by Davis and Impey. Degenkolb is lead out by Ghita and De Backer. All the other sprinters are still in Matthew’s wheel. Meanwhile Rabon is leading the race.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0391_zpsd63e305a.jpg

Sánchez and Tamouridis have pulled away from the trains and left Lobato in Degenkolb’s wheel. Ghita and Davis have also turned away from the trains and are leaving it now in De Backer and Impey hands. Cristobal Riquelme and Navardauskas are still in Matthews wheel.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0392_zps0ad7ab8f.jpg

De Backer has also pulled away early leaving Matthews with the best train. Impey dropped of Matthews perfectly but Cristobal Riquelme is right beside him. Navardauskas is also still in the mix as is Degenkolb. Lobato is a bit further back. The breakaway is barely in front. They could however get in the way of the sprinters

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0393_zps83c27d17.jpg

The sprinters are indeed blocked by the remaining breakaway members, they were much faster but the way the break was spread has blocked of the road completely.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0394_zps9c4ab80a.jpg
a true roadblock

This means that instead of an expected sprinter it is Rabon that wins in Madrid!. Meintjes and Durasek that are responable for the road block finish 6th and 3rd. Chérel, Florencio and De Marchi make 2nd, 4th and 5th place. First rider from the peloton Impey in 7th. Zaugg was the weakest in the road block and was 8th. Matthews and Cristobal Riquelme make finish the top 10.

Froome finishes easily in the peloton meaning that he’s the 2013 winner of La Vuelta

after wasting 3 hours of messing with the db file and a calculator I now have a new lord and savior

I've got to say, thank you very much for the quality reports and the great pace for our daily dose of Vuelta. A job very well done for someone who hadn't reported in ages!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yeah, superb job Luigi. Even though you gave me absolute nada, it was always good reading your reports.

So, so disappointed with how the AI handles outsiders in GTs. Pathetic. Just got to wait to hear from Damian now to find out why he fell off a cliff in the final week. He was in the top 20 with a week to go and he's finished 38th, over 20 minutes behind 20th. Shock Frown

Why are the last stages of GTs so strange? oh well Ghita might just kept Argos in the world tour.

That was a weak performance compared to the other GT's from FDJ. Still there were some fighting breakaway performances and a stage win was close a number of times. Certainly helps form opinions about who will stay and who will go.

Another interesting GT with some good, bad and just PCM moments. Well done SSJ to power through the reporting and do it very well indeed.
Interested to see how that affected the relegation fight, Orica didn't have a great race

Rabon chose a good moment to score his first points of the season Wink

Jorge scoring some more points, can't be too unhappy about his Vuelta. Sanchez also had some great moment. Ten Dam will be traded off after this season, anyone want a 77 Mo guy?

This stage sums up my entire Vuelta, every time a break with my rider goes to the line, my rider is one of the worst in the sprint. Smile

Good job on the reporting, makes me sad that Vacansoleil wasn't in it Smile

The pace was great and from 11 pm every day I was just updating the page every minute Grin

No comment on the results.

Great reporting, thanks for some speedy, qualitative coverage Luigi. Very happy result-wise though NetApp should be renamed in König-Birt & the rest, because it was a two man show for us all throughout the race.
