Last year I was making a good 26th position, today, I'm hoping for a better result despite my shape which is not at his best.
Race Report:
The pace was very slow during the first 80 km and the breakaway got 10' on the pack, Alexandre decide to reduce the gap and when it was about to 3' , Vincent decided to attack. There was 40 km left.
With 25 km to go I was in a group of ten riders with Boonen, Vanmarcke, Damien and Séb T..
20 km before the end, Vanmarcke and Björn Leukemans launched an attack. I was too tired so let go the other waiting for an other group.
Tom Boonen was, by far, the strongest today, and he won the race ahead his team-mate Gert Steegmans. Séb T. ended 6th and Damien 7th. I ended in the same time as Vincent at the 14th position.
I must say Mark's making a very positive evolution lately. He's becoming real consistent and strong! I can see him shine in these races in a few years!
This race is hell for every rider in Brugge. Last year after 260.1 km I was finishing 24th, this year my main goal is to help my leaders to get a top 10 and I will try to get a top 20.
Race Report:
We were 200 riders at the beginning, only 123 arrived in Oudenaarde.
Here I am at the start of the race. Thanks to the dutch cycling fan who post this picture on twitter.
A breakaway of 11 riders was formed after 50 km of riding, the pack was controlled by RadioShack - Leopard, Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team and Lampre - Merida.
There is still 134 km to go but Jürgen Roelandts (Lotto Belisol) is already trying to escape the pack.
And with 60 km to go, it was the time when Tom Boonen decided to accelerate. (I never saw him again after that).
Matti Breschel (Tinkoff Bank) also tried to join Boonen but Spartacus was riding too fast and he did not let him go.
In the last passage on the Oude Kwaremont, Tom Boonen was still alone at front but the 5 chasing behind him were getting closer.
(The Garmin - Sharp rider is just a poor rider who is very late on Tom).
Still in the Oude Kwaremont, Fabian Cancellara accelerated to catch Tom and he let his colleagues behind him.
On the Paterberg, Boonen and Cancellara were back together. Last year, Fabian won ahead of Tom, will it be the same today?
And yes, Fabian out sprinted Tom to get another victory here in Oudenaarde.
Séb T. hang on as long as he could but he let the others go and he ended 7th.
Damien, Thomas and I ended in the same time as Juan Antonio Flecha (Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team).
I took the 14th position I'm so happy of this result because it's only the second time I'm riding this race.

Flash Interview
Journalist: I am with Tom Boonen, the second of the race, Tom like last year you failed for an inch how do you feel?
Tom Boonen: I think I accelerated too early and it cost me energy, energy I was needed in the sprint, and when Fabian caught me he did not took relay, I did most of the work but still congrats to him.
Journalist: Thanks Tom see you next year. And now is coming Alessandro Ballan, Alessandro, you joined Lampre - Merida this season but there was already Filippo Pozzato for the classics, did not you take his position?
Alessandro Ballan: Filoppo was too irregular in his results and Lampre - Merida was searching a co-leader for the cobbled classics, as I was in conflict with my ex-team, I was looking for a new team and Lampre - Merida offered me an interesting contracts so i signed.
Journalist: Good luck for the rest of your season and thank you. And here comes the winner Fabian Cancellara, Fabian first congrats.
Fabian Cancellara: Thanks
Journalist: Tom was very strong today what was your plan to beat him today?
F.C: In a race like that you can't have plans, every thing can happen and we can't predict this things, when I see Tom attacking, I realised he was not that confident about his sprint so I asked Maarten Wynants to up the pace to tired my opponents; and on the Oude Kwaremont I took my chance, Tom had already ride alone for a long time and he was very tired so I caught him quite easily and then you know the rest.
Whaou 14th in Ronde van Vlaanderen even in my dream I was not that good and I wish to confirm that in Paris - Roubaix in one week but first I need to sleep. The gap is still important and I'm far from winning this race but who knows what could happen in the next years?
Ian Butler: Thanks, he is getting better and better as the month passed
sutty68: they not just enjoyed it, they lived it

I'm already on my way for the reckoning of the last cobbled section of Paris - Roubaix, I will met the fans at the Carrefour de l'Arbre café see you there
This morning I went, with the riders selected for Paris - Roubaix in a reckoning training camp, we ride across la Trouée d'Arenberg, Mons-en-Pévèle and le Carrefour de l'Arbre. where we stop to have a fan-meeting.
Here are some pictures we took during the day:
La Trouée d'Arenberg
Mons-en-Pévèle
Le Carrefour de l'Arbre
It was raining today, I hope the weather will be better tomorrow.
Thanks to all the fan who were au Carrefour de l'Arbre, we really appreciated it.
Hello everyone, this year's Paris - Roubaix sounds very exiting due to the strong field coming there, I hope to be in the top 20 but nothing is sure.
Last year, Séb T. was taking the 4th position behind Sylvain Chavanel, Fabian Cancellara and Tom Boonen.
Spoiler
Race Report:
Today the weather was perfect, not too hot and not too cold, the rain was far but the cobbles were still wet, we had to be careful.
Again, the same dutch fan put this picture of me at the beginning of the race:
10 riders left the pack early but they never get more than 3'30 on us.
147.9 km to go:
We were not yet at the half of the stage and the cobblestones were here. Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team, RadioShack - Leopard and Sky Procycling were controlling the gap between us and the breakaway.
82 km to go (Trouée d'Arenberg):
We were still far from Roubaix but The Gladiator was already upping the pace. he was so fast that without attacking he left every one behind him.
The coach asked us to be seen and la Trouée d'Arenberg is the best place for that so we all go at the front to show our jersey.
42 km to go (Mons-en-Pévèle):
Fabian was still alone 3'00 ahead the chaser, he was gone for a 80 km solo.
Between him and the pack, they were no riders, the breakaway had been caught few kilometers before Mons-en-Pévèle. The chase was organized by no one but Tom Boonen. We were in a group of 21 riders (We= Damien, Sébastien, Vincent and me)
When we left the cobbled section, 4 riders were leaving the main group, it was Tom Boonen, Matti Breshel, Juan Antonio Flecha and Sylvain Chavanel.
22 km to go (Carrefour de l'Arbre):
Last year, Spartacus lost Paris - Roubaix here but today, he has 2'21 on the chasers.
Tom Bonnen leave his colleagues to chase Fabian by himself.
Last year Damien had to retire from the race because of a fall, today ,Sébastien, with 20 km left had a puncture, he was losing every hope he had.
Roubaix (le Velodrome):
Fabian entered first in this legendary Velodrome he had ridden 80 km alone he just took the time to enjoy what was happening.
Then came Tom Boonen, unlucky in the Ronde van Vlaanderen, he took a second position again here in Roubaix.
Here came the three who fought for third position, Matti Breschel, Juan Antonio Flecha and Sylvain Chavanel.
They were followed by Allesandro Ballan and Lars Boom.
And then came... us, Damien and I managed to leave the other riders in the penultimate cobbled section, if you have counted the riders you know now my ranking
Congatulation sir Fabian Cancellara, he won one of the most amazing Paris - Roubaix ever.
AS a good friend and team-mate, I let Damien took the 8th position because he did most of the work to get us to Roubaix

We kept the same top 3 as last year but Tom moved second and Fabian 1st.
I'm so happy about this top 10, several team manager approached me thanks to that result, I'm still in discussion with Team Europcar but some proposition were really interesting.
In the next post I will give you some of the interview made after the race.See you
