So I will make a report of the last 2 races that we will race before the Ardennes Triple !
Brabantse Pijl
Profile
Line-up
The competition is not as tough as in the last years , so Niki Terpstra is clearly the main favourite of the race . Let's hope that the Dutch Champion can get his first win of the season !
The race
The BOTD was formed by : Boaro , Paili , Gene , Monfort , Lutsenko , Teuns , Fransen and Ligthart .
We upped the pace with 50 kms to go and we caught the break . Also an important selection was made and in the main group there were only around 20 riders .
Terpstra attacked with 30 kms to go !
He was joined by Daniel Oss , Jan Ghyselinck and Bart De Clercq !
The winner will be decided from this group . And Terpstra is the one , beating Oss in the uphill sprint !

Really happy that Niki got his well-deserved first win of the season after all the work he did for Boonen and Cavendish in the previous races !

We really don't expect much from this race , it is just a warm-up before the Ardennes !
The race
The break was caugt with 15 kms to go . Entering the last 10 kms Kwiatowski was well-placed , but he was suffering , because he is not yet is a good shape .
Unfortunately I did not have time in the last week to continue my story because I am very busy at school ( it is end of year and there are exams)
This will last until around 1st of June so I decided to take a break from my story ! I hope I will make some time to make the reports from the Ardennes , but don't worry : the story will continue with Tour de Romandie and Giro probably in 2-3 weeks ! Thanks for understanding !
Guys I am really sorry for this kind of long pause , but I was really busy with the end of the school year . Now I am back and I will continue my OPQS story for PCM 2012 . I decided to buy PCM 2013 so these will be my last weeks playing PCM 2012 and this will mean I will post the reports in a very fast rythm - I really want to get to TDF . . Hope it is ok for you - so next are the Ardennes Classics !
So the Ardennes week begins with Amstel Gold Race . The most important race in the Netherlands has a very tough route with 36 climbs ! The final trio Geulhemmerweg - Bemelerberg - Cauberg will definitely decide the winner .
Our team
Our team looks pretty strong on paper , but unfortunately they are not in great shape . They did not have a good preparation in the training camps in April so we don't really have any reason to be optimistic before the race .

The race
So the race started as usual in Maastricht . After 30 kms a break-away was formed by : Teklehaimanot , Danielson , Vrecer , Vogondy , Houle , Gautier and Valls Ferri . They maximum lead was of 8 minutes with 120 kms to go .
BMC , Katusha , Sky and Saxo controlled the race and with 25 kms to go the break was caught . Danielson was still in front but after 5kms he was caught as well . Then the attacks came : Purito , Boasson Hagen and L.LSanchez created a 25-second gap !
They were caught by Astana and BMC . With 5 kms to go only Velits was still in the first group from our team . The group had like 50-60 riders and Velits unfortunately was at the end of the group . Astana was leading the pack before Cauberg .
On Cauberg Contador came at the front and tried to set a really fast pace . Sagan ,Gilbert , Nibali , Tejay , Purito and Iglinsky were all there .
Nobody managed to create a gap on Cauberg so the winner will be decided in the last km , which is on flat . Gilbert was the first to launch his sprint and the World Champion won for the 3rd time in his career Amstel Gold Race !

Great win by Gilbert in the Rainbow Jersey and a disappointing result for our team . It was probably our worst race this season , but let's hope we will do better in Belgium !
The race itselft it is not very difficult , or at least not as difficult as Amstel or LBL , but the steep climbs of the famous Mur d'Huy will once again decide the winner !
Our team
Our team is the same like in Amstel Gold Race . Let's hope that Velits and Kwiatkowski will improve their performance !

The race
Nothing really interesting happened in the first part of the race . A 7-man break-away was formed by : Spilak , Sutherland , Poulhies , Cordeel , Ferrari , Delpech and Jans .
Their maximum lead was of 7 minutes with 100 kms to go but then BMC , Sky and Astana upped the pace . The break was caught with 20 kms to go .
Vanendet and Sagan attacked . Gilbert , Albasini , Betancur , Monfort , Contador and Nibali decided to follow them .
But there were to many leaders in this group and they did not want to cooperate , so Katusha and Sky caught them with ease .It seems that it will all be decided on Mur d'Huy as nobody else attacked . The pace set by BMC was no very high and it allowed Kwiatkowksi to bring Velits to the front .
The climb begins - 1.5 kms left ! Kwiatkowski and Velits are still in front and Gilbert decided to attack ! Nibali follows him !
It seemed that Gilbert made his move too early as Nibali overtakes him and he is now 1st with 800 meters to go !
Nibali manages to hang on and he takes the win ! Betancur won the sprint for the 3rd place beating Purito !

Another disappointing result as Velits was our best-placed rider , finishing 28th ! Liege-Bastogne-Liege will be our final chance to do something in this Ardennes campaign !
Edited by alex valceanu on 26-06-2013 12:50
There are some really disappointing results so far in Ardennes , but we all hope this will change in Liege-Bastogne-Liege , our final chance to get a nice result - the race that ends the classics season !
Liege - Bastogne - Liege
Preview
Our team
Even tough we had some disappointing results in Amstel and in Fleche Wallone we have confidence in these riders and we send the same team for LBL too .

The race
The weather was really bad at the start - it was very cold and it was raining . The early break was formed by : J.J.Oros , J.Dombrovski , D.Veilleux , R.Valls , D.Napolitano and Vanbilsen .
With 120 kms to go the break had an advantage of almost 6 minutes . Astana started to up the pace . This surprised lots of riders and as a result many were caught at the rear of the peloton and dropped . Gilbert , Dan Martin , Van Avermaet , just to name a few . There were now only around 35 riders in the first group .
After we helped a lot with the relays by sending Golas , M.Velits and Pauwels at the front , Astana and Sky started to control the race. They did not want to let Gilbert to come back so due to this fast pace the escapees were already caught with 80 kms to go .
We enter on the famous "La Redoute"! , as a small group of 10 riders with Tejay , Mollema and Betancur joins us . Astana was still leading the pack , with Gasparotto , Iglinsky and Kessiakoff . Peter Velits and Kwiatkowski were still hanging on.
Nibali makes his move on Col de Colonster and Cunego is the only one able to follow him .
Cunego cant keep up and Nibali now enters the last 10 kms solo , with a 20-second gap .
The main group was really organised behind Nibali , but the "Shark" enters the last km with a 15-second gap . Cunego launches his sprint and Uran , Gerrans and Sagan follow him . Unfortunately Velits and Kwiatkowski were dropped on Saint-Nicolas .
They can't close the gap in the final km and Nibali takes revenge from the loss from 2012 and wins this year LBL !

Velits was once again our best-placed rider , but he finished only 26th . After an amazing campaign in the Flandres classics we had a disappointing performance in the Ardennes .
Our last race in the month will be Tour de Romandie !
