Tour de Normandie Stage 3

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0003-60_zps80775d08.jpg

A very short stage that shouldn't be particularly exciting. Break will go, break will be brought back, sprint will start, the best sprinter will win. Repeat.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0006-70_zps5c7fbf62.jpg
Today, Hoogenboom got in the break for Sky along with three others. Realistically, there was absolutely no hope for this group but they tried their best before being caught in the last fifteen kilometres. The French teams weren't messing about today, the pace over the final climb ten kilometres from the end causing serious problems for all of Sky's youngsters. Only Hammarling had anything in the tank but he was well back.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0008-57_zps15ee8594.jpg
And Petit took the win, extending his lead in the race. Pelucchi was second ahead of Dumoulin, Arashiro and Duque. It was a horror show for Sky, Hammarling barely breaking in to the top twenty-five as the pace proved just too hot today. These big teams mean business here and we just need to hang on.

Tour de Normandie Stage 4

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0004-67_zps4d44ddeb.jpg

An even shorter stage than the last one, at just seventy kilometres, this is another certain bunch sprint. However, there is a lot of undulation packed into this short run, which will once again cause problems for some riders. A breakaway is the main goal again today.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0009-48_zps0f41b4dd.jpg
Sky succeeded again in getting a man up the road, New Zealander Thompson being the chosen one today. So far, a 100% record for the team in getting into the break. Unfortunately, on such a short stage, this group had no chance and they were duly caught ten kilometres from the finish.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0010-39_zps07abe5ca.jpg
Again, the stage was raced incredibly hard and Petit benefitted, taking a second win in a row, ahead of his team mates, Dumoulin and Duque. In total, Cofidis had five riders in the top nine! Hammarling had a much better day but just missed out on the top ten to Rene Mandri. A good effort nevertheless. Our team just don't seem to be able to cope with the very high speed of the leadout trains. Then again, a few of these riders may do the Tour de France, so it's not exactly easy!

We are having a VERY hard time indeed. These French boys don't mess about, do they?! Sad

@pcm2009fan, Eddie is waiting for his chance, I would imagine he'll get a go in the remaining four stages as everybody will!

@TheManxMissile, hopefully this nightmare will make everyone stronger in the future. I can't wait to get back to the UK now! Frown

Race Report
Tour de Normandie Stage 5

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0005-63_zps689706be.jpg

Back to the regular length stages now with a rolling stage to Flers. There are a couple of climbs, including a third category one not far from the finish. Again, if the stage is raced hard, there could be problems for the Sky team.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0001-75_zps3fd12228.jpg
Sky maintained their 100% record of getting into breaks as Scotsman Droochit joined six others early on in hideous weather again. Obviously, being Scottish, Eddie has no problem with rain but the flat roads weren't to his liking. Bichot of Veranda Rideau was in the break again and got more points towards the King of the Mountains classification.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0002-65_zps40b03dcc.jpg
With ninety kilometres to go, it looked good for the breakaway, as the gap back to the peloton stood at nearly eleven minutes. Unfortunately for the escapees, Demaret of Cofidis rode on the front for a whole twenty kilometres on his own and managed to bring the gap down by SIX minutes. Right then... Rolling Eyes

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0003-60_zpsfd5196c6.jpg
And sure enough, Droochit was the last man to be caught eight kilometres from the end. It was a superb effort from the pure climber but it was going to be yet another horrendous day for the team. As the French teams begun their super fast leadouts, even Hammarling couldn't keep up today and it was a massive struggle just staying in the front group.

i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd369/brewers90/PCM0004-67_zps683bdbd4.jpg
Today it was Dumoulin who took the victory ahead of Tronet and Poulhies. Petit could only manage fourth but still keeps the lead. Hammarling came home 34th on a day the team will try to forget as quickly as possible. Huigsloot also finished in the front group but everybody else lost time as just 43 riders could cope with the pace today. These youngsters are certainly learning. The hard way!

Yoo-suk is quite happy he's not there Shock
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

That was a bad day for us. Hope we can get a Top 10 in a sprint in one of the last stages. At least we showed ourselves in the break multiple times Wink

A quiet day for the boys. Good to see the breakaway streak continue, though. If you can't win at the finish, you have to get noticed otherwise!
