We like to think we have a small rivalry with Brazil, seeing as over 4 games they've never beaten us.
But it's mostly just Sweden and Denmark, I can't think of any other nation... well, perhaps Iceland, but that's not really a rivalry,it's just because we're semi-neighbours. We haven't played Finland in ages so there's not much there.
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

Now hoping for England to get in the play offs too and draw Portugal. Couldn't pick a winner as they are both shite.
The UEFA would never let that happen. They are too scared to lose either Rooney or Ronaldo at the WC. So both would be seeded teams and will have to face the likes of Iceland or Romania.
If that will be the case, then it will not be UEFA's fault, because the seeded teams will be decided by FIFA (or more precisely, the FIFA World Ranking of October).
Based on the September ranking, the following teams will be seeded & non-seeded:
Seeded:
Croatia
Portugal
Greece/Bosnia
Sweden
Non-Seeded:
France
Ukraine
Iceland/Slovenia
Romania/Turkey/Hungary
If England blows it and Ukraine wins the groupe, then England will be seeded and Sweden will not.
If Ukraine win as they should against San Marine and we (Sweden) loses against Germany Ukraine will pass us and get seeded. |

I love that you guys talk about your big rivalries with respected football countries.
Our rivals lately are Iraq. So yeah.

It's not like I care much about how France do, I don't owe them anything (nothing that I can think of, at least), and they don't owe me anything either.
So yeah, their ("our") rivals are big football nations, but there's nothing to be ashamed or proud of from a personal viewpoint, really.

Well the Dutch don't really consider any country 'rivals'. In the past there use to be a lot of hate against Germany. I think it was mainly caused by the older, post WW2, generations of Dutch people. Nowadays it's more the other way around as a lot of people likw their style of play the last couple of years.
Portugal is a real 'angstgegner' now for the Netherlands. Out of the last 7 encounters, the Dutch lost 6 (and 1 draw) IIRC. Italy is still mainly disliked by a lot of people.

Belgium are rivals of 'us' I think, but more of a friendly rivalry, and Germany are still considered rivals for 'us', to me.

I'd differentiate countries rivalries from sporting rivalries though.
Germany is both a football and historical opponent for France, but f.e. England only matches one of the criteria.
I guess it's the same (or the opposite, well...) with NL and Belgium, whereas if you consider NL & Germany, it's more like France & Germany. |

Yeah, I think Germany is both historical & football though, though it's getting a bit less than it used to be, as Willier mentioned.

I completely agree, but I didn't think a joking post about sporting rivalries was the place to break down notions of belonging within a state
Oh and they owe you results for the tax money that supports them

Biggest problem of England is not wind, but i say it again and again, it is constant overhype of their players and media pressure. They think they have the brightest stars in fotball, while they are average at most. Two best players on British Isles right now are both welshmen, that says it all.

Bento's logic: calls Bruma who's in the U21 squad, who has an important match today. And he doesn't make the starting 11 and we're going to play with... Varela. *sigh* |
