The good - no crashes, got to the end of the stage and Cunego has grabbed another few seconds on his rivals. Looking the strongest currently.
The bad - probably might have won the stage and grabbed a time bonus if we'd kept it close. Also, this probably means Cunego is not going to steal the KOM jersey too. |

What seemed like an appalling Tour is turning out to be a quite decent one. Two wins and Velits in the top-20.
And there's still a chance or two for Vanderbiest!

It's not over yet but I don't think Pluchkin can do anything about Cunego in the mountains. He distanced Madrazo earlier, so 2nd Place is still not completely out of range, though unlikely.
Hopefully he'll position himself reasonably that should be enough from here on. Also a stage win would be great. He has three from previous season and would love to seem take number four!

Perget seemed to be the designated attacker on that stage. It didnt get him very far though, not good enough to make the move.

Indeed, it annoys me, when i have 4 better possibilities in Keizer, Terciado, Pardilla and Grabovski.

Bloody lame, Cunego has stolen far too many seconds far too easily for Madrazo to win this tour.

Duret needs to get in a break...that lead is looking slim...

Very nice Tour so far. Cunego has yellow, meaning he positions himself perfectly in the peloton, I really can't see him loose his lead. Great move from Ardila though, nice to see those breakaways with strong climbers being rewarded. The battle for 4th - 9th in the overall standings should be an interesting one. Looking forward to the reports, SN, they've been great so far! |

Must be frustrating for Santander, losing time needlessly like that on a number of occasions. However, this race has been really exciting so far. I'd suspect that Cunego may hold on in the end.

was hoping Phinney would stay within a minute or two when he went down, rough day. Now just have to hope he's fine for the big day ahead, then can ride a strong final tt.

A bit dissapointed that Fothen doesn't try on a stage like this. He could have made it back into the top 20, even with a shot at top 15. Not the Tour I had hoped for, thats for sure.
Nice to see my former Rider Ardila doing so well, in his first chance to ride for himself in a major race for quite some time.

Another excellent breakaway effort from Calzati who clearly went very deep to try and stay with Velits and Ardila. Unfortunately he could quite hang on, though if he had I strongly doubt he could have won in the uphill finale.
It is surely too much to ask Calzati to go on the break again in the queen stage - if he does I guess he can make a belated move on the King of the Mountains jersey.
It was a strange stage which probably frustrated a lot of managers with just four in the break and certainly Ardila making a big GC move. He and Trofimov could hold on to top tens which would be an excellent performance from both riders.
I suppose the question on Alpe D'Huez is whether Madrazo can launch one last assault on Cunego?

Yes, definitely too much to ask

The Alpe d'Huez stage will be posted in 4 detailed sections - the first of which has just gone up now. Ill wait 20-30 minutes between each part, to hopefully generate some mid-stage anticipation and discussion!

Some very interesting names in the breakaway. Still my money is that someone that is in the pack at the moment will take it. Either Cunego or Madrazo.
As for Ardila I hope he can climb a little bit better than what he has done so far. A top 10 would be great here for him. And for the team as well - the only top 10 in a GT this year.

Very strong breakaway group.
Someone in the break could take this, I'm cheering for Gadret today

Oh man. Velits could go even higher in the GC if the break gets a good gap but if they are caught he could jump out of the Top-20.
It's all on the line in this stage. Potential (but unlikely) stage win, potential KoM jersey, potential better GC position versus potential overall disaster. Probably a good decision by Velits to go on the attack.
And half of my remaining team will have a hard time getting in under the time cut.

That was a very exciting start to the stage! Incredible strong breakaway, will be interesting to see how it unfolds. |

Interesting, Keizer finally in the break. Seems he chose the wrong day though .
