Boonen managed to hold onto Petacchi's wheel.
Unfortunately for him, Petacchi came 161th. |

That final turn with the cofidis crash was the key. Thats what really caused Cavendish to lose position.
EBH gets squeezed and almost crashes, which forces Cav wide, Duque crashed, and a gap emerges for the first 5/6/7 riders
Indeed it wasn't over for Cav until then when he ran out wide and lost momentum.
By the way it was Dumoulin who crashed
Yeh, he went into that turn pretty much side by side with Rojas
Cavendish blames Romain Feillu

Poor Eisel..he is not popular guy at the HTC..falling yesterday..step off early today.
Martin should left a little for mountains also.
Cav was still realy fast at the end.
Garmin have theyr best GT ever so far
Eisel was once a very good sprinter. But he became older, and he concentrates more on the cubblestone races now. what a fail, that HTC chose him for the tour. |

Only takes 20 minutes for Cavendish to blame someone for failure.
Good to see he is quick enough on that front.

Cavendish' words in short hand:
He chose to drop back from HTC, slotted in well, and went in to that last corner with Feillu on Left, Rojas on right, and Feillu forced his way onto Farrar's wheel and Cav had to take avoiding action.
He still actually managed to produce a very strong sprint in the end. His form is there.
The video does make it seem more like EBH caused Cav to move wide, but I think EBH might have been hindered by Feillu. That corner was certainly a squeeze to get on Farrar's wheel.

No luck at all for Sky today. Thomas done great lead-out but then on the corner Hagen and Swift lsot his wheel. Swift will prove himself though |

Well done Garmin. A deserved win for Farrar after great teamwork.

Odd call to abandon from Renshaw's wheel, maybe it was too far out for Renshaw to lead him out.
It is a missed opportunity for Cav but there are plenty of sprint's to come. Wednesday Cap Frehel and Thursday Chateauroux. And his form and attitude are there to fight for both stage wins and points for maillot verde.

HTC simply ran out of riders. Only Goss and Renshaw left for Cav with 2km to go, sticking with Renshaw wouldnt have worked - it did actually make more sense to drop back and find a better wheel, i.e. Farrar, but that corner arguablly cost Cav victory.

My prediction for today:
1. Farrar
2. Cavendish
3. Galimzyanov
4. Swift
5. Bozic
Quite happy with my prediction. 2/5 of the Top 5 riders, with Farrar on the right spot too. Galimzyanov was unfortunately blocked when Dumoulin crashed. Swift would have been up there if Sky's leadout hadn't splitted up.

Butting Cavendish and Farrar inside tour top 5 is not quite strong oracle stuff |

Even better for Farrar and (hopefully this year) Rojas.

Eisel is still a strong rider, he is also capitaine de route for HTC its those guys you need in a 3 week race.
HTC simply started to early 15-10k to go, the speed was already really high with several team formating at the front and HTC had to invest to much to stay up the front. |
