not all breaks are caught....

as evidenced by Steve Cummings winning this stage from the break in the Vuelta a Murcia.

The first attacks of the day are caught in most real life stages as well. Often it can take a very long time irl for the peloton to let a break get away! Personally I think the game is in a decent state atm, the only major issue I have is with "sticky" mountain climbing, where attacks aren't quite strong enough compared to the riders pulling the peloton along.

i have breakaways stay away all the time, the only thing i dont like about the game is trying to attack on mountain stage near impossible to get away from peleton, bout the time you spent all your energy attacking your like 1foot ahead of them which is annoying.

Have been playing a little over the last few days. No probs with breaks making it so far.

Attacks simply don't work though. You end up with your rider wasting all his energy to not get out of the peloton most of the time. Angry

the game is ruined by the mountian stages in the GC's....bunch finishes all the time. It's just a case of whether you can stay in the climbing pack rather than break away from it.

Don`t really have most of your problems. Like Fenian i have a good mix of bunch sprints and successful breakaways.
On mountainstages the results are also fine. I agree that the attack button is quite useless on a hard climb. But with the "dot" you can also "attack" by increasing the speed.
This works quite fine for me. Last mountainstage just A.Schleck, Menchov and my Hesjedal could follow my speed. Later Menchov attacked and had a small gap. I counterattacked and came in 2nd with s.t. than him. Schleck lost 29s, the next very small groups (1-10 riders) lost between 1min and 5min. Then the first bigger group came in. The biggest group with about 60 rider came in last wit habout 30min. So in my opinion the patch is doing fine.

It seems to me that you have to attack with a good climber if you want to get away on the mountain-stages...

I tried it with the best sprinter in the peloton. 77mo, next one was 72. Pace was done by 68.
I had no chance to get totally out of the field on 8-10% slopes. Not very realistic because this is exactly the part of the mountain I should have the biggest advantage.
So I had to go on 75% and the "dot" and came a bit out of the group and all weak riders had big problems to follow. then the group was just 10 riders instead of 50 before my speed.
Increased my rider on 80% and just 2 were able to follow. Out of these smaller groups you can attack.
But you can`t if there is a team doing pace, no matter how good their mountain stat is. They are just faster than you with 10-20 points less Wink

roturn...are you saying that the best way to attack on the big slopes is to go on the dot and break the field apart? if so then fine i will try next time i play. if not then let me know what the best attack strategy is for mountains...i'm finding it tough going.

Also, keep in mind that form is very important. It seems that Form affects performance much more in this year's version. Dean was able to draft and then pass Cavendish in a sprint during the Tour Down Under. I used a pre-season camp so Dean was probably at least 15 points better in form than Cav.

okay i've just finished a mountain stage in the tdf. i put my three good climbers on the first climb at 70%......burst open the peleton.....kept that going till final climb. my three climbers gave up and my two GC contenders took the stage win and second place......only schlek and menchov just 20 secs behind.

it works fab!

ps: form of all 9 riders is 90+.

What was your team

Abaut the method, it looks quite effective but keep in mind others might not be on top form yet and form seems to be really important in pcm10.

Yes. That was what I meant. You increase the speed without losing toovmuch energy. So weaker riders will lose contact. Even without good helpers it`s more usefull than attacking.

I think that works pretty well in the mountains - after all you don't want crazy attacks there all the time.

On hilly stages / classics I find it very frustrating you can't really attack / counter properly though.

I found a way to deal with the error of sprnters "braking" for no reason during the sprints.

When my sprinter had gone from a sure victory and had been passed by Bennatti, i followed him ( S->Wink, and immediately started sprinting again (S). I ended up accelerating and came back to win the stage Smile

Hope this helps!

Think this was just random luck, because there is a reason why they stop Wink

This bug is not because of random chosen riders and then they stop although they were the strongest. Than it would be really annoying.

The problem is that riders that normally should be 5th or 6th are sprinting too fast and so they are first. But a few meters to the line the game recognizes that this rider wasn`t supposed to be that fast and sets him back. It would be better if they are slower during the whole sprint and become 5th on a normal way, but this isn`t fixed with 1.0.4.1 and 1.0.4.2 is unplayable for other reasons. So the result of the 5th place is like it`s supposed to be.

That`s probably the reason why he accelerated again in your example. He was 1st although he was supposed to be 2nd or 3rd behind Bennati and so he stopped, let him pass and then accelerates again.
