Larry H. Millar Tour of Utah Stage 3 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Profile-2.jpg
The third stage will give the few sprinters in the startlist a chance to shine. Before we head back into the mountains for stage 4, and then the decisive ITT for the last stage.

A few riders try to make the breakaway work today, but the sprinters were having none of it ... So lets just get right down to the finish.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Sprint1.jpg
Phinney, wearing yellow, is being lead-out by his Livestrong teammates. While Larsson decides to get in on the action on the right side of the road.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Sprint2.jpg
But from the overhead view the sprint looks to be between Michael Reihs
(Left) Vs. Alex Candelario (Right). Larsson is trying to hang on to a top 10.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Finish-2.jpg
At the line Michael Reihs comes from behind to take the win. Sutherland comes in a surprising 5th. Phinney 7th. Larsson settles for 12th.

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: Can you give out any race tactics for tomorrow's stage?
A: Ahh ...well...The most I can give away is ... No, never mind I'm not giving anything away. You can wait and see ...

Update: Stage 4 and 5 have been played but I'm leaving for the weekend because it is a holiday (Memorial Day) in the USA. But I will be back to post the race reports, ironically, on Monday which is Memorial Day.

Spoiler:
Spoiler
The mountain stage 4 creates noticeable time gaps, and the 19 ITT in stage 5 closes all the time gaps for a great finish ... Sorry that's the most I can give away.

Larry H. Millar Tour of Utah Stage 4 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Profile-3.jpg
Martin and Deignan are heavy favorites along with Rory Sutherland. Larsson tries to keep the time gaps close because tomorrow's stage is made for him.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Breakaway-2.jpg
Ian MacGregor leads today's breakaway after going over the last KoM checkpoint on the road heading into summit to the finish.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Breakaway2-1.jpg
The peloton is working hard to close the gap.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/DeignanAttack-1.jpg
Right before the majority of the breakaway riders (Except MacGregor) are caught Deignan launches the first attack for EA-Sony, Sutherland counters.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/10kmtogo-1.jpg
MacGregor is now all alone up front with Sutherland and Deignan chasing, with a dwindling peloton with Larsson, Martin, and Phinney after them.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/5kmtogo-1.jpg
With 5km to go, it was now or never for Martin and Larsson, with Phinney struggling to stay in the peloton, Larsson's main focus was back on Sutherland. Alexander Boyd is the only climber left to counter the move.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Overview.jpg
With 2.5kms to go, MacGregor is struggling with the peddles after spending the whole day in the morning breakaway. Deignan lost contact with Sutherland but is joined by teammate Dan Martin. Larsson is left to ride for himself.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/MartinAttack-1.jpg
Martin takes a kilometer to regain energy behind Deignan, before trying to catch Sutherland for 2nd place. Ian MacGregor cross the finish line and takes a well deserved win, and now is even in the hunt for a great GC finish.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Sprint1-1.jpg
Martin reaches Sutherland 175 meters before the line, Sutherland can't believe his eyes. They rub shoulders as Sutherland is trying to match Martin's unexpected sprint.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Finish-3.jpg
At the line Martin beats Sutherland, Deignan comes in 4th, and Larsson 6th. But it is the man that cross 5th, Alexander Boyd, that will be wearing yellow for tomorrow's ITT.

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: Was it your decision to let Martin and Deignan go after the stage win rather than pulling you over the climb for a better time?
A: Yes, I wanted Dan and Philip to try and take a stage win home for their families because they don't get to many chances to win like they did today. Coming in as duel favorites I had to let them try. Plus its not like I'm a horrible climber, I can manage on my own.

Larry H. Millar Tour of Utah Stage 5 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Profile-4.jpg
The race against the clock stands between Larsson and his 3rd overall GC win this season. Being the clear favorite, Larsson should have no problem winning today's stage its the length of just 19kms that might hinder his chances.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/DeignanMartin.jpg
Sitting 7th and 8th in GC, Martin and Deignan take the road one after another right before Larsson is able to show his strength and will. Deignan comes in with a time of 26'05''. And Martin comes in with a time of 25'33''. And at the end of the day Martin holds on for 7th overall, as Deignan drops one spot to 9th.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/Larsson.jpg
Larsson supporting his Sweden ITT National Champ Jersey, doesn't disappoint setting the new time to beat at 23'21''. An amazing ride by Larsson, and as seen in the picture he even caught up to Taylor Phinney at the line who left before him in the start house.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/MacGregor.jpg
Next to cross the finish line was Ian MacGregor, who held a 12 second gap back to Larsson heading into today's stage. The scoreboard flashes overhead at 25'26''. Larsson moves into 3rd overall.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/LHM%20Tour%20of%20Utah/SutherlandBoyd.jpg
Next is Sutherland, with a 50 second gap to Larsson. His time ... 24'31''. 1'10'' slower than Larsson time. It now turns to a showdown between Alexander Boyd Vs. Gustav Erik Larsson. Boyd is charging hard and is very close to the finish when Sutherland crosses the line. Boyd needs to cross the line before 25'40'' to beat Larsson.

As the camera runs out of memory the picture of Boyd crossing the finish line is failed to be taken. But Larsson will certainly always remember the number that flashes onto the scoreboard when Boyd finished ...

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: Any comments on how the tour played out?
A: I wish today could have turned out better but overall for the team this wasn't a bad tour at all. 3 riders in the top 10, overall points win, great showings from both Dan and Philip in the mountains, and today's stage win. Many positives to take out of here as the team will stay on home turf, and head to Missouri for a crucial 5-day tour with a team goal lingering.

Pity that you couldn't win, but as you (or Larsson) said, a good tour for you anyways.

Update: It's exam time again, yea Rolling Eyes ... So next week will be my last dead period for a while. Because after exams are done schools out for summer. So I will be great back to daily reports for the first time in a long time. Which makes me happy because posting one report 1-2 weeks at a time is doing this story an injustice, and also for my followers. In conclusion:

No Reports Until July 13, After That Reports Are Back On Daily

Good luck, on those exams! How's your soccer career going? Pfft

btw, its very impressive that you've managed to keep going with this story for so long, with you being very busy and usually only having one update a week.
You might need a time-management app, or have you never found the time? Shock

Thanks, soccer starts up in 2 months and it will be my last year for the school team because I'm going to be a Senior. As for the the time-management of the story, it's a combination of not having time because of my job (Which is also now finish for the summer), playing on my PS3 too much (FIFA 11 and newly acquired NHL 11), and school. So I would have to say, It is a little bit of bad time-management on my part, and some weeks their just haven't been anytime. But the story must go on ... And hopefully I can put a wrap on Season 1 soon, because PCM11 is just around the corner.

Our Riders -

The hardest tour yet for EA-Sony with the sponsors expecting us to come out on top. So it's up to Lovkvist to achieve our third goal, and keep the sponsors happy as the year comes to a close.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/10kmtogo.jpg
With 10km to go, the morning breakaway has been caught, all expect one rider but he is pulled back 2kms later. Lovkvist survives today, and will watch the sprinters.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/1kmtogo.jpg
Peraud and Talansky team-up again for a shot at the stage win.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Sprint1.jpg
Talansky is actually keeping up to Peraud's back wheel for a change.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Sprint2.jpg
But the final sprint speed just isn't there yet for Talansky, but he's still young and that can be improved.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Finish.jpg
In a close sprint all over the road, Krzysztof Jezowski wins the 1st stage, followed by Charles Bradley Huff and Tomasz Smolen. Andrew Talansky takes 22nd, his best finish of the year so far.

Interview - Andrew Talansky
Q: First interview with you in a while, where do you see yourself in the next few years?
A: I still have 2 years on my contract with EA-Sony after this year and with the new sprinters coming in next year, I will have to preform now otherwise I will be out looking for a new team in a few years. Today was definitely a step in the right direction.

You only have 500 posts here? I thought you had way more.

btw I just noticed but Peraud has really low stats compared to real life.

I just put a lot of information in my posts, so it seems like I should have more than I do. I was surprised when I happen to glance over and see the 500 so I had to put it on the post. So for Peraud I debated giving him a stat increased when I started the story (a very long time ago), so I will see what PCM.Daily rates him in the 2011DB for PCM11 and may change it for next season. For now he makes a great lead-out man and if you can remember as far back as to the Circuit Sarth-Pays de la Loire where he won the tour on gutsy hill attacks.

Tour of Missouri Stage 2 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Profile-1.jpg
Last flat stage of the tour before we have the crucial ITT and finish up with 2 hilly stages. Lovkvist will just look to stay out of trouble, while Talansky is alone on the sprint because Peraud is saving energy to show his true talent, racing against the clock.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Breakaway.jpg
A large morning breakaway gets away, but today there is a surprising twist. Stage favorite and top sprinter in the field Ben Swift is taking part with 15 other desperate for a stage win on a long 200km+ stage.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Chase.jpg
They stick together well, and hold a 4'30'' gap at the halfway point.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/5kmtogo.jpg
But with 5km to go they are being pulled back one-by-one, Peraud is searching for a train, while Peraud and Lovkvist hang-out and chat at the back of the peloton waiting for tomorrow's stage.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/1kmtogo-1.jpg
... Ben King and Matthew Brammeier are lost in the confusion of bring riders back and are given 1-2 while the sprinters are nowhere to be seen behind them. King doesn't have any effect on the GC because he lost a bunch of time yesturday, but Brammeier on the other hand takes over as the new race leader.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Finish-1.jpg
Andrew Talansky takes 31st, and the peloton as a whole loses 1'03'' to King, but importantly 42 seconds to Brammeier. Plus added time bonuses.

Interview - Jean-Christophe Peraud
Q: Just a quick question for you, was it your decision not to lead-out Peraud or did it come from the manager?
A: I came into the team bus before the race and told the manager I wasn't going to help Talansky and we talked for a while, but in the end he agreed with me. So we will see tomorrow if it worked, because it should be me and Lovkvist as top favorites. Should be a friendly competition to see which one of us will take the stage.

Tour of Missouri Stage 3 Report

Peraud and Lovkvist come in as duel favorites but there are certainly other contenders like Scott Zwizanski, Sergej Fuchs, Guy East, or Christopher Baldwin.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/StartofDay.jpg
Douglas Arnold and Raphaël Delobel are the first riders out of the starting gate today being the last two in the GC. Both are given instructions to feel out the road and find potential hazards. Mostly because I was to lazy to get up in the morning to check the route before the stage.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/LovkvistPoint1.jpg
A long hour wait until Lovkvist finally gets his chance to ride. At the first checkpoint we couldn't believe our eyes ... Lovkvist didn't even break the top 5.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/LovkvistFinish.jpg
And at the finish I almost broke the stop watch in frustration as Lovkvist clocked in 8 seconds behind the currently fastest time by Sergej Fuchs. Are stage win hopes now turned into the hands of the Frenchmen, Peruad.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/PeraudPoint1.jpg
After Peraud heard about Lovkvist's performance he knew the pressure was now on him. And he stepped up at the first checkpoint, only 1 second behind Fuches leading time.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/PeraudFinish.jpg
And at the line it was Fuches who couldn't believe his eyes. Peraud takes over as the best time by 22 seconds. And heads back to the team bus for a well deserved snack. While heading back to the bus, I sadly have to inform Peraud his time had been beat by both Christopher Baldwin and eventual winner Guy East by just 6 seconds.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/Winner.jpg
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Tour%20of%20Missouri/GCWinner.jpg
East also takes over the GC lead with Peraud 6 seconds back in 3rd, and Lovkvist 37 seconds back in 12th.

Interview - Manager Mresuperstar
Q: Since we couldn't get the attention of any of the EA-Sony riders today, could you give your reaction to today's outcome?
A: Sorry about not getting a rider today. I told them not to talk with the media until I talked to everyone as a group first. The outcome today is not what we expect and frustration is running high right now with both Lovkvist and Peruad. That's also one reason why I didn't want them talking to the reporters right now. I hope they can take the angry out on tomorrow's stage and gain some of the time back, that they didn't get today. See'ya tomorrow.

Too bad that the result wasn't as good as you wanted. Can you make up the time in the upcoming stages?
And I have to agree with jt1109, it's really great that you still keep this story running! Smile

2 stages left, both classified as hilly but I would consider them to be more flat. So only time will tell.

It's ok Peraud should be able to drop them in the next stage and take the winWink

Good Luck
